Talkiatry has been noncooperative and unprofessional over the course of my two month's interaction with them. Every appointment I've scheduled through them has been canceled last-minute, for the invalid reason of not being able to approve my insurance plan. I've spoken on the phone with representatives countless times, and have submitted my insurance information to them directly. Every time I call to schedule, they approve me on the phone, and I get assurance that my appointment with a provider will not get canceled. My most recent cancellation was due to them not accepting my insurance at all, instead of the previous issue of "not being able to verify" it. When I called, I spoke to a representative named ***** who was dismissive and insufficiently explained the issue. Talkiatry's website lists my insurance plan as one they accept, yet ***** told me they wouldn't accept it; this was for an appointment scheduled over two week prior, and I when I scheduled the appointment the representative receive and accepted the insurance information I submitted. I'm glad they don't have my billing information because this business seems unorganized and shady. It's disappointing to be strung along for months as someone who is seeking a new provider for ongoing medication management.Initial Complaint

On June 21, 2023, I called a business known as "Talkiatry" for psychiatric services. I was connected to ************** office and ********** explained to me that he was not licensed to practice in ******** (********** is in *****). The call lasted about 2 minutes. There were no services rendered.I am now being charged almost $400 for "Office/facility visit" - $253.19 and "Additional supportive therapy" $131.78.This company is not due any money if they aren't licensed to care for me - for a less than two-minute call explaining they they cannot legally care for me.Customer Answer

I hade 1 appointment with a man in his pajama's! We spent 45minutes on a video call of him getting my information and history. Immediately, he wanted to change my meds to something he liked better, told me to stop taking what I've been taking for almost a decade. I ended up in the ** listening to his directions. I was treated like a junkie because I was in withdrawal from a depression medication!!! When I receive my bill and it was $333.06, after getting monies from my insurance!!! I called regarding the bill and was told "The video visit was 236 and another 96 for counseling" WHAT COUNSELING??? Your medical instructions almost killed me and you want another $96... FOR WHAT? I am filing a complaint here, with the *********************************** as well as the *** and any other legal entity I can!This is a morally corrupt and unethical business that needs to be kicked out of *****************. I went to Talkiary for help, and came out much worse, not only financially, but mentally. The doctors that work for Talkiary should have their medical license revoked for unethical practices!!!Initial Complaint

I saw this company back in June 2023. I input my insurance information and it came back with a $0 copay which is why I chose this company. A month later, I got a $200 bill. Now again I have gotten a bill for ****** and none of it is late fees according to the itemization on the bill. I was quoted $0 and then charged $200 and now almost 400$. I have told them that I never would have gone to them if they were not going to honor the amount originally told to me. They have no intention of doing so. I want the bill forgiven and original charge of $0 honored. Otherwise I never would have associated myself with this company.Customer Answer

My account number is ******. I was to receive service on 10/12/2023. I got on the call and she asked a couple of questions and then prescribed something. Then she stated I was to schedule my next appointment and maybe I would get Therapy. The call was about 12 minutes long and thats including the time I waited for her to get on. I was told the visit would be covered by my insurance but later I received a bill for $357.74. I let the company know about the service or lack of service and they thanked me for the feedback and said theyd do better. Even their ******** and Instagram ads that I kept seeing for months stated it was fully covered by insurance. I made sure to ask prior to doing anything as well.Business Response

Thanks for reaching out to us. The final cost of your visit depends on several factors. We recommend reaching out to your insurer to ask about your plan's coverage for outpatient mental health treatment. I went to the website and was required to do an online assessment to see if I qualified for their services. After the assessment it said I qualified then had me make an appointment to get the services it said I qualified for. Made my appointment for 6/29/2023. When the appointment arrived, I was first asked what illnesses Ive been diagnosed with. Once I answered, literally the entire ******************************************* I didnt qualify for any service through the company. They couldnt offer any therapy or give me medication. I then get billed for almost $400! When I call they tell me the first session is to see if I qualify for their services, but the website makes you do an online assessment to check if you qualify or it wont even let you make an appointment. They cannot tell me why the website deemed me qualified for services yet the doctor said I wasnt. Their services are a scam and they lied to me about being able to use their service on the website to be able to bill me unfairly almost $400 for no services rendered and literally only being told they cant service me.Business Response

Through our online assessment, we do our best to determine if Talkiatry is the right fit for your care. But the only way to determine a treatment plan is by talking with one of our psychiatrists during your session. These sessions are not a guarantee of treatment, but an opportunity for you and the psychiatrist to determine the best treatment approach for your needs. These sessions are billable, even if we decide we cannot meet your needs. If you would like to learn more, visit us at ************************************************************************;
If you believe that you were billed incorrectly, please reach out to your insurance plan.Initial Complaint

I signed up for talkiatry to get treated for mental health symptoms. I entered in my insurance information upon signing up, and it said I was covered. The website advertises how theyre covered by most insurance plans, and how most patients pay $30 or less per visit under insurance. There is no where on the website that discloses how any of their visits or services are priced. It states on the website that patients should contact their insurance company if they want an estimate of visit costs, even though theyre the ones naming the price. How will my insurance company know how much a third party will charge for a visit? Talkiatry does not offer a contracted rate for their services, according to my benefits coordinator, and they charge whatever they want. Under law, healthcare providers need to give patients an estimate of bill for services (Good Faith ********** I asked my psychiatrist during the visits how much they cost, and he said he did not know. It was not until almost two months after my first visit, when I got my insurance statement in the mail, until I found out how much it was and I was shocked. The first visit was $450 and the second was $275. My insurance plan has a deductible, so I knew I would be paying out of pocket, but I dont believe anyone would expect a singular one-hour video meeting to cost $450, and the follow up one-hour video meeting to cost $275. I called talkiatry and asked them to lower the charge and they declined. I believe that I have been taken advantage of and that the company intentionally hides their prices so that people like me get stuck with paying their outrageous bills after the fact. I also believe this company is using false advertising by stating all over their website how low their patients out of pocket costs are. $725 total for two one-hour video calls with a psychiatrist is absurd and I would like this to be resolved by them offering a reasonable deduction from their bill. Talkiatry is not acting in good faith.Business Response

Hello,
We've partnered with major insurers to make psychiatry more accessible, but a patient's final cost depends on their coverage. The best way to find out how much your care might cost is to contact your insurer and ask about your plans coverage for outpatient mental health treatment. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:My insurance company would not know how much each visit costs until they receive the bill from talkiatry. I have seen other poor reviews online from others who have similar complaints, and talkiatry seems to answer each one with this exact response. Talkiatry bills my insurance, and my insurance company bills me. The issue here, is that talkiatry is not transparent with their prices whatsoever. There is nothing listed on the website about pricing, except for the misleading statement the majority of our visits cost patients $30 or less. Talkiatry does not offer a contracted rate with my insurance company (even though theyre in-network), so there is no way for them to know how much will be billed until after. I will not accept this blanket response of reach out to your insurance provider for pricing because its 1) not possible and 2) just a way for Talkiatry to push off the fact that theyre hiding prices, and at the end of the day, charge whatever they want after the visit is over. By saying this, theyre just hoping to put the responsibility on another party, when it all boils down to how much TALKIATRY charges, not my insurance company. NO ONE HOUR VIDEO CALL IS WORTH $450!! If I had known the pricing before, I wouldnt have done it. The lack of pricing transparency and lack of professionalism in dealing with this issue is crazy to me. I feel that I have been taken advantage of, and will not be satisfied until Talkiatry begins to offer some sort of settlement or discount on this absurd bill that theyre charging me.

I started using Talkiatry with my first visit on June 9th, 2023, after confirming the provider was in network. The claim went to my insurance company and was denied as out of network. I paid $314.00 through my Humana Access Spending account with my employer for covered medical procedures and care. On July 6th I went to my second appointment with the same provider. This claim was paid in full (minus my required office visit copayment of $30.00) while the claim from June 9th remained denied due to being "out of network". My insurance company reprocessed the claim from June 9th, 2023, and I was then informed my copayment for that claim was $30.00 as well. Total my out-of-pocket cost was $60.00 but they still have my full payment of $341.00. On my talkiatry patient portal, it shows I have a credit of $311.00 (meaning they only used the funds for one copayment). My spending account from Humana has been demanding itemized bills as their portal setup is not sufficient to prove the services rendered. I have requested numerous times for the credit to be refunded to the card utilized, but each time the issue is never resolved. I have also requested itemized bills but have yet to receive anything besides a text message linking me to the portal which is not a valid document. My Humana Access spending account is suspended, preventing me from receiving care, as Talkiatry will not refund the overpayment back to them AS WELL will not provide proof of health services rendered. I see the responses given here from the company; the ONLY acceptable resolution is to refund the overpayment back to the card. Do not tell me to reach out as I have done so numerous times through chat, phone calls, and email with nothing being resolved. The images attached are not sufficient to provide to an HSA/FSA as a lead within the website. I need documents from both dates of service. My account number and information are within the provided documents supporting my credit refund request.Business Response

I am a patient of talkiatry and have been requesting to speak to someone in charge since the 22nd of November. I have yet to get someone. I am told by the people who answer the phone that they have no one in charge. I ask for a number to call and told there is none. I requested from my dr my medication to be sent to a new drug store and in a different mg dose since the dose a take is out of stock and they do not know when it will be in. It did not get sent correctly. I ask to speak to the dr and was told to contact her through the patient portal which I have done seven times. No reply. I even requested the 833 number contact her and am told each time of the seven times it will take 24/48 hours and still have not heard a thing. I have since requested a new dr and told it will take 10 or more business days to get one and in the mean time I have no medication. Who runs this place? Does it run itself? Why is there no one charge that can help with difficult moments? Why do they not care about your mental health?Customer Answer
