Received first loan statement and setup online banking. My account was immediately locked and I have not been able to login to pay my loan. Called customer support number as instructed and have waited hours on hold with no response. Attempted to contact their Twitter help account and was told to provide my phone number to pay my loan and ignoring my actual issue of not being allowed to access my account. Not sure how they expect me to pay when nobody answers the phone and I get unrelated solutions from chat support which finally told me I need to call the customer service number to resolve login issues. This is after I have said I have been calling for hours and not receiving any answers.Business Response

I deposited my check on monday, as when I tried to deposit over the weekend it told me it would take 5 days to clear. When I went into the bank and deposited my check I was told it would clear in 24 to 48 hours just to keep checking my account. After 72 hours when it still wasn't there I called and spoke to a customer service agent who informed me oh oopsie poopsie they should have told you because you're a new member, they're going to hold your checks for 5 days and not let you have them. And I was like oh okay, so when will my check be available? I was told five days, so give me a moment, she put me on hold... then came back and said friday. Your funds will be available friday. Here it is friday, and the funds still aren't available.. I just got off the phone with M&T Bank about when my funds will be available, and I have been lied to again. Now I am being told well it was put on a 5-day float hold on Monday when you deposited it because we couldn't clear the check.. there was nothing about it being a new account... then she told me it should be available monday. When I asked doesn't your bank deposit checks on the weekend? Wouldn't it be there saturday? She said well yeah but that's not a weekday, so it's not guaranteed. I thanked her and told her I would be using another bank from now on. I don't really have anything else to say to these people except I want my money so I can go to another bank! I'm facing eviction, my husband was just in an auto accident, and this check is from my grandmother across the country to keep our rent a float while we go through the healing process, and this bank has made everything a million times worse. If I had just use Wells fargo, the money would be there by now.Business Response

At this point since the fraudulent behavior of this bank such as never removing payment when payment was made and trying to collect fraudulently on Lake fees and interest, I want my **** completely wipe clean, this bank at this point is ruining my credit, I’m tired of it and I won’t deal with anymore they know the situation that I am in and they’re making my life miserable I want the credit card debt wiped clean and I want the account canceled I will never do business with them again! I just wanna get rid of the headache I’m tired of them I try making payments they refuse to take it out they wanna make extra money off me and they’re not doing it, I will be filing other complaints such as the federal trade commission with fraudulent actions from this bank! I’ve also tried resolving this issue with corporate, they claimed that they were going to do an investigation and I never heard back from them. M&T Bank are unscrupulous creditors and violated my rights by electronically stealing money from account. My loan was sold to M&T Bank by United Wholesale Mortgage. While banking with United I authorized reoccurring payments from my checking account to pay my mortgage. I never transferred permission of automatic withdrawal from United to M&T. On 10/28/22, M&T sent me an email stating "We’ve mailed you a Welcome Kit with your new mortgage account number, along with a tear off coupon to include with your check to make your current payment", which I have not received to date. On 11/9/22, a total of $5,303.33 was automatically withdrawn from my checking account by M&T. My previous mortgage payments from United were almost $3,000 less than this amount. I am not in arrears nor delinquent on any payments for my home.
I spoke with a representative, on 9/9, from M&T and was informed that this would be my new monthly payment. I asked the United rep how M&T was able to go into my account and automatically withdraw money when I never signed consent and she told me the bank provided M&T documentation with my information for reoccurring payment. How can a bank transfer your personal financial information (banking account number) to another institution? How is consent transferred without the consumers input? I understand selling my account is well within their rights; however, it is not their right to give consent to withdrawn money from my personal bank account. Recurring automatic payments are governed by the Electronic Funds Transfer Act (EFTA). A company cannot force a consumer to agree to repeated monthly electronic payments from their account for an extension of credit. It is my intention to file a lawsuit under EFTA for damages due to the theft of my funds. This is an extremely seedy business practice, and I would like the assistance of the BBB to stop this from happening to other consumers. I would like an explanation of charges and the full amount of money refunded.Business Response

I had a Peoples account. In September M and T bank took over Peoples and I received mail about the changeover. I was told I should right away reschedule my scheduled payments (online).
I tried toschedule it but unfortunately the web site said error so for September I paid when my mortgage was due.
In October I tried again and was able to schedule the monthly payment. It was successful as October 8th my mortgage was paid (to another bank).
This month (November) I looked and the mortgage was again successfully paid. The next day I noticed that my balance had gone down and found out that my mortgage was again paid (2x in 2 days).
I called when the bank opened and the first woman I spoke to said that the money was paid already and there was nothing they could do. I asked how it happened and she was ignoring me. She said that she would open up a reference number and when I asked what that meant she did not or could not answer. I was asking to speak to someone higher up and she hung up on me.
I called back and filed a complaint. The second woman said that they have a problem with their computers and when in September I tried to set up the monthly payment the computer program must have set up a second payment. I asked why it would wait until November and there was no response. I asked if I would receive any correspondence about their error or my complaint about being hung up on and she said I might get a letter.
I did call my mortgage company and they agreed to use the 2nd payment as the december payment. I am short money this month so I asked if M and T bank could give me a month loan and they said no we do not do that....even if it was their error.
I am going tomorrow to close my account and complain in person.Business Response

I closed on a VA loan assumption with M&T Bank on October 11, 2022. I have run into multiple issues with M&T Bank both before and after closing. Most recently: 1. The loan number provided to me prior to closing is different than the loan number now referenced on a letter dated October 25 and addressed to me. The loan number referenced on the letter is the same loan number as that which belonged to the former/original borrower. 2. Because I was given the wrong loan number, my homeowner’s insurance declarations page references the wrong loan number in the additional interest information, potentially creating future issues with escrow payments and/or payments for insurance claim proceeds. 3. I can not register for online account access with EITHER loan number. I receive an error message either way that the information I entered does not match the information they have on file. 4. The aforementioned letter was mailed to the mailing address for the former/original borrower. I have never provided that address as my own mailing address. Because of that error, the letter was received by the former/original borrower first and did not get to me until November 3, after that person returned it to USPS. 5. The aforementioned letter indicates payment in the amount of $1498.89 is due November 1, 2022. My closing statement confirms I paid that same amount as part of my closing costs on October 11, 2022, and on the closing statement it is specifically indicated that the amount was for the November payment. I would like online account access and my payment applied to the account immediately.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.- I provided a copy of my homeowner’s declarations page to M&T Bank during closing. M&T Bank issued payment to Homesite Insurance in the amount of $1388.00 for my homeowners insurance premiums. There would be no way for M&T Bank to know the amount of payment and payee if they did not receive a declarations page. I vehemently reject any accusation of failing to meet the requirements to protect the property with hazard insurance. M&T Bank needs to review its own records to locate that information as I have provided it more than once. Shiyang ********* was the specific employee who received the most recent copy from me.
- Additionally I still am not able to register for online account access. Using the corrected loan number and entering my own Social Security number and date of birth, I receive an error message that the information I entered does not match the information they have on file. I did receive a corrected Closing Disclosure by mail but that addresses only one of the multiple facets of my complaint, and arguably the least important one. Regards, ***** *****

I have spent HOURS every day, all week on the phone with M&T staff trying to make a simple bank to bank transfer. Today I spent 2 hours on hold. After I was taken off hold, I was told my account would be unlocked and I would have no more issues. Immediately, I was logged out multiple times after logging in and trying transfer funds. This followed several other lies and a range of misinformation I've received from everyone I've spoken with.
I have reported M&T to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and will continue submitting complaints and negative reviews every single day until someone responds to me and solves my issue rather than incorrectly telling me it's fixed or passing me along to someone else.
Since M&T is unwilling to release my funds, tomorrow morning I will file complaints with the Better Business Bureau, Office of Comptroller of Currency and the FDIC Ombudsman. I'll then call the Buffalo Mayor's office and see if they can do anything about it. If that doesn't get you to escalate my ticket and solve this simple fucking issue, I'll call my fucking senator on Monday just for fun and spend the rest of the weekend finding ways to make you uncomfortable.
