After over 51 years as a member in good standing and spending average over $36,000.00 per year, I have experienced, after all these years, the changes in service offered to the card holder. In the past, Amex offered to back the card holder in legitimate disputes. My dispute, as reported to Amex in the first quarter of the year, against ATT&T which claimed that they could not collect ****************** monthly charges even they collected these charges over 2 years on the same card. **** then charged late fees & additional monies, due to a change in status (when they did not receive payment for 2 months). The amount in additional fees exceeded $150.00. After calling AMEX and relating this to Amex, I was told they would back me up, additionally, they agreed that **** had collected monthly fees for well over 1 year on the same card. As of now, AMEX has declined to back me up and has offered no resolution. To make matters worse, after leaving **** 2months ago and switching to Consumers Cellular, **** charged me $14.90 on the same card, which a I disputed and was told by AMEX that they claimed this was verified as owed by me. To sum up, I went to the ********** in my area who verified that I do not have an open account with them. Its sad, after so many years with AMEX, one has to downgrade their card from gold to green to not lose my points (over *******) and now use **** for most purchases.

I've called three times to close my mothers account after her death. I called early so her card would not be renewed but was charged for *******, amazon and American Expresses yearly fee. Both times was hideous, the first time this man breathed in my ear like a disgusting caller. The second was even worse, my mothers information wasn't enough she than wanted mine, but that still was not enough to get a payoff amount even though she had found the account and verified my name because she knew how to spell my legal name. Got a letter today, account is still not closed but I was informed to call them. Was on hold for over 20 minutes. Hung up. Guess I'll have to get my attorney involved if I more charges on a dead person account. I have now paid off the card twice. I feel sorry for the next person trying to close their deceased persons account. There reprehensives are not understanding at all, I had one ask me what her pin number was. Get it she's dead how do you ask.

I went on the ************** website to book a flight. There was a promotion from AMEX that claimed if I applied for the SKYMILES card and was approved my account would be credited for $ ******. I applied. I received the card. They are fighting me tooth and nail about the promotion. While I was fighting this I asked them not to report me to the credit bureaus. Well, they did. My credit score plummeted 150 points. I showed them proof of their promotion and they told me, somehow, I applied on the incorrect site. I got ***** involved but they did nothing. I want to sue them but no one will help. The promotion included the first year wherein they wouldn't charge the membership fee. As I pointed out to them that I already had an AMEX card and didn't need it but wanted the credit. And they didn't charge me the membership fee. So how come only PART of the promotion was honored. And to top it off they were as rude as can be. ***, I worked for AMEX for 2 years many years ago. We honored customers. Today they don't.

Do not apply for an American Express credit card. This company does not honor its promises and engages in what I believe is deceptive behavior. I have multiple complaints with American Express Platinum card services. Considering I paid $695.00 for an account, I am expecting superior services. This has not been my experience for the following issues. I mailed a payment by check for a balance over $27,000.00. I mailed it a week ahead of time. On the due date the check had not posted so to be sure the account was paid on time, I made an electronic transfer from my bank to pay the account. They posted the check the next day. I called to get the $27,000.00 + refunded back to me. I was told they had to wait until the check cleared. It took 5 days for them to be willing to issue a refund. I asked that the funds be electronically transferred back into my bank account. I was told because the amount was over $9,000.00 so they had to issue a check and mail it to me and to expect it to take 7-10 business days. At the same time they froze my account and said I was required to go through a financial review. They said all accounts had to do this and it was unrelated to anything else. They wanted me to verify my income, and I had to send them the two most recent bank statements from my bank. I complied and now after a week my account is usable. I am 70 years old and have had numerous credit cards over the years. Never have I had so much aggravation from a credit card company.

On April 18, 2025 an American Express employee or ring of employees altered a check written for a payment to AMEX for $500 was changed the amount $5,000. I was targeted for the crime as a senior citizen living on a social security and their barely English speaking AMEX implied that I can afford it. It's business as usual. After trying to he corrupt employees at American Express acknowledge that the money was taken and they begrudgingly offered to post a partial credit of $3,059 of the $4,500 that stolen after the AMEX employee illegally altered the check. As the co-conspirator customer service explained the money WOULD NOT be repaid and I should be grateful for a partial credit on my bill American Express crime organization is now targeting senior citizen white people as the new victims on the WOKE agenda.

I got the serve preloaded debit card as a gift, it had a balance of $100 on it. I kept it in the drawer for a while as an emergency fund. When I decided to use it a year later, I learned that my $100 balance was now $56, due to monthly inactive service fees. Despite never activating the card. I called customer service attempting to get my money back or get a satisfactory explanation. They wouldnt do anything to help. So I was immediately determined to get this money off the card, However, when I tried to use it on ****** or other retailers it was declined to to insufficient funds.

A system established only to achieve unfair profit. They are real scammers. I definitely do not recommend it. Dont your waste and time with Amex if you are not millionaire.
