Hello my name is ****, I was preparing to have a new roof put on our 1000sqft home. The roofing company SunCo and lender ****** were the chosen companies to work with. We set up to have a roof put on by Sunco February 19. Well they never showed up on agreed date. I tried to get in touch with project manager with no luck. I was given an unworkable number through earlier email. I spoke with a member of Suncos support staff that week and canceled project do to them not showing and poor customer service. I was ensured that no further action was needed on my part. Then on February 21st I received an email from ****** the debit collection company wanting first payment for loan. I promptly called ****** and a representative informed me that they gave Sunco the $33,800 on January 3 for completion of work. I asked how they gave the money for a completed job when the scheduled date was until February 19th. I was told I would have to contact Suncos cancellation department. There is nothing they can do. I spoke with ******************* a member of Suncos cancellation department after two weeks of calling and bothering their support staff. ************* ensured me again that he is taking care of the problem. Meanwhile trying to sell me the roof for a lower price. He ensured me that he Ill take care of it before the weekend or to give him a call back on Monday. No response again.I called back on Monday and support team said Mr ******************* is busy talking to another person and will have to give you a call back later today Today is Tuesday Thank you for your time *************************Business Response

I would like this to be published to help stop your shell company from existing, stealing peoples hard earned money. This is the only response I have received from SunCo after months of fighting for my money. A response through the BBB. Not even a call back or email. I had to change my checking account number. I will fight to expose your thriving company.

Date of the Transaction: June/July 2021 Amount: $50,000.00 What the business committed to provide us: Lower electrical bill and a professional installation of solar panels nature of the dispute: The installations done incorrectly and is causing damage to our property and our neighbors property. If issue is not resolved in a timely manner, this can cause MOLD in both properties. Also, the electrical bill has not shown us any improvement since the solar panels were installed.SUNco has referred us to the manufacturer for a claim, the installation was done by SUNco and not the manufacturer. So, the business has NOT offered any type of resolution Account: the account is unknown, but they can pull the information with my telephone number and/or property address Advertising: They advertise this as a solution for high electrical bills and professional installation and neither one is TRUE.Business Response

We offer a 2-year workmanship warranty for the roof. The customer is outside of the ****** workmanship warranty. There is a 30-year manufacturer warranty on the roofing material. Since the customer is outside of the workmanship warranty, it would have to go through the manufacturer if they want to file it under a warranty. The installation is correct. We have passed inspections from the proper authorities to show its correct. From the photos the customer provided, the water is pooling. Our roof installation does not cause this. Its caused by the angle of the roof, which we did not change. The customer's ********************** is fully operational with no outstanding issues. We do not guarantee that the solar will cover the entire bill. We cannot control how much energy the customer is using. The ********************** panels are helping lower the customer's bill. The customer's electric bill would be significantly higher if he didnt have the solar.Initial Complaint

We recently decided to invest in solar panels for our home, aiming to reduce our carbon footprint and, ideally, our utility bills. After some research, we were swayed by Sunco Solar's promises of significant savings and government rebates that made their offer seem almost too good to refuse. Their sales team assured us that with these rebates, our monthly expenses would be dramatically reduced, quoting an appealing figure of around $200 a month. However, the reality of our experience has been starkly different and deeply disappointing. It was not made clear to us during the sales process that the "rebates" we were counting on are actually tax rebates, meaning that any financial return would be realized slowly over the course of 3-5 years, rather than the immediate savings we were led to expect. This misunderstanding has left us with a financial commitment of $500 a month, a figure far beyond what we were prepared for and what was initially discussed. Had we been properly informed about the nature and timeline of these rebates, we might have made a different decision. To add insult to injury, further research on our part has revealed that other solar providers, such as Tesla, offer similar systems at a substantially lower cost. This discovery has compounded our frustration, as it's clear we could have achieved our environmental and financial goals more effectively with another company. In summary, our experience with Sunco Solar has been one of misinformation and disappointment. We feel that we were not given all the necessary details to make an informed decision, particularly regarding the nature of the government rebates and the true cost of the system. To others considering solar, I strongly recommend doing thorough research and considering multiple providers to ensure that you are fully informed of all aspects of your investment.Business Response

We inform the customer that the incentives are tax incentives. It is stated on our contract that they are tax credits. Our price is very reasonable and competitive. In addition to the solar, we also redid this customers roof. All the necessary details are explained to the customer and clearly explained in the contract.Initial Complaint

I had one of Sunco's representatives (*************************) come and give me an estimate of what the costs were to install solar panels on my roof. I made it clear that I was still a new homeowner and have not received my electric bill so that I was still unsure of what my actual electric costs would be and that I was still meeting with other companies so that I could find the best deal. He assured me that Sunco would beat any deal and to get back to him once I spoke with the other companies. He proceeded to have me e-sign a document in order to check After I checked with other companies, I called ******** back to inquire as to why they had tried to give me such a large system so that I would be paying far more than any of their competitors. After several attempts of unsuccessfully trying to reach him, I called Sunco directly, who then informed me he would call me back. He was able to call me back and left a message as I was at work and unable to answer. I called him again but couldnt get in touch with him. Several month went by and I heard nothing from Sunco or ******** giving me the impression that either ******** was let go or that Sunco was no longer interested in setting anything up. I got an email several months later from ********************************* claiming that they wanted to sweeten the deal so that they could get me as a customer. We were never able to connect over the phone and I tried to set up a time for us to connect over the phone but again heard nothing back for another several months. Two months later I began receiving emails from Sunco and ConEdison regarding documents for installation of solar panels on my roof. I tried to call Sunco and email them letting them know that I had not approved of any of this. ***** then calls me sharing that the document that I had signed was not for the approval of my loan but rather an agreement with Sunco to install solar panels on my roof. Despite this, I have been sent to collections for $5,400.Business Response

The customer signed the contract. When the customer signs the contract, they have a ***** cancellation period where they can cancel without penalty. After the cancellation period, there are fees if the customer decides to cancel. Those are the fees associated with the cancellation. Sunco solar uses misleading information and fraudulent tactics to lure customers into entering a contract with them. I was promised tax credits, the hugely reduced electric bill, quality work, a new roof and competent customer service. The very first part of the agreement, replacing the roof, resulted in damage to my roof, leaks where there previously were none, subpar work and non-existent customer service. I was also told that the wires needing to be run through the house would hidden as they would be run through the wall. When the electrician arrived to run the wires, he told me that installing them through the wall was not possible and that an eyesore of an exposed conduit would need to be attached to the ceiling to connect to the electrical element. I asked several times to be shown what the exposed conduit would look like and never received a response nor did they repair the damage to my roof. I dont trust them to complete the work in a competent way as nothing that they said about the process has turned out to be true. I believe that they also fraudulently copied my initials to parts of the contract that I never signed as there were new parts of the contract that differed from the original contract that I received. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. I absolutely regret doing business with them and hope that there will be an opportunity to participate in a class action lawsuit to make them accountable to all of the customers that they lied to and took advantage of.Business Response

We have been trying to work with you to get our roofing crew to make the necessary fixes. The customer has refused our crew to do it. We are also looking into whether there are any alternatives for the conduit. We are covering the cost of sending a crew to evaluate this customer. We have a recorded welcome call that goes over the contract details. We didnt add new parts to the contract after the customer signed it.Initial Complaint

I HAD A ***** PERSON COME TO MY HOME TO GIVE WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A CONSULTATION FOR POSSABILY INSTALLING SOLAR PANELS ON MY ****. THE ***** REP ASKED FOR MY SOCIAL SUCURITY NUMBER TO SEE IF I PRE QULAIFIED FOR THE **** PANELS AND IF SO HOW MUCH MY BILL WOULD POSSIBLY BE. THE ***** REP SAID THAT I WOILD GET A FREE **** REPLACEMENT DUE TO DAMAGED BEEMS THAT WERE NEEDED TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION IN ORDER TO PUT ON THE SOLAR PANELS. I WOKE UP 2 WEEKS LATER TO SOME MEN REMOVING THE OLD SHINGLES ON *******. I COMPLAINED BECAUSE AS FAR AS I KNEW I NEVER SIGNED A CONTRACT TO HAVE TO HAVE THE INITIAL WORK DONE ONLY TO SEE IF I PRE QUALIFIED FOR THE SOLAR ******. THEY WERE REPLACING THE **** AND PUTTING THE SOLAR PANELS ON THE **** AT THE SAME TIME. I TRIED TO GET THEM TO STOP BUT THEY WOULDN'T. I CALLED THE COMPANY TO ADDRESS THIS MATTER AND STATED THAT I DIDN'T AUTHORIZE THE WORK TO BE DONE ONLY TO SEE IF I P REQUALIFIED AND WAS TOLD THAT THAT WAS A CONTRACT I SIGNED, AND I SOON AFTER RECEIVED AN EMAIL STATING THAT THE CONTRACT WAS CANCELLED. THEY WOULDN'T REMOVE THE SOLAR PANELS AND NOW THEY ARE BILLING ME FOR $78,000 FOR THE SOLAR PANELS WHICH AREN'T CONNECTED. I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN AND BY NO MEANS CAN AFFORD THIS AND WOULD HAVE NEVER AGREED TO A PROJECT THAT WOULD COST THIS AMOUNT AS I AM ON A FIXED INCOME. NOW SUNco SOLAR AND MOZAIC ARE SENDING ME BILLS FOR $78,000 FOR SOMETHING I DIDN'T AGREE TO HAVE INSTALLED, AND WILL PROBOBABLY HAVE TO TAKE THEM TO COURT FOR THIS. I WANT THEM TO REMOVE THE PANELS AS THEY ARE NOW MAKING ******* SINK BECAUSE MY BEEMS ARE NOT IN THE ***** CONDITITION TO SUPPORT THEM.Business Response

We have a copy of the contract the customer signed. There was a recorded call with the customer when we scheduled his roof work and solar installation. We went over the details of the roof and solar installations with him. The customer verified the dates of the installation on this call. He was fully aware of it. At this point, it is too late for the customer to cancel.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:When the sales rep came to my home he did explain what was going to happen if I decided to get the solar panels. The sales rep broke down every thing that was going to be done. He looked at my roof and told me that the roof is sinking and I told him that the beams were splitting and he said that they were going to replace the beams and redo the roof so it can support the panels if I decided to go with them. I video taped the sales rep while he was in my home explaining what they were going to do to the roof if I decided to sign the contract. He then asked for my social security number stating that he was going to see if I pre-qualified for the financing and give me an idea of roughly how much my monthly bill would be, which he stated was going to be about $160 a month. Keep in mind I video taped the conversation and my son was also on the phone while the sales rep was explaining the process. About 2 weeks later I woke up to noise on my roof and when I went outside to see what was going on I noticed that they were working on the roof. I asked what they were doing and they said they were replacing the roof and putting up the solar panels. I immediately called the company to complain because I didn't sign a contract. I also went into the artic to see what they were doing and I noticed that not only were they putting on the solar panels while replacing the roof but that they didn't even change the beams like the sales rep said they were going to do. While on the phone with the company they said they were cancelling the contact and I asked what contract? I didn't sign a contract I was only supposed to know the cost if I qualified for the financing. I received an emai stating that the contract was cancelled soon after. A week or so later I received a bill for $78,00 and a monthly bill for almost $600 a month.
I am a senior citizen and am on a fixed income and by no means can afford a monthly bill of $600 for anything. The whole reason for me inquiring about the solar panels was to reduce my bill not increase it by over $400. I feel that they took advantage of me and signed me up for something I absolutely didn't sign up for. I am prepared to go to court and fight this as I have all of the emails stating that the supposed contract was cancelled even tho this will be a big strain on me.
I want the solar panels removed and the bill cancelled as the contract was cancelled.

Roof was installed on 11/2/23 since then my roof has had leaking issues. A team was sent and claimed they fixed the issue. A few months later same issue in the same areas. Again in September 2023 same leaking issue in the same areas. In September 2023 they sent another set of worker to inspect and fixed. Which I was told by them it was an issue with installation of the solar panels however they had fixed it and I shouldn't have any more leaks. They even let the water run on the roof for 20 minutes. 3 months later, In January **** same issue again with the leaking in the same areas. Now I am being told there is nothing they can do because warranty was for 2 years. They are now claiming is a manufacturing issue with the materials. Called and spoke with a representative from OwenCorning roof warranty who told me based the the description I was given they can not accept my claim and that it sounded like a issue with the installation of the solar panels and not a defect of material used. Sunco has been giving me the run around. To date I have not been able to speak with someone who can assist me. Sunco is deceptive and unprofessional.Business Response

The roof was installed on 9/10/2021. It is outside of the roofing workmanship warranty. Per our conversation we will send our solar installation crew to check if the leaking is caused by the solar panels themselves. If it is caused by them we will fix the leak. Our team is aware of the leak and they are working on scheduling a visit. They will be in contact with you when an appointment becomes available.Initial Complaint

On June 28,2023 *** ***************** introduced himself as the Sales Manager of Sunco Solar project as installer of Solar and roof. Before we went any further I made it clear to him that I have no money for the new roof but if the solar will be the replacement of Con ****** electric, I will go for it, since we are all using electricity daily and Solar is known to save energy consumption. He persuaded me that the roof and the solar will be combined in one monthly bill. And the project will be funded by the Following: Federal- $17,550.00, $5,000 and the City$11,700.00.On the other hand a $15.00 connection fee is needed for the solar to be connected to Con ****** he quoted, so I was obliged to sign the contract $15.00 as monthly to be forwarded to Con ****** by ***********( *****) aside from the $58,500 contract for the whole project. Three days after before the project began I was diagnose with heart failure and I texted him that I can not go on with the project anymore. He then convince me that he will be on top of things, the assurance that he gave, made me decide to go forward. My last communication with him through text messaging was December 2, of this month now he is pointing to **************** to help me, customer service denying that they don't have any communication with their Sales Reps. and have no idea if their Sales Rep is "FRAUD'When I found out from Con ****** that they never receive the $15.00 that was being taken from my account, this raised a red flag to me. Around May of 2023, I met with a Sunco representative. I explained issues with the electricity bill and how high the fees were. He suggested the Solar. He said i can do a credit application and it would not be binding. He knew I wasn't prepared to follow through with the loan as I needed payoff directions from my previous solar company. He told me the credit application was only a preliminary step and I could change my mind about at any time. I got a notice from the credit company notifying me that I had a payment of $543 due in 30 days. I called the Sunco rep I was furious. He promised they would reimburse me the Sunco fee until the solar panels were installed. Within 30 days I had the solar installed. I then began to ask about the *** so that I can now payoff my previous solar as now have 3 bills for electricity. When the system went operational I received notices that some days the system was not functioning properly. I emailed Sunco for assistance as electricity bills for these months have been high. Of course no one will respond. I have sent numerous emails asking for a status of the *** for my solar, why is my electricity ******************* over 400 monthly. No one will respond or answer my questions. I have made numerous calls. I want answers, is the system running properly, when is the *** complete and when can I receive the payoff check to payoff the previous solar company.Business Response

Sunco said they would give me the money to pay off my current temporary solar loan which I agreed to. It is about $20,000. I have been told the PTO is complete as of February. I want the payoff amount that I am due to pay off my old solar company, I want a copy of my PTO and most importantly I want a human being who works here to call and give a status of update and when I can expect the check. We see that we agreed to a reimbursement for the customer. Usually, the reimbursements are sent after the customer reaches PTO. Because of the long process, this utility company has to grant PTO. We will review giving the customer the reimbursement earlier. We do not have PTO this is why we haven’t sent the reimbursement.

Why choose a BBB Accredited Business?BBB Business Profiles may not be reproduced for sales or promotional purposes.
BBB Business Profiles are provided solely to assist you in exercising your own best judgment. BBB asks third parties who publish complaints, reviews and/or responses on this website to affirm that the information provided is accurate. However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.
When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.
BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.
As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
