On November 22, 2022 I contracted with Radiant Solar to install solar panels on the roof of my home. Part of the agreement regarding the payment structure involves Radiant Solar providing me with 3 checks that in total would equal $3,564.36 and would be paid out at 3 seperate milestones during the project. At the completion of the primary milestone, the check was received by me and deposited on March 27, 2023. The second and third installation milestones were completed on May 1, 2023, but I have yet to receive the payments as promised. I have tried numerous times to call and speak to anyone at Radiant Solar, and if I do get someone on the phone they tell me someone will get back to me. As of July 7th, 2023, I still have not heard back from anyone regarding these payments.Business Response

Hello valued client, thank you for your feedback. Our records indicate your installation was funded on 12/12/2022. Your financing has a 3 month grace ******* so your solar payments did not begin until on or around 03/12/2023. The 2 checks you received already are covering you for 12 months, so there won't be any out of pocket payments due to be incurred by you until March of ****, and you will receive your 3rd installment check before March of ****. This is the same information we provided you in response to your inquiries.Initial Complaint

Hello valued client, thank you for your feedback. Our records indicate your system has been connected to the grid since 02/09/2022, so you have been receiving the benefits of solar for over a year now. Hello valued client, thanks for providing your feedback. The minimum array requirements you mentioned only pertain to newly constructed properties that are obtaining a new certificate of occupancy, which does not pertain to the installation site. As you also correctly stated, installing a 4kW system on your property would not be in compliance with the utility guidelines. The system was designed on your roof based on your prior 12 months of electricity usage data which was obtained directly from your utility bill. Hence, it is inaccurate for the utility company to claim that the system we installed on your roof will produce more than 110% of your electrical usage. We are currently in talks with the utility company to rectify the issue and have provided all the correct documentation that is relevant for your specific interconnection application. These are the updates we have provided you on multiple occasions. Because getting solar connected to the grid can sometimes be a lengthy process, we have provided you with a rebate to cover your first 6 months of financing payments, which began in February of this year. As such, you still have not made any out of pocket payments towards your solar system. We thank you for your patience and are working diligently to fix any delays in your service caused by the utility company.Customer Answer

I purchased my home in Feb. last year & made an appointment with Radiant Solar immediately because they seemed friendly, helpful, & local. I made sure to tell them my intent is to not have to pay for both an electricity bill AND a solar panel bill. They installed the panels in March, completing the process in April, & told me I was good to go. I made my first payment in June to ******** & looked for the next month's bill to start reflecting the change. It did not. I was told it may take a while to switch over. I got one program payment of $700 for the panels but still paying for BOTH the ********************* I called Radiant many times to fix the ceiling in my basement where they damaged it installing the panels. They never answered. I called BGE several times to ask why they were still charging me for electricity, they put in investigations but kept saying they were not aware of solar panels. In February this year, BGE withdrew over $700 from my account via my autopay, told me it was because my meter was not reading properly and that was what I actually owed. Then, after many questions, I was told that the electricity meter was never properly connected or read and needed to be replaced. I told them once again that I had solar panels and was finally connected to a manager who told me they had only JUST received the documentation for my panels two weeks prior and Radiant should never have installed panels before the meter was installed. I called Radiant to no avail. I called ******** to tell them I was paying for something that didn't even work and they assured their rep. would help. She said she spoke with someone at Radiant who told her they had given me an 18 month rebate for my trouble. I had no contact with Radiant since they finished the project and they intently prevented me from doing so. I called the number given by the rep. at ******** and the receptionist tells me I am unable to speak to anyone and she can not give me any information. Please help!Business Response

Hello valued client, thanks for providing your feedback. Our records indicate that your solar system has been connected to BGE since 03/22/2023. At the time of your initial consultation, it was explained that getting a solar system connected to the utility grid can sometimes be a lengthy process, and because of this we would be providing you with a rebate of $2,106 to cover your first 18 monthly financing payments. As such, you still have not made any out of pocket payments to ******** for your solar system. This is the information provided multiple times in response to your inquiries submitted to our office. It is inaccurate to say that our office has been unresponsive to your concerns or that you have been paying out of pocket for solar during this time.Initial Complaint

Hello valued client, thank you for your feedback. As you know from our numerous correspondences with you, your utility company ***** rejected your interconnection application because you transferred ownership of your property from your individual name to a corporation. As a result, the name on the deed no longer matches the name on your ***** account. ***** has a security policy that requires the name on the deed to match the name on the utility account to avoid potential fraud, and unfortunately we have no control over this policy. We tried submitting the property tax bill you provided but this was rejected by ***** as well for the same issue. They then requested a copy of the incorporation document listing you as the owner of the corporation listed on the deed, which you claimed you didn't have. Per your request, we sent you the contact information of ***** so you could speak with them directly about this issue. In the meantime, we have done our part to get your inspection passed and your system activated.Customer Answer

Hello valued client, thanks for sharing your feedback. We have responded to your inquiries as we've received them, and the problem here is the amount of electricity you are using. Upon checking your system's online monitoring, we see see that the panels are producing as they should. The electric bills you've sent us show that your electrical usage since installing solar has increased and now exceeds the amount the panels can produce. As a result, the utility company is now billing you for the difference not produced by solar. The amount of panels we installed was based on a detailed calculation using the annual usage data provided by the utility company at the time of your consultation. We recommend lowering your usage to previous levels to avoid receiving high electric bills going forward.Initial Complaint

Radiant Solar has installed my panels starting March 2022, and the installation finally "completed" in May 2022. The company that they subcontracted their work to came on and off between the two months which is why it took so long. I had friends who had gone solar with other companies and their installation often takes no longer than a few days. This is so unprofessional, it's beyond belief. After installation, they also left a lot of garbage behind like beer cans, broken solar panels, and whatever takeout boxes they were eating out of. Apparently, I am also working as their janitor for free. They also screwed the racks that hold up the solar panels to my roof (which is flat). My friends also told me this is the wrong way to do it, because flat roofs can be "hole-free" if they use some kind of special glue instead. Now, I know this company doesn't even have the basic knowledge to install my panels. Now I am always experiencing leaks that I didn't have before. After installation (finally), I expected them to activate my panels so I can finally enjoy some clean and cheap solar energy. Unfortunately, that is quite far from the truth. Up to the current date when I write this review (January 2023), my panels are still not activated. It's been eight months already, and I have already started making solar payments after installation. During this time, I am charged twice for the same kilowatt-hours I am using, one for solar and one from con ******* So much for the promise of solar replacing the kilowatt-hours I DON'T need to buy from con ******. Radiant solar did send me the incentive check which I am supposed to use for solar electricity. At this point, I am pretty much using that incentive check for the solar "payments" without solar electricity. The incentives are drying up and I am pretty much paying out of pocket for everything. They keep promising me that they will activate the panels next time, but too bad "next time" just never happens. Another issue is that after installing the panels, my con ********************* jumped rapidly. I actually had a $1000 electric for months. Whatever they added to my roof is actually draining electricity rather than producing them. My solar payments are $404, and as a single mother this is literally adding salt to my wounds. I understant that no company is perfect, but this is just plain demonic. When I reported these issues to radiant solar, their response was "their subcontractor ran away". My response was, "okay, please activate the panels or take them off my roof". Not only did they not help me, they reported my home to the department of buildings which stamped a "work stop order" AND a building violation on my home. The incentives are drying up, my solar payments and con ****** bills keep coming, and the department of building is going to penalize me. I really regret not going for a more responsible solar company. At least none of my friends who have gone solar have gone through such a predicament. If only I didn't think that "cheaper is better", all of this wouldn't have happened. I don't often write reviews, not to mention bad ones. Unfortunately this is the last straw.Business Response
Date: 04/03/2023
Hello valued client, thank you for your feedback. The stop work orders you mentioned in your complaint were actually due to your own work performed without a permit that predates any work associated with our solar installation. As a result of these stop work orders, we were unable to obtain an inspection for our work, through no fault of our own. We made numerous attempts to try and legally circumvent your stop work orders to obtain an inspection for our own work, which ultimately proved unsuccessful. During that process, your solar payments were covered by the welcome check rebate we provided you. Eventually, we both agreed that the best course of action was to remove the solar system from your roof, which was completed last Wednesday.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:why it did not resolve the issue:
They called me with a different agent many times. Each time, they asked me to pay them money that I do not owe for an installation that they withdrew. Every single phone call ends with them saying they understand and that they will make changes in my file and close the account, but then another agent of theirs calls me to pay a bill again! This is very unprofessional! My issue was not resolved and also they put a lien against my credit score. My credit score is tanking because of their unprofessionalism. They keep claiming that I owe $63,438.34 and went to a collection agency to collect money from me. This is robbery! If they install solar panels, then I will pay. However, they took back their solar panels and cancelled the installation AND DEMAND I PAY THEM???? THAT DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE AND I AM FURIOUS.

This company name radiant solar did installation of solar around the summer time. And they claimed that my solar would be up and running by beginning of September 2022. Now I am in end of December and almost to the beginning of new year where they still couldnt get my solar up and running. The in error that installed wasnt correctly installed or nonfunctioning where they need to replace one. This company is putting no effort or putting no urgency on fixing the issue. I am paying for the loan that the company applied for me for solar and for the electricity bill where they said it would been reduced. Hello valued client, thanks for sharing your feedback again. The issue with the inverter has again been resolved, as our records show you were set up with a online monitoring account for your inverter on 03/29/2023. We apologize for the initial technical difficulties caused by the manufacturer defect of the original inverter, but everything is running smoothly at this point.
