Mutual of America does not deserve to have any customers in its retirement plan. They have eliminated all their field offices and local staff and now depend on you contacting their customer relations office by phone. When you do, they lie to you, promise you that they will deliver necessary material and then fail to do so. I ended up calling 3 times, spending almost 2 hours on the phone, and they did not deliver on their promises to send me necessary financial forms in a reasonable time for me to file a required application with a government housing agency. They need to add additional staff locally or improve their customer service and documents department by adding staff with training, as well as make sure that the staff is in actual contact with the division that actually sends out the forms and financial information. Instead they go and make promises for material that does not come and say that the documents department were too busy to send out the information requested in a timely fashion. Three weeks after my initial phone call. I am still waiting for the material to even be sent out.

Awful company with no customer service or support. They never call back and sent my death benefit to someone I dont know. I am sure I will be months before I see compensation. This is a horrible company. Do NOT invest with this terrible company. There should be laws preventing companies from ripping off its clients.

i requested my 403b closed and transferred to my checking account.. on November 26th the money was in the account and on the 27th the money was gone.. on November 30th i received an email that the withdrawal had been processed and it would take 3-5 days electronically which was how i requested it to be transferred. i sent a voided check and all the required paperwork. it is now December 11th and no money has been transferred to my account..this is very concerning and after reading all these reviews i think Mutual of America needs to be investigated by the comptroller or the agency overseeing these institutions.

The worst company to be invested with, period! We spent months trying to withdraw/rollover 401k funds to our financial advisor after employer closed and let everyone go. They came up with every kind of excuse not to release funds. We threatened with ERISA. They need to be investigated for their business practices. I would NEVER invest a dime with this company. Run around day after day.

If I could shout it from the rooftop, I would. Run from this company . I have had to deal with them on multiple occasions regarding withdrawals from my 403B and getting my pension payments. It has been at least **** occasions and not once has a transaction gone to my satisfaction. They lose forms, they do not take responsibility for their actions and have no regard for their customers needs or their customers. When you inquire about status you get a run around, are kept on hold indefinitely and transferred to no regard. They do not give you anyone who has any interest in helping you. I will be shortly removing all my money from them and I'm sure I will be given a run around at least a dozen times before it happens. I'm seriously considering legal action. They lie, cheat and steal. Run from this firm. I can't imagine anyone worse who isn't already behind bars.

This has been by far the worst financial institution I have worked with. On different occasions, this company received my request for withdrawal, closed my request without my knowledge because they needed more documentation. When I asked why was I not informed they said they didn't know why, their protocol is to contact the client. They advised me they have email issues as well. An automated email advises they will be in contact but they don't. Another occasion, they lost my requested for withdrawal, it took 2 months for a 2 week process. When I finally received my request, they deposited a little over $1 into my account. For a ********************** that deals with finances, they are very unprofessional and not well organized.

Horrible company when you leave employment and attempt several times to withdraw the small amount you have with them. Almost 16 weeks have been dealing with Mutual of America, filled out paperwork twice for withdrawal (closing) 403 B with them. Have called numerous times. Finally, received a letter stating what net will be after 20 percent is taken out for taxes, that I chose to deduct for IRS. Letter was mailed weeks ago, called again to Mutual of America, and they "claim" check was mailed same day letter was. I wish I could give them a negative star review. I have two former friends that left work at same employer, and it took 6 months for them to get their retirement from Mutual of America. Basically, they hold your money as long as possibly can, they draw interest off of hundreds of people daily, whose accounts should have been closed within 30 days of contacting them. It is a horrible company!!!!!!

Absolutely the worst 401K company I have dealt with. Withdrawal was requested months ago with no follow up on the part of the company. Finally told I couldn't do that on line so they would have to email me the forms. Which arrived two days later (slow email system?). Forms immediately sent back and again, no response. Finally called to make sure they got the emails I returned 3 days ago and they said they "just received them". (really slow receiving email too I guess). Told withdrawal would be electronically deposited in 3 to 5 days. Waited two weeks before calling again. They told me they could not electronic deposit so sent a check. (Might have been nice to let me know this earlier considering the re-checking of all personal information EVERY TIME YOU HAVE TO CALL!). Reading past reviews, this is apparently a big problem with the company. Good luck getting any satisfaction from this company.

The representative, ************************* was very helpful. She meets with all the employees who want to open a new account, or review, or make changes to their existing accounts on a monthly basis, at the organization where I work. I met with her recently because I needed to make changes to my allocations at the age of where I am now which is 54 versus where I was at in my 20's. This is my future and I think about it seriously however I am not knowledgeable about what I need to do to make the most out of my contributions. **** educated me on the areas I needed more information on. She took the time to help me make the changes I needed to do on the website. After meeting with her, I felt confident that I made the right changes and more informed about where I need to be now and how my retirement is looking.

This is the most difficult company I think I have ever had to deal with. I am simply trying to withdraw my own money from this company. Their phone system is impenetrable. You can never talk to the person you need to, i.e. the person actually empowered to help you. The person you talk to on the phone can only email them and have them call you. I tried to login to their website. I could not because I have an outdated email. I could not update my email becuase noone is empowered to do so. Finally, I got someone to help me. They not only sent me the wrong paperwork; they sent me the wrong address to send it to. Finally, someone said they could help me. They couldn't. They said that it would take them a month to send me the paperwork to file my claim. They said they would expedite it, but no - they cant because it isnt available. It isnt that the people are incompetent. The whole company is. No one can do anything becuase the rules wont allow them to. ************** should be fired. One star rating is too high.
