1 starPumpkin Pet insurance is the worst company I have ever dealt with and is a total scam. How they are still in business is mind blowing. With all these complaints I cant believe the BBB hasnt done something about this scam of a company. We paid $170 a month for months and when our lab had problems for the first time in his life, they pulled the same ole stuff with us they did with most other people it sounds like. Denied the claims and said it was Pre existing condition which is a total lie. Even our Vet told them there was nothing pre existing. Its absolutely numbing that a company like this continues to get away the basically criminal activity. We called and tried to sort things out multiple times until we had to cancel. Hope people read the reviews before wasting their time and money on these scam artistsReview fromJackie R

Its a bait and switch. If youre dog comes down with a chronic condition like cancer or pancreatitis, they will approve your claims for a few months (mostly those reaching the deductible), then theyll tell you its no longer covered and the prescriptions are maintenance even when a vet says theyre needed. If you want to fight their decision, apparently you will need to tell your vet the symptoms you see EVERY DAY. If not, theyll use this as a chance to say this is a preexisting condition. Save your money in an emergency account instead. DO NOT GETPumpkin Insurance Services

1 starPumpkin claimed my male dog's UTI was an incurable congenital abnormality and denied my claim. When I asked for an explanation for the denial, they gave me a list of things that can cause a female dog to be predisposed to getting UTIs. Once again, I have a male dog. On the bright side, they didn't try to stop me when I said I wanted to cancel my policy.Review fromPrashant U

1 starBe very careful in using Pumpkin insurance. My dog is a very healthy 2 year old pup. I had previously used Banfield and felt as though as I was moving I would switch plans to provide more flexibility. My dog had broken her nail and I took her to VCA for treatment. I placed my claim in March of 2023. 2 months later I receive a letter they are attempting to get my dog records from ********. I upload all the documents from the Banfield and they delay and finally deny the claim stating they have not received the documents from ******** they ask me to resubmit my claim.I do resubmit my claim and they give the run around about my vet documents needing to be submitted from Banfield. I again upload all the documents. Pumpkin lies about sending me a release of information for Banfield- I never received it but did contact ******** and asked them to send my records. I wait two more months radio silence. I reach out to them again and they say they have not received any documents.Im incredibly frustrated and angry. I cancelled my insurance with pumpkin. This was a small broken nail if this was something severe like cancer I'm sure they would have jerked me around for months more .Review fromEiden L

1 starI am writing against Pumpkin Pet Insurance regarding a highly concerning and unjust denial of my insurance claims. I believe that Pumpkin Pet Insurance has acted in an unreasonable and unfair manner in its handling of my case, which has caused me significant financial and emotional distress.I first enrolled my cat in pet insurance in 2020 when my beloved cat reached the age of 10. Unfortunately, in August 2023, my cat was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease. Despite this devastating diagnosis, Pumpkin Pet Insurance has refused to cover the necessary medical expenses, citing the condition as a pre-existing one. The primary issue I have with Pumpkin Pet Insurance's decision is the reliance on bloodwork from 2019 to establish a pre-existing condition. It is important to note that my veterinarian did not inform me of any kidney disease in 2019, nor did they recommend any treatment or dietary changes for my cat at that time. Consequently, I did not request or obtain the bloodwork records from 2019 because I trusted my veterinarian's expertise and believed my cat to be in good health. It was only after my cat's diagnosis in Aug 2023 that I became more knowledgeable about kidney disease in felines. Upon reviewing the bloodwork results from annual tests in 2020-May 2023, I have noticed that all kidney values fell within the normal range. I have not made any alterations to my cat's diet or administered any medications. Therefore, I find it implausible that my cat's kidney disease could have suddenly disappeared between 2020 and 2023, as Pumpkin Pet Insurance seems to suggest.I believe that their decision to label my cat's kidney disease as pre-existing is unfounded and unjust, given the lack of any prior diagnosis, treatment, or dietary changes. This denial has placed an undue financial burden on me during a time when my cat's health is of utmost concern.Review fromLaura D

1 starI just received a notification from Pumpkin regarding an appeal to a claim I submitted and they labeled my dog as having "consistent behaviors of aggression and anxiety." I filed an appeal for a claim that was denied because they decided it was a pre-existing condition. After the 4th of July on a night that I went out, my 7 year old German Shepherd was barking uncontrollably. My neighbor told me there were some large fireworks going off which probably brought on the anxiety, plus he started chewing on some things; for the first time he showed these signs of anxiety. The next day I called the Vet and he prescribed a medication that would calm the dog. Pumpkin originally denied the $57 medication claim because they called it as a pre-existing condition. They again requested all his records from the Vet, it was obvious they were phishing for an excuse to deny the claim. Even my Vet submitted a letter to Pumpkin. They claim that due to his records they found him to be aggressive and they have now labeled him that way.In the email by ***************************** she stated the following; "As a sign of good faith we are allowing ******'s firework phobia separate from his pre-existing anxiety and aggression at the vet. This claim has been reprocessed. Since ****** has displayed consistent behaviors of aggression and anxiety at the vet which began prior to the policy effective date, this condition will remain a pre-existing condition." I guess Pumpkin feels they are doing me a favor by paying the claim, when in fact it was a legitimate claim. How dare Pumpkin label my dog with behavior problems as stated by ***************************** who sent the email to me.My first strike against Pumpkin. Think twice before choosing Pumpkin.Review fromKayla S

5 starsI purchased pumpkin pet insurance for my puppy the day I picked her up. I have not once ever had a claim denied (I have had parts of claims denied because I included preventative meds, which I forgot to exclude). Last year I had an issue with a claim being processed on my new policy even though the claim took place under my previous policy. It was rectified immediately. My dog is an allergy dog and because she's a golden, she loves to eat all kinds of things she is not supposed to. Pumpkin has covered every single claim I have submitted with no issue.Review fromCollin H

1 starDo not use this company!!! The are overpriced and lied about my dog's pre-existing condition in order to deny my claim. He had ONE high liver enzyme test on 4/22 that was completely resolved in two months but they recently denied my 8/23 claim on the theory that high liver enzymes are "not curable" pre-existing conditions and thus the 180 days pre-existing conditions policy did not apply. If high liver enzymes are "not curable," why was did they go down and remain down and within normal limits? All the vet had me do was tweak his diet and he never had another high liver enzyme test since 4/22 (a year before I bought the policy). There's a reason this company is not BBB accredited.Review fromLaa O

1 starI wished I can give a zero star. Ripped off big time and I wished I knew better and I not took the advice from veterinarian office staff. Shes told me that Pumpkin Insurance was very good. But I just found out last night that its was a scam. I couldnt even get my reimbursement money back. Its a good thing thats I didnt really takes my pet to any animal doctor. Because my pet was healthy and active. And plus if I did I would be paying more and at the same time paying them monthly for nothing. And cant even claim it back. Now that I knew I just have to pay at the doctor ***** and not become any membership with Pumpkin Insurance. I repeats do not join Pumpkin insurance because you will be sorry like myself to not be able to get your reimbursed money back. The best is just dont be a membership and just pay the doctor the right way. Because its not like you have to take your pets to the doctors *****s so often. Its be only 1-2x a year and if you join. You know they wont give u the full refund probably only $8. When you supposed to get back $150. But since Pumpkin insurance are corrupt and if you want to call them. They are so hard to be reached. Because theres only one person work there I would think. Anyway I regret big time I hope others wont makes the same mistakes as I am.Review fromCat M

1 starDO NOT USE THEM! They WILL FIND A WAY FOR ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING TO BE A PREEXISTING CONDITION. Well after the waiting period ended, my cat started throwing up blood after taking a medication she had never taken before, and somehow that was a pre-existing condition. My dog got an ear infection well after the waiting period ended, and they blamed it on allergies (for which he had never been diagnosed). Stay away!
