Our car was brought into Continental Transmission on June 9, 2025 to evaluate warning lights on the dashboard that appeared to be transmission related. We asked for an estimate. They said they had to look at the transmission to get an estimate. We asked if there was a cost for that. They did not say there was a cost. The estimate came back at approximately $5700 total. We said that we were not going to do the repair. We asked if they have a salvage yard they work with to remove the car from their shop and they said no they don't and that they don't sell used cars. They tried to negotiate to a lower price and we said no we weren't interested in having it repaired at this point. We asked how to arrange to get our personal items including the license plates and have the car towed from the shop. We were told that they would box up the transmission because it was in pieces on the bench and put it in the back of the car. I asked if the car would be towable they said yes, we just owed them over $700. I said no, we asked for a free estimate and we asked if there was a cost and no cost was given. No repairs or work with charges were authorized. They agreed there was nothing signed at any point . We did not come to an agreement and ended the call. I called that afternoon and left a message saying I had a tow truck who can get the car. They returned my call and left a message to call them before a tow truck is sent. I called and was told they will turn away any tow truck. i said i just really need the license plates and was told no I can't have them or the car will be impounded. The next day, now June 11th, they called to ask what the plan was. I reiterated that we were not repairing the vehicle, no repairs or any charges were ever authorized to be done, and I'd like my plates and to have my tow truck tow the car. They said it was still on the lift. I have not been given any information since then as to the status of the car and when I can get my personal possessions.Business Response

My transmission was slipping. I took it to Continental transmission. They quoted me $5100 for a full transmission rebuild. They indeed did not do a full transmission rebuild. I’m still having the same problem that I have when I took it to them. They have service this vehicle three times and still cannot figure out what’s wrong with it, it was an engine misfire have the engine misfire fixed, and the vehicle still continues to do the same problem. It’s ******* and shifting hard at a low speed gear. I also paid them $900 to fix my window. My door panel is now falling off my door because they didn’t put the clips back on properly or use broken clips. I’ve contacted Andy and Paul at Continental transmission several times and they keep giving me the runaround.Business Response

In March 24, 2025, I brought my **** ***** ******** ******* to Continental Transmission for a full transmission rebuild. I paid approximately $3,000 for the service. The shop committed to fully repairing the transmission and honoring a warranty should any issues persist.
Immediately after the service, my vehicle continued to show the same symptoms: clunking when shifting, delayed engagement when accelerating, jerking between drive, reverse, and park. I returned many times under my warranty service, but the shop repeatedly dismissed my concerns, attributing the issues to unrelated causes which I paid out of pocket to have inspected and repaired elsewhere. A month later, I brought the vehicle to a certified **** dealership, who confirmed that the transmission issues were never properly resolved. I informed the shop and they agreed to take another look. However, they performed additional work, replacing the oil filter housing and sensor, without my consent or disclosing the costs or risks. Upon picking up my car, the original issues remained unresolved. The car now drives worse than before with the unresolved transmission issue causing further damage. When I raised these concerns, the owner became verbally aggressive and referred to me as a “spoiled brat who didn’t say thank you.” Despite the mechanical issues, documented warranty, and increasing damage, the shop is now refusing to provide further service and fix the damage, violating both their own stated warranty and consumer protection laws. I am now left with a vehicle in worse condition, substantial financial loss, and immense emotional stress. I am requesting a full refund for the incomplete and damaging service. I have detailed evidence including videos, email between the owner and I, certified mechanic reports, and communications clearly showing their acknowledgment of the issue and failure to repair it. To date, they also refused to provide an itemized receipt for the original repair done, despite requests.Business Response

We did a transmission repair for Ms. ***** on her 2018 ***** ********. Her transmission repair does come with a warranty however her transmission is working perfectly. The customer has brought her vehicle back several times for unrelated problems(wrong tires, oil pressure switch, oil leak & oil filter housing, oil pressure switch & rear differential), we did do a oil housing and oil pressure switch free of charge as customer courtesy. Ms. ***** is verbally abusive to employees when she comes in to the shop, last time she was in we needed to call police for assistance with her. I have over 27 years of experience in the same transmission shop as the President, I'm considered an transmission expert, her transmission is in perfect condition. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.
I would like to clarify several critical points and correct the misinformation provided. I never consented to the replacement of the oil filter housing. This was done without my approval and had nothing to do with the original issue of transmission failure, including gear slipping and jerking during drive. The oil filter housing was never the problem I brought the vehicle in for, and performing unauthorized repairs is a violation of consumer protection laws. The receipt they provided includes parts that do not belong in my specific make/model, such as a “pump.” When I repeatedly requested an itemized breakdown of the parts replaced during the transmission repair, they refused to provide it. This lack of transparency further raises concern about what was truly done to my vehicle. The shop refused to honor the stated warranty when I returned with unresolved transmission symptoms and further faulty oil filter housing. Instead of honoring the warranty, they handed me a handwritten threat banning me from the premises, a retaliatory act meant to silence further complaints. The shop’s claim that police were called because I was “verbally abusive” is a deflection. I made a formal police report myself after being served an illegal, handwritten ban that followed their refusal to provide proper documentation or honor my warranty. This complaint is not about unrelated issues, it is about a failure to resolve the original transmission issue, performing unauthorized repairs, and then retaliating against mewhen I asked for accountability. Their refusal to provide proof of the work, followed by intimidation, reflects a serious breach of ethical and professional standards. I ask that the BBB continue to review this matter seriously and help facilitate a resolution in line with consumer rights. I would like a refund of $3,000 to address poor workmanship, fraudulent billing, unauthorized repairs and warranty breach.

In response to the latest ********** complaint- 1) the oil filter housing was done at her insisting the transmission was leaking, but if you refer to the photos we sent It’s clearly the oil filter housing that she insisted we replace at no charge. In the last response I included the invoice for that. We road tested the vehicle with the customer and unable to duplicate any concerns she has as there are zero transmission issues. It shifts to factory specifications. There are no codes for the transmission. I’ve been a transmission expert and specialist since 1999 at the same facility. I’m certified transmission expert. There are zero concerns with her transmission. If there were, we would be more than happy to honor her warranty. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns. Thank you! I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.
Mr. ******** falsely claims the oil filter housing repair was done “at no charge” due to my insistence. In fact, this repair was performed after I returned the vehicle with concerns about ongoing transmission issues, the gear slipping, unusual rattling, jerking and delayed acceleration. He chose to perform the oil filter housing repair and presented it as a “courtesy” only after acknowledging a problem with the valve body (part of the transmission) which he did not include the part number on the receipt for that, only for the oil filter housing which I did not give consent to do as stated on the continental transmission receipt which states "declined" to fix, as I had warranty from another certified mechanic who had done the oil filter housing replacement initially. While Greg claims the vehicle “shifts to factory specifications” and that “there are zero concerns with the transmission,” this directly contradicts my lived experience and his responses continue to be a deflection, not a solution. Despite his claim that they would “be more than happy to honor the warranty,” Continental Transmission has: Banned me from the premises, Refused further communication through a written paper and email, and failed to provide a full itemized receipt or breakdown of the original transmission repair, despite multiple requests. That is not how a valid warranty is honored. If there were “zero concerns,” there would be no need to ban the customer, no ongoing mechanical symptoms, and no pending BBB complaints. Given the continued unresolved issues, poor workmanship, lack of transparency, and failure to properly honor the warranty, I am requesting a full refund of $3,000 paid for the transmission repair. The work performed has not resolved the original concerns and has arguably made the vehicle’s condition worse. If the owner does not want to provide a full refund, I will proceed to escalate this issue further legally with a lawyer at court.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond regarding my complaint against Continental Transmission. At this time, I am withholding further documentation and evidence until the business provides a full itemized breakdown of the original transmission repair, including: •A detailed list of all parts replaced with part numbers (as original receipt is very vague) •Labor descriptions of the work performed •Any diagnostic records, internal reports, or transmission rebuild details Despite my repeated requests, both in person and through email, this information has not been provided, which violates New York State repair shop regulations requiring transparency in invoicing. Once I receive this documentation, I will gladly submit the full supporting evidence from the accredited repair shop, and video proof showing the business’s failure to honor their warranty and refusal to address ongoing mechanical issues. Thank you for your time and for supporting fair and honest business practices.

I left my vehicle with this shop for transmission replacement o 1/23/25. I'll note that they have BBB Accredited sign on they're website and your site states they are not?
I paid for my repairs in excess of 3,000.00 three days later. The vehicle broke down several times following its return and had to be towed. The company refuses to contact me, field my calls or give me different excuses as to why it is not repaired. It has been nearly three months since the initial repair and I still do not have my vehicle. I have documentation of every conversation or my attempt to contact them. I have filed complaints with the local media with no results. I am begging for some assistance with the return of my vehicle in good working condition and a refund of the original fees I've already paid for my inconvenience. I have always been polite and respectful wherever I was fortunate to actually speak with someone. My last conversation was on 4/3 . When I asked if they even still had my vehicle I was hung up on and not a word since. Please help. I still haven't received the receipt from the original repair.Business Response

I have spoken with Paul from the shop several times. He is well aware that my car is not operational and has stated he wants to make it right. He is aware of the body damage to the vehicle and has offered to fix that as well. Although since these conversations I have not heard one word or have my calls been returned. Also, I have no idea of any warranty conditions/stipulations as I have zero paperwork regarding any repairs to my vehicle. Paul has stated that he is aware of my car being damaged while in there possession and recieved a copy of the collision estimate. Thank you, ******.Business Response

I have kept a well documented journal of phone calls and conversations. They did not reach out to me the last two day's. They only reached out after receiving a call from **** * ****** today at 153. I returned a call a few minutes later to greg who claims to be the owner. Paul and Steve have also claimed to be the owner? Greg stated he only knew of a mirror issue which is a complete lie. I have forwarded several documents and photos over the last few week's. I find it hard to believe that he's the owner and has no knowledge of this. I have zero documentation of any work completed and again asked for it during or conversation. Greg himself has had conversations with law enforcement regarding my vehicle and again for him to say he has no knowledge is a lie. They continue to refuse to send and documentation. BBB spoke to the business owner and the following was relayed: I'm sorry he believes that we did not call him, but I have screenshots of the text messages I sent after he did not answer my call. As a good faith effort of resolution, I paid to have his car towed back in here. I replaced his transmission at no additional cost. And I doubled the length of his warranty at no additional cost. His car has been ready for pick up since last Thursday. He can come pick it up anytime when he is back in town. Thank you.Customer Answer

Hello. Please be aware the statements from the company are completely fabricated. ******* * **** *** ****** has also been involved in this matter and has been trying ti mediate. The company picked up my vehicle with their own truck and not hired out. They were installing a new transmission as the previous one they installed is not working properly along with many other mechanical issues from the previous installation. Through **** * ****** and the company owner my vehicle would be done on Friday 5/16 and delivered on 5/17 to me. This was they're offering. I called mutiple times Friday to confirm and the car was not done. As of Monday 5/19 the car was done and scheduled for drop off on 5/20 @ 4pm per company owner. It is currently 4:30 on said day and no vehicle. The additional year warranty was a offer by the company as a good faith jesters as they have had my vehicle since 1/23/25. The over 6,000.00 collision damage to my car has still not been resolved.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. This is absolutely not true. As mediated through ******* * **** *** ****** the car was to be delivered on Saturday 5/17 @ noon. I spoke with Paul Friday evening and the car was not done. He would notify me between 10 -1030 if the was done and not a word was heard. I recieved a call Monday morning that it was done and scheduled it to be delivered at 4 pm Tuesday. Not between 4-5pm. I called the shop at 4:50 as my car was not here. They stated running behind but never notified me. I had engagements and was unable to wait any longer. Upon my return, my car was home. I will be driving the car shortly to verify it's operation.

Vehicle was brought into the business on February 3rd. We agreed on a price to fix the transmission which they said they discounted at $4,000. I paid the entire amount to the business. I was given my car back after being fixed on February 7th. I didn’t even drive 5 miles home and it wasn’t right and had to take it back. They originally fixed a chain and pulley system. Now they said there missed a cracked valve case. That turned into they had to order the part. Then they needed to program the car. They had to use an outside programmer who didn’t show up more than once. Then they didn’t have the software to program the car. Then the programmer said the part they put in was defective. Then they said the casing around the transmission needed to be replaced. They keep saying I will have my care back in a couple days. Then they said they fixed everything, reprogrammed and heard a noise and replaced the tire rod. Then they said a wire sensor was coming up. They were supposed to go through the wires and delayed several more days. Now they need to replace a wire harness. They’ve lied about when I will get my car, delayed fixing, kept me on hold on calls multiple times, and still have not fixed my car. I’ve had to rent a car and use ***** to get around which have cost nearly $500 in the past month. I still do not have my car and it’s been over a month now. I’ve had to cancel medical appointments, couldn’t take my kids to activities, and have had to delay other activities all because they cannot seem to fix my car. I just want my car fixed and back. They said this sometimes happens with cars that are anomalies. I find it hard to believe that a transmission shop/detailer in business 40 years doesn’t know how to fix this.Business Response

The issue we ran into was a parts sourcing issue, which the customer was made aware of and we continued to update throughout. It was a valve body issue which was on national backorder. Again, this is something the customer was advised of, and updated many times. We had put in a spat case, which puts us first on the list to receive when they did come available. That was the case, and we did receive the valve body at the beginning of this week. We installed and delivered it to her Monday morning. The repairs have a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty as per her repair order.Initial Complaint

The customer had us tow the vehicle in, and the complaint was that someone had poured sugar in her gas tank. We told her it would need a fuel pump, and we wouldn't know until if there was further damage until the fuel pump was installed. We told her we would need to clean the entire fuel system out, which we did. We provided her that estimate. Upon completion of that, we informed her that there was further damage to the engine. We require half down to start any work, and she made 3 payments to meet that requirement over several months delaying the repair. We recommended a used engine replacement. At that point I believe it was her father *****, who got involved. He came in on 9/27. Greg spoke to him. He finally authorized the work at 9/30 at 9:10am to start the engine work. What we did was, credited her any money she paid for the fuel pump ($1800 repair). We discounted her engine $1331.90. So the work was authorized on 9/30 and complete on 10/2. Said they were picking it up on 10/3. They said 10/4, 10/5, 10/7, and bringing some money on 10/9, and again 10/10. None of that has happened. To conclude, the customer left the vehicle here almost 1 year. Customer was given an $1800 repair at no charge, a $1300 discount on engine replacement and yet to pick it up and pay the balance (please refer to the text messages).Initial Complaint

I took my car to Continental Transmission on Hertal Ave in April of 2024 since April till current my car has had 3 rebuilds and two swaps in 5 months and is still having the same issue if not worse including causing me to go in reverse while it was in drive on the expressway with my child and backing into a truck. This occurred 1 hour after picking it up on Sept 20 2024 after having it towed back to their shop on the 18th of Sept due to the transmission going once again. During these months I have not been given any paperwork on what has been done nor proof of what has been done even after requesting it several times. They caused damage to my fly wheel which they repaired only after I expressed that was part of the transmission. They are now adding damage to my engine as each time the transmission goes they request that I drive it still off the highway knowing it is causing harm to the vehicle. I payed $3700.00 to have it repaired and 5 months later it’s had 3 rebuilds and two complete swaps and still is not repaired and no proof is being given. When I told them it went in reverse on the expressway way causing me to back into a truck while with my child all I was given was an apology and that these things happen sometimes. Since it was returned once more on Sept 26, 2024 it is still jumping and shifting gears hard and I asked once again for all the paperwork for everything done and still have been given none. I have no proof of the transmission in my car currently or where it came from or proof that it was acquired legally.Business Response

I first took my car to Continental on Hertel in February of 2024 for a transmission fluid change they alerted me that a code for the transmission was popping up stating it was stuck in 3rd gear. During the first fix I was told that the vehicle was not ready multiple times told they were waiting on parts etc. My spouse went to Continental and was told it wasn’t ready I called 10 minutes later and they said it was ready. As I pulled off the check engine light came on(the problem wasn’t fixed however I did not know that then) a mechanic came out and turned it off. In May of 2024 under my own warranty, I took my car to **** for tranny issues which turned out to be the same issue and was told the tranny could not be rebuilt but needed to be replaced because of the model of my truck. Unfortunately **** couldn’t perform the work under my warranty because continental had their own warranty on my transmission(that I did not want) and it would have to be returned to them. After paying **** 208 for a diagnosis out of pocket continental towed it to their shop. Continental has had my car for going on 5 weeks now. At first they told me they would replace the “bad gear” despite me telling them that **** said it cannot be rebuilt. They proceeded anyway and after replacing the “bad part” another code came up. So they again replaced the part causing the code and another code popped up at this point I had missed prom appts & work in which they told me it would be ready the next day. Several codes later and on week 4 they told me they would have to replace the entire thing(which I told them in the very beginning of the service but was told that I was wrong and dealers don’t like/don’t know how to rebuild transmissions). So after I was told it would be replaced and ready the next day of course it was not. Im now waiting on a torque converter. If its not fixed Im contacting a relative who’s a Senator for NYS this is ridiculous and isn’t ok. I’ve lost money my doctor dismissed me.Business Response

I've been waiting for over 11 months to receive my vehicle back, and all I get from Continental Transmission is that they are almost done with my vehicle for the past 11 months. The money I spent there, I could've bought me another vehicle waiting all this time. I spent a lot of money on **** to get back and forth to work everyday. I originally took my vehicle there to get my crank shaft fixed, and when they finished that job they told me that my head gaskets were blown when it was time to come pick my vehicle up to take home. I was always skeptical about that head gasket story, I know they were not blown. So they charge me to fix that also, I don't believe these people at Continental Transmission on Hertel. I really think they're price gauging and running a fraudulent scam on me to get more money out of me like they already did to me lying and overcharging me to fix my vehicle. This situation almost made me lose my job,Business Response

The repairs were not started on the car until we received half down. That took the customer several months. As soon as we received half down we started the repairs. Certain parts needed to be special ordered which the customer was aware of. Also, the heads had to go to a special head shop for resurfacing. We are currently re-assembling all the new part and have an expected completing date of 1/16.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.
Response taken by phone: I have spent over $4000 on rides to get to work and they expect more money out of me. I need my vehicle back.

I would like to say that I'm still not in my vehicle and $6,600 is already out of my pocket waiting almost a year for Continental Transmission to finish up. I don't understand why they want to over charge me so much money and keep my vehicle all this time just to finally start working on my truck now that(BBB)is envolved almost a year later like I don't have a life and job to get back and forth too everyday. All the special parts you guys are so called waiting on for my truck to finish the job is located at the (***)dealer 15 minutes away from you guys, and you kept telling me how you guys were waiting all this time for parts to arrive to complete the job on my truck. Well that was another lie, because I still don't have my vehicle. Hopefully BBB can get this problem resolved, I really think that they playing me with fraudulent moves to get extra money out of me. I'm being professional as I could be about this situation, they need to just give my truck back to me. I could've been took them to small claims court ten months ago for price gauging and lying to me about a 30.2 hour job that's taking over a year now to finish. If this ain't a scam for extra money, please help me out BBB.

It should be done by end of the week. The longest hold up was us waiting for him to get the funds together to put half down.
