I have had multiple issues with my credit card since I received in January 2025. **************** is a 0 out of ******************************************* concerns. Transferred multiple times, being told they don't have an answer, and being treated like I'm an interruption to their day. American Express Platinum needs to do better if they want a 'prestigous' rating. Bottom line, ordered my additional card on January 28th, it's April 11th and still get a new answer from each person I talk to. I was traveling and had problems, called to get help from American Express to rearrange things, I was on the phone over an hour and customer service was unable to move reservation and/or provide a solution. Is this card worth the annual fee?

As the spouse of a newly commissioned ************* officer, I reached out to American Express to ask a very specific question: If I upgrade to the Platinum card, will I be eligible for the military spouse fee waiver under SCRA or MLA? I made it absolutely clear to the representative that I could not afford the $695 annual fee. I told her I would only upgrade if I qualified for the military benefit. She assured me, multiple times, that I did. That assurance which turned out to be completely false has now cost me nearly $700 I cannot get back.Amex charged me the full annual fee right after the upgrade. Then, months later, they sent me a cold letter saying I didnt qualify. Why? Because I live in a residence that isnt considered community property something they had on record the entire time. They knew I didnt qualify before I even upgraded, but they never disclosed it. Not once.Over the course of several months, I made dozens of calls, wrote multiple letters, and explained the situation again and again and each time, I got the same response: Sorry, we cant refund the fee.Meanwhile, that $695 sat on my account like an anchor. I just received a notice saying my Platinum card will automatically renew, and Ill be charged another $695 next month. They dangle military benefits to lure you in.They misinform you or hide disqualifying info. They take your money before telling you the truth. What kind of financial institution preys on confusion around military benefits and then digs in when theyre caught?Im canceling this card and cutting all ties with Amex. But before I go, Im writing this so others dont get trapped the way I ****** every military family out there: be careful.Amex talks a big game about supporting our troops, but their actions at least in my case speak louder than any empty marketing slogan.

I have had American express for over 3 years now. I am a platinum card holder for the duration of the three years. Meaning that i pay a yearly fee of $695 just to own this card. You would assume that it comes with a lot of benefits and excellent customer service. That is what i thought, until i ran into an issue with them and their customer service team. This all started with a charge that i needed to make on the card for over $7000. My initial idea was to contact all my credit cards and see which one would offer me the lowest interest rate possible. When i contact one of the representatives at american express, he explains to me the pay over time feature. He then tells me that i can add that charge to the card and i can pay it off in time with a 0% interest rate. Telling to just make the charge on the account and then chose the pay over time option, at that 0% rate. Me not trusting this information, i decided to call back a week later and ask the same question to the representative, she also tells me the same information than the last gentleman that i spoke to. After gathering that information, i make the decision of charging the $7000 to the card, once the charge is posted and i go to choose the pay over time option , it gave me 3, 6 and 12 months at a 6% interest rate. I call to tell them that it has to be wrong due to their representatives telling me that it will be 0%. I ended up speaking to managers and supervisors, asking them to review the call, which they ended up doing. They called me days later saying i was correct, that they gave me the wrong information, but they could not do anything with the charge or the interest rate. Therefore i was stuck with the charge and paying a higher interest rate, just because of their mistake and the wrong information provided by their representatives. Horrendous way to treat a platinum card holder.

I just called into customer service on 3-26-25 and spoke to ***** asking if I could lower my monthly payment as Im in between jobs, he spoke to someone else about another program to help and came back and said my account was not eligible? Im confused as I have been an exemplary member for five plus years always paying before my due date, always paying more than whats due, never late on a payment. How ludicrous that they cannot help clients in need for the first time asking especially in todays struggles, extremely dissatisfied and disappointed in AMEX and cannot wait to pay them off and cancel!

Wish I read the reviews first! It was absolutely terrible. I used my card in ****** and the foreign transaction fees they charged were ridiculous. Apparently, only some cards have no foreign transaction fees. After escalating and escalating, they will not reimburse even $1! That makes me scared when theres a bigger problem and what AMEX will dosounds like theyll leave you high and dry. Buyer beware!

Beware of offers from American Express when purchasing tickets through ************** online when you open a new credit card. Was offered a $500 account credit to purchase an airline ticket 8 to 10 weeks after the purchase and ****** bonus miles. I took a screen shot of the offer and after months of back and forth between ************** and American Express, Amex determined I had opened the card under an offer after spending $2000 I would receive 4000 bonus miles. I have closed the account and am out $500. Buyer beware!

Worst company ever. I was their customer for 9 years. One day I saw an unrecognized charge on one of my 3 credit card accounts, submitted a dispute and after a few days they charged me back saying that I made the expense, which I didnt. I proceeded to cancel all 3 accounts including 2 I had an annual membership for. We will see who suffers more. Stay away from this company if you can as they will not investigate if you are a victim of fraud and will make you pay what others bought using stolen credit card info.
