This company is price gouging. While market price for residential propane is $2.5/gallon, they are charging me $3.60/gallon. We have geothermal so they dont come out often. They claim that the less I use and fewer trips they make the higher the cost per gallon. Other companies in the area do not operate like this.Suburban Propane, L.P.

Their prices are ridiculous. Just got a bill for a fill up. They are charging $4.82 per gallon plus a safety ***** fee, plus a transportation fee. I live in a resort and the resort is retailing the propane, from Suburban Propane, for $3.24 per gallon. That is in the small portable tanks. I was forced to deal with Suburban because they only allow certain companies. I addressed this issue with the office, saw the ridiculousness on my bill and advised me that I could change to Amerigas , who would charge me $2.03 per gallon. I also pay them almost $100.00 per year rental fee on the tank. It appears they like to prey on the elderly. When you call them they just blow you off. The difference in price is 2.5 times more from Suburban. Those extra fees are explained on the inner page of the bill. It states the extra fees aren't specifically authorized or imposed by any local, stator federal law. I have been buying propane for over 40 years and never dealt with such a RIPOFF.Suburban Propane, L.P.

AmeriGas will not take on business with a tank size less than 250 gallon. The average residential price for propane in ******* is over $5.00 per gallon. In Feb 2022 this account was set up with a initial fill rate of $4.29 and annual tank rental of $90.00. The rate has increase slightly the rental remains the same as when account was set up. Account is set up for 1 delivery per year causing the customer a large invoice one time per year. We could offer a budget payment plan to spread the amount over 10 months rather than one large invoice. We will make that offer to this customer.Review fromMichael W

If you have any other options, save yourself the frustration of dealing with Suburban Propane in *********, **. We've dealt with multiple back to back "no shows" despite being "scheduled" with no communication initiated by the company explaining why or offering to reschedule. It falls on you to pursue service at the cost of sarcastic replies on their behalf. Today was the final straw. Their delivery driver filled up the gas at my neighbors as I watched, with the expectation I'd be next. They departed w/o coming to my place. I immediately called and was told they just filled up my tank, which I assured them they did not; they were at my neighbors with an above ground tank and mine is buried. Instead of requesting the driver to turn around, they informed me they would try to get us filled the next day. No delivery, no communication. After calling them on the 3rd day, inquiring when our tank would be filled, we were told "You should be grateful we didn't charge you for filling the neighbors tank! You should be fine until next week."This was not a one off instance; dealing with this company has been a hassle since the original installation including multiple no shows for hook up after burying the tank. Showing up without materials to make connections, despite that they provided the estimate and scope of work ahead of time.Fortunately, I purchased the tank and won't have to deal with pick up fees as I transition my business to another company, starting tomorrow.Whereas, it's easy to see the average 1 out of 5 stars for reviews and think, only complainers leave reviews, but do yourself a favor and reach out to your local social media, friends and family, and see what their experience has been with their propane suppliers before selecting this one.Suburban Propane, L.P.

Bought a house where Suburban owned the tank. They tried to charge me for the propane that was in the tank, which I purchased when I bought the house. Then, after fighting that battle, they changed the charge to a fee for them fixing the broken tankthe tank they own. Oh, and the ladies on the phone are nastySuburban Propane, L.P.

We cancelled our service with Suburban Propane months ago and they said they would pick up the two tanks and give us a check for the propane that was left in them. We have since finished our home and starting with landscaping and having hydro seeding done. But since these two tanks are still in our yard, we are not able to complete the yard as well as our gardens. We have called several times but with their response we will get to it. They have no idea how much turmoil this has caused. Do not deal with Suburban Propane. **************** *****.Suburban Propane, L.P.

Predatory business practice against the elderly in the ****** ** area, claiming a contract existed after the company was purchased in the last several years, of agreement to automatic refills and charges. Problem is, they were told not to fill the propane tank, but then trespassed on my mothers property and did so any way, on a tank of propane barely used since my father passed away 4 years ago. Claiming almost $400 in charges which I will guarantee they cannot demonstrate or provide a valid pump readout for the **** gals of propane they claimed to have pumped into a 500lb tank, and then threatening to black ball my 90+ yr old mothers credit, when everything she has or needs is long since paid for. They bullied my elderly mother into sending a check, which since I have power of attorney, has been cancelled. Apparently this isn't the only occurrence of such an abuse.Suburban Propane, L.P.

Our local manager has spoken to ****************************** because **** was not at home and ***************** knew exactly what was going on with her account as we had already spoken to her and worked out the unexpected delivery we made in April 2023. Customer has a 120 Gallon Aboveground Leased tank that has had a deck built on top of it and will cause damage to her yard and flowers if removed. ********************* advised tank is hooked to a grill and two fireplaces only and all three appliances are shut off with no pilot light burning. We filled the tank on 04/06/2023, and had not filled it since February 2021. She paid for the delivery, although the check has been cancelled by her son as mentioned below but ***************** has no knowledge of this. We have scheduled a visit there to go out and shut the tank off with a *** lock and ensure it is safe at no charge, as per her request. We confirmed with ***************** she will not get another bill from us until ****** is billed in June 2024.
We find this matter to be resolved but are more than happy to discuss this with her son if he should reach out to us.Review fromDennis B.

We have a house my mother was living in. She passed away in December, 2021. We now spend about half our time there, but my wife has had frequent hospital stays The only gas appliance we have is a fireplace, which is only run sporadically to supplement our central heat system when we are there. In April of this year, we received a bill from Suburban Propane for $70.05. My wife was in the hospital at the time, so I paid the bill assuming it was a higher annual tank rental fee. When I received the actual tank rental bill in May, I called to see what the $70.05 bill was. I was told $60 of that is a non-use fee. $10.05 is a transportation fuel surcharge. When asked where this is documented, I was told the most recent notices were sent after I received the bill. I have no record of receiving any notices. I can not find an explanation reference to the charge in my online account information, nor in FAQs at the Suburban site, nor is it referenced in explained charges - there is a minimum monthly charge referred to for those under monthly contract. I was told if I purchased a minimum 20 gallons, the non-use charge would be credited. I went ahead and made the purchase, which means I probably wont need any more propane for another 12 months plus. If so, the charge could be billed again. I think the charge is unethical if not unlawful, and is being used as a coercion tactic to force purchases.Suburban Propane, L.P.

A Suburban representative did call and worked with me to find a solution to my complaint. He was very nice and professional. It involves some credits, change out of equipment, and a sharing of documentation of the non-usage fee. Once completed, it should address the issue going forward, and I will be a satisfied customer. As a matter of principle, I do not believe the non-usage fee is an ethical way to recover costs.Review fromPamela L

Suburban propane is over price charging! I called on May 31, 2023, and spoke to two sales people that day and both told me the price for propane was $3.95/gallon. Both told me the price was a competitive price with other propane companies. I informed them that I had called four other propane companies in the area and the highest propane price received from those companies was $2.59/gallon. One company gave me a price of $1.76/gallon. Also I was informed I don't own my tank but lease it, and was informed the only way I could NOT use Suburban is to remove their in ground tank which would cost me $1000 to remove the tank and $132 to disconnect and pick up the tank (total $1132). They will not let me buy the tank, or let another company give them a tank for their tank. With high inflation, price of gas and food, how is this acceptable that Suburban can price gouge and does not give me any options to take my business elsewhere unless I pay even more money! This is totally unacceptable!Suburban Propane, L.P.
