This company did everything in their power not to help our puppy. Pumpkin care gave us excuse after excuse to not help us, starting with something as little as nit being able read the receipt that we submitted for Pongos claim. It took them one month to get back to us, and only to tell us that they could not read the receipt. So we scanned the receipt in again. Then they also claimed that they were not able to contact ***** to get his records. If pumpkin care couldnt even get something as simple as pet records from a company as large as Vetco, I cant imagine what they would do to actually be able to do to help us with anything in general. Then after a month and a half, we woke up to a denied claim. Our puppy (Pongo) had a bad yeast infection in his ear, and there was no determined root cause after the visit. He also had a bad skin rash on his back that was deemed a possible seasonal allergy, but it was too early for the vet to determine the root cause, and she said many times, no one ever truly knows the exact root cause of allergies to begin with. So this is all fine. We just wanted to receive our insurance compensation for Pongos ear infection to be covered, along with the visit, like pumpkin care claimed to cover. To make every even more questionable and difficult, our adjuster went ahead and took the liberty to deem Pongos bacterial ear infection as part of his allergies then even went as far as calling it a preexisting condition. Nowhere in the report does it say that he has any preexisting conditions; our puppy is not even a year old yet. But because he was given allergy medication for his skin, the Pumpkin Care adjuster went ahead and just made his/her own diagnosis by determining the root cause of our puppys bacterial ear infection, and immediately related it to Pongos allergies. Is this adjuster a licensed veterinarian that is allowed to determine health conditions; both pre-existing and new? If so, I would like to his license.

The people are polite, website is nice. However, with a dog who never had any health issues on initial checkup since a puppy, I was denied the 4 out of 5 claims I put in. My bills were surrounding preventative care such as vaccinations and I was aware I would foot the dental bill. But the only time I was reimbursed was the very initial one. Afterwards, all of my claims have never been approved. I realized that after some time, I was just giving money away for nothing. I figured it was better to just save the money I give to Pumpkin and save it for future vet bills instead which is what it exactly did. I have no trust in what would happen if there is a actually an expensive emergency that happens with a company that approves at such a low rate.

The wellness program is bogus. Simple get back a maximum of what you pay. In addition vets bundle annual labs. Pumpkin pays less for that instead of individually listed. I found them ignoring the marketing pitch and run to the difficult to find terms and conditions This is an insurance company that sells insurance which misrepresents the coverage. Of course they say it s in the policy. Which you get after you sign and pay

I have been a member of Pumpkin Care for since October 2021. Our curious cat got into trouble in August 2022 which, required surgery, and two day facility aftercare that was extremely costly. We filed our claim, submitted all vet records and notes, and waited. We didnt wait long - our claims were paid within two weeks direct deposit. Fast forward to last month, and our curious guy got into more trouble.again, we had a positive experience with our claim, and reimbursement. Our family will never be without pumpkin care for our pets - they really have saved ** additional stress during stressful times. I would highly recommend pumpkin care for you pets, and am surprised to see so many negative reviews. *****

I have had Pumpkin for the last 2 years. My vet has helped me fight for my claims but it was a hassle every time. None of the illnesses were pre-existing. More so I started with a $68 a month charge year one, year 2 the premium went up to $86 but now my renewal is $131! I have written several emails telling them that this is a ridiculous increase. They say its because costs have gone up and not on any claims that have been made. But when I inquired secretly and put in a different dogs name and info I was quoted $68. So it is a scam. They are just raising the cost because they think that they have me because of preexisting conditions. Nope they dont. And I wrote to their customer service a couple of times asking why the same dog breed and age etc with the same reimbursement rate and deductible can have a $68 monthly rate and that they are charging me $131 . No answer from them on that. Getting new insurance when my plan is up at the end of the month. There are many others to choose from

Perverse incentives with ************ to coerce people at times of desperation for their pets. When we started visiting a vet for our aging dog, ****** clinic was adamant that our dog was going to need procedures. We should sign up for Pumpkin. This insurance was pitched every time we went into the office. When we finally signed up, then felt confident about a procedure to make it happen, our vet then reveals that none of the procedures they prescribed were covered under Pumpkin.I'm unsure of the bonus / financial incentives for their vet partners, but the lack of transparency is a concern. Vets have an incentive to pitch the product to desperate pet owners who are uncertain about medical needs and vet bills. They should be transparent at what is being covered, and if Pumpkin truly is helpful.Pumpkin needs to be transparent at the programs / incentives they have set up with their vet networks. I paid an extra $300 of monthly premiums, on top of the unsubsidized vet bill as a result of this product placement.

I have for two months try to get a claim and they keep sending me emails about needing more medical records. I have talked to my veterinarian and the emergency room where I took my pet to make sure they have sent all the medical information and records and for some reason Pumpkin Insurance are still asking for my pets medical records. I have sent them the medical records myself via email and my pet's veterinarian has done the same. Do NOT sign up for Pumpkin Insurance, they will drag their feet on claims and keep asking for medical records when they have all that information available when you send them that.

The newer reviews with Pumpkin Pet Insurance are negative. I have had an issue with inflating/twisting pre existing conditions. I insured my GSD last year. She had no issues at 6 years old but, was getting older so thought I would purchase a first time pet insurance policy. Prior history noted she had a small lipoma on her chest that was benign, small and not serious. I did not remove ,they are common. She also had a piece of plaque from a back tooth that the tech apparently noted as dental disease. I was never told she had any dental problems. Now, bad news. At her next annual physical that was 5 1/2 months after I purchased the insurance and 1 year after her last physical, the vet informed me she had stage 2 dental disease and the lipoma had become swollen and tender around her ****** and needed to be removed. I sent Pumpkin an estimation of services for the dental cleaning ( dental disease) and lipoma removal. Pumpkin denied both claims due to the "plaque" removal that was deemed prior dental disease and pre existing. Pumpkin said I should have had her teeth cleaned at that time. I was never told by any vet that she needed her dental care prior to her most recent physical. The lipoma was determined to be my fault because I did not remove previously ( most people do not remove unless they become problematic) even though it should have been a covered illness through Pumpkin once it became infected, according to their policy. A lipoma is a simple fatty cyst that can be anywhere on their body and very common. Now, coverage for anything in the future can be deemed by Pumpkin to be pre existing; either related to dental disease that I knew nothing about until she was just diagnosed with it OR a previous lipoma ( so be careful). Pumpkin will look at EVERYTHING ( even inexperienced vet tech notes) to find a reason to deny a claim. The policy is NOT transparent. Even routine blood work can be misinterpreted if anything is "off". This is just wrong!

Thanks for your feedback, ******. Like most providers, we do not provide coverage for pre-existing conditions. This means that if something occurs, or was showing signs or symptoms prior to enrollment or during the waiting period, it would not be eligible for coverage. This includes conditions that are related to, secondary, or resultant from a pre-existing condition. Once a claim is filed, it is then processed by a Pumpkin claims team member, all of which have a veterinary medical background. Our claims team uses medical records and documentation provided by your veterinarian in order to determine coverage eligibility. If you need any further assistance, you can reach our care team by phone or chat during business hours, or email us anytime.
