For the last three days, M & T Bank has reported me as a potential fraud and locked me out of my business and personal account, and each time, it has forced me to contact their fraud unit to prove I there is no fraud involved. This takes at least an hour of waiting and talking to various agents who then assure me it won't happen again but the next day, it does. And if this isn't bad enough, they REFUSE TO TELL ME WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM other than to say it is triggered by their fraud unit.
As I have a business to run, this is causing me excessive downtime, and I now plan to switch banks as M & T can not solve this problem, however, I must have access to my accounts before I can do so.Business Response

Mt bank did not help me in an issue and the staff were very rude to me to the point they judged me for having autism. The one lady told me to hush hush hush hush when I was trying to talk to her about a serious issue I was having. I recently reviewed my credit report and found an unauthorized inquiry from M&TINDCG&S, dated 8/2/2024. I did not authorize this inquiry, and I believe it is a result of identity theft. I have filed a complaint with ***************** and have enclosed a copy of the report for your reference.

We have a mortgage with M&T Bank for a COOP apartment we own in Brooklyn, NY. We have contracted for sale of this apartment with a scheduled closing date of 5-Sep-2024. As part of the closing process M&T Bank has to give mortgage payoff information and the COOP share certificate to the closing team. Our lawyer sent all the necessary information to M&T on 5-August-2024. M&T is utilizing *** *** ******* ** ***** ** ****** **** to handle the closing for them.
Our lawyer has tried to contact M&T's lawyer several times, and I have contacted M&T several times to understand if this minimal amount of work required by M&T will be completed in time for a 5-Sep closing. So far, we have gotten no useful response.
During my last contact with M&T yesterday (28-Aug) I was told a complaint had been opened on my behalf with their legal team, and that I would get a call back from their legal department soon. As of now I have not heard back from M&T, which is why I am contacting the Better Business Bureau, because I'm hoping M&T will not ignore a BBB complaint as they have my several complaints.
I closed on another apartment sale in 2023 with another bank. This bank was able to turn around all the close-out information for this transaction in one day, so I know this could be done easily by M&T in a month.
I fear if we need to delay our closing due to M&T's not completing their job in a reasonable amount of time we will lose the Buyer of our apartment. If this happens, I will be holding M&T responsible for the loss of $670,000. Thank you.Business Response

I just paid off an installment loan with M&T Bank. I called to obtain a printout of my payment history and the customer service rep said the bank only provides printout if it is needed in connection with a "full loss" claim. I asked to speak to supervisor and twenty minutes later I'm still on hold. I merely want a printout but cannot obtain one. I should not have to jump through these hurdles. My online account was immediately closed upon payoff and I cannot even access my account to obtain my loan number.Business Response

My mortgage insurance through Openly was not renewed on April 16th, 2024 for unknown reasons. My agent that worked with Openly was not longer in business and I never received notification that my insurance was not being renewed. It wasn't until M&T Bank notified me that I found out. I didn't receive notice from M&T until June 3rd. I immediately called M&T to see if this was true and what I could do. The rep said I had until June 16th to provide them with insurance coverage. I scrambled and obtain insurance as of June 14th. I thought I was in the clear until I got a notice that M&T not only purchased insurance on my behalf but somehow went back in time to start effective coverage (something is consumers can't do). Therefore there was a lapse of coverage for 2 months. M&T made it a point to purchase the most expensive policy they could find, enough coverage for a $5,000,000 (yes 5 million dollars) home knowing my home isn't even worth 400k. This comes out to $5,175 for 2 months of insurance coverage (that's 2x my mortgage). Once they updated the escrow, it was an increase of $477/month (nearly 50% increase to my mortgage. I called multiple times, spoke with a manager and filed a dispute with no luck. I asked why didn't they call or email me, they said they don't do that. I was lied to and this is obviously an attempt to take advantage of honest hard working Americans. This is my first single family house which I saved up for 5 years for, I'm a single father to 2 daughters with a single income and now in jeopardy of losing my home all because a lack of communication. M&T Bank has no code of ethics or principles and only looking to rip off consumers. I have paid all my payments in full and never filed a claim yet getting treating with no respect. I strongly urge everyone to never do business with M&T Bank and plan to take legal action.Business Response

Per customer rep, my checking account/debit card at M&T Bank was placed on hold so that I would call the bank to update my personal information. Why place my account on hold? Now, I have service fees from the bank and the companies my account automatically pays; who is paying this? I cant afford to pay extra for something that is not my fault & a default in the bank's way of handling updated personal information. The bank is also holding my pay that was supposed to be automatically deposited into my account. Is this legal? I need a resolution before I take legal action. Now I know why my card did not work at the grocery store. I thought it was just a system glitch because my other debit card went through right away. How embarrassing! I tried to transfer funds from my savings to checking because of the hold, my account now has a negative balance but the system stopped the transfer with a message 'We are temporarily unable to process your request... Try again later...' I tried for two hours online and on phone to tranfser funds. I even sent email messages within the online banking system. I need my pay released asap, I need all fees waived asap and this system needs to change to update personal information.Business Response
