Rumpke has missed trash hauls due to weather, most recently with January 2025 snow storm. When this happens they say, "we will get your trash a day late", but usually never do until a full week later. When I report this they respond, "we will credit your bill instead". I paid $95.04 for the current quarter, which is 13 trash hauls. That comes to $7.31 per haul, but they only credited me $1.81. Neither one of us can control the weather, but somehow they think the consumer should bear the cost, so it requires a complaint from every customer to get compensated. I will accept resolution of this complaint when they credit me the full amount representing proration of 1/13th of $95.04. Shameful they don't do this of their own accord.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.I did not reply to BBB's 26 Jan email advisory because I have yet to see the credit for two weeks service offered to me on 20 Jan 25 at 1:22PM in a phone call from a woman at Rumpke which originated from 513-245-7901.
Further, it appears in your BBB file of my complaint they are not providing the requested credit as was shared with me in that call.
Here is timeline of events:
5 Jan - Received email from Rumpke stating that weather would preclude them from servicing my address as scheduled on 6 Jan service date, but would return a day later to service it then.
7 Jan - Rumpke never returned that day nor any day in balance of week to service recycling toter. I called and advised.
13 Jan - Rumpke credited me $1.81 after not having ever returned. I requested more to compensate for a missed week of service. They denied.
19 Jan - I filed complaint with BBB, text of which is below.
20 Jan @ 1:22PM - I received a call from a woman at Rumpke. She stated she would provide a one-time credit of a full missed service after I explained that this kind of thing has happened on multiple occasions for which I never called to complain, but just waited until the next week. I further explained that my trash again had not yet been picked up on the 20th as of time of the call. She agreed to credit me for 2 weeks of missed service as a one time credit.
26 Jan - BBB reaches out to inquire of my satisfaction with response. I did not reply as I was still awaiting the corrective action proposed by Rumpke and agreed to by me as a result of the 20 Jan phone call.
27 Jan - Rumpke finally picks up trash left behind on 20 Jan. Second missed pickup of month. Weather was not a factor.
4 Feb - BBB shows case as "This matter is now closed in BBB files, and will appear in the company's BBB Business Review as: "Answered - the business addressed the issues within the complaint, but the consumer remains dissatisfied." I replied to BBB via email that resolution as promised was in fact not provided.
6 Feb - BBB replies explaining that I misunderstood, but could re-file the complaint. My Rumpke account still does not show the additional credit offered to me as a result of the 20 Jan phone call from a woman at Rumpke.
As an alternative to my initial request, Rumpke can dismiss me as a customer, retain my current account balance, and retrieve their recycling container AT THEIR COST (i.e., no further charge to me). They may not retrieve any trash container as that is privately owned by me. I will instead obtain service from another source.

Rumpke bought out our previous trash hauler and we've had nothing but issues for the last month. Our trash has always been picked up on Friday. On the 10th it was not picked up. I called their office and was told to leave it out for Monday. Nobody picked it up on Monday. I called that afternoon and was told they are going to change our pickup to Wednesdays from now on. Leave the trash at the road and they will get it on Wednesday. Wednesday, no pickup. I called and had to leave a message to let them know it was still not picked up. Thursday morning I get a call from them assuring me it will be picked up that day. That afternoon it was not picked up. I called again and they said the roads were too bad (no snow emergency was in place) that they will definitely be out on Friday. Friday afternoon I called when it was still not picked up. At 3:30 I was told the driver was still out on the route and it would be picked up. They are now closed and the trash still sits at the end of my driveway. I'm paying for a service that is not being provided. They have supposedly given 2 weeks credit, but I would rather just have my trash picked up. I am tired of the lies/deception that they keep telling me. If they hadn't created a monopoly, I would happily use another company.Business Response

We have a weekly commercial garabage/cardboard pickup with Rumpke. More than 8 years we have been with them.
Rumpke has not picked us up now in 2 weeks, more frustrating than that is the fact I have called in a total of eight times, each time being told a work order has been issued and they will be picking us up. The past few days have been even more frustrating, there are a couple of employees that could care less what our issues is then you have some employees that really do care but are totally helpless to assist you (they even told me that)
Since we are a business and located right next to a beautiful golf course, we can't have garbage and cardboard sitting outside but now we have no where to put all the extra and have no choice but to put it outside.
Rumpke claims the recent bad weather from Jan 7 is why but two days of bad roads do not equate to 2 weeks of delays on our pickup and additionally your staff should not be telling us every single day that a truck will be out and knowing that is not going to happen.
This is one of the most frustrating dealings I have ever had and when it comes time to ask for a refund for the 2 weeks they did not pick up.. Good luck there, I went through that a few years ago with them and this company absolutely makes it very difficult to get any type of refund even when the customer is totally entitled to one.Business Response

Rumpke was unable to pick up trash on our street on 1/6/2025 due to snow.
The following week on 1/13/25 the trash on our street was also not picked up, despite clear roads and no snow.
I called 1/14/25 to inquire about trash services and was told that it was attempted to be picked up but could not due to weather. I explained to the customer service agent that there has been no snow and our road is right off the highway and has been completely clear since last week. I was told there was nothing they could do and our trash wouldn’t be picked up until the following week despite the overflowing trashcans on the entire street.Business Response

I just moved to this location on 12/30/24. I paid $100’s of dollars to be able to get my trash picked up. Rumpke did not pick up my trash and it was scheduled to also pick up a couch that is wrapped in plastic. I was told If the trash was not picked up today 1.8.25 to call and it would be escalated. I use Rumpke as my trash pickup company. I am pulling into my house on January 4th and notice a box blocking my driveway. Upon inspection, it was a box that I had put in the rumpke waste receptacle as it was a trash pickup day. I assume the box had fallen out as they were emptying my can into the trash truck. My trash is not being picked up. I have had an ongoing issue since 2023 when ************ ** contracted w ************ to pick up trash. Not only am I getting numerous warnings from code enforcement monthly I'm only getting 2 trash bags picked up. They will not step down onto the hill to pick anything up. Trash sits on my hill and accumulates. I cant get up the hill due to health issues I try to get help when I can. I have emailed in numerous dr notes that state I cannot carry garbage up the hill due to wrist damage and a permanently torn meniscus. Yet I'm being told they can't help me until I'm 65. I'm 54. Then I'm told I need to contact the city who tells me to contact Rumpke. I've had trash cans thrown everywhere. The bags are not over heavy when they are put by the hill. Last time someone came out I watched them take 2 of many trash bags that have been sitting there for a month. I'm tired of this. I'm disabled, I have the proof abd because of Rumpke not picking up I'm getting monthly code warnings. I should be worried about my health problems not monthly code enforcement letters. I need my trash picked up. I've already gone rounds w rude customer services reps who have lied to me! My age shouldn't matter when it comes to being disabled. The City of ************* **., partners with
Rumpke to provide its residents with weekly trash collection. As part of the
contract, Rumpke can take up to 10 35-gallon cans or bags each week. Large
items like furniture and appliances must be properly prepared for collection
and cost an additional $25 per item for collection and disposal. We recently
mailed all residents a reminder of these guidelines.
Our team has been in contact with the City as
well as *** *************** in regards to the excessive trash placed curbside.

For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.There is onky excessivetrash build up because these lazy garbage people are not taking all of the garbage and it keeps getting ripped open. The garbage has been accumulating for MONTHS! I AM DUSABLED and have sent in numerous dr notes trying to get help. When I get a helper it all goes up to the top of the hill where it just sits. They will not take a step down to pick up other garbage bags. When the city of ************ was in charge of garbage I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. I have recently spoken w Kelcey who is trying to help me. I've yet again sent in my dr notes showing I am disabled and I cannot work or get up that hill. This problem would be resolved w a carry out. I have many health issues including a permanent torn meniscus and non union fractures from numerous falls. The city says talk w Rumpke, Rumpke says talk to the city. This is has been going on since 2023. There is 0 reason for Rumpke not to help me. I NEVER had this issue in the state I moved from. But I've seen the reviews on Rumpke and I am not the only one dealing w poor service.

I’m beyond frustrated! About a year ago the previous garbage company my husband and I were with was bought out by Rumpke Waste & Recycling.. Since the day we’ve had them it’s been nothing but issues! Our trash is supposed to get picked up on Tuesday mornings. We’re proactive and put our trash cans out at the end of our driveway on Monday night! We’ve had an issue with our trash being missed for about the entire time we’ve been with Rumpke.. YES THEY CAN SEE THE CANS, and YES THE BILL IS PAID. We’ve had to call the day after our trash was suppose to be picked up just about every week.. FINALLY after months and months and months of this happening (I’m shocked we were so patient about it) I had a supervisor call me his name was Clifford (Cliff).. gave me this whole thing about how “we’ve had nothing but issues with this specific driver” “we tracked him on the tracker and he only picked up 9 stops in 10 hours” “we have a new driver on your route, if you have any issues call me directly”. After being told all of that, and that we got a new driver.. WE HAD 1 GOOD WEEK IN THE LAST MONTH WHERE I DIDNT HAVE TO CALL AND COMPLAIN! Guess what? Trash wasn’t picked up last Tuesday 12/24 or this Tuesday 12/31.. (no we were not delayed because of the holidays). Our heaping pile of garbage in our cans have been sitting at the end of our driveway since Monday night of this week. I’ve been told 4 times this week that “oh we disphached the driver it’ll be picked up today” each day I’ve called.. I spoke with ANOTHER supervisor today named April and was pretty much told I was lied to about them putting a “new driver” on my route and had no idea what I was talking about. Today was our final straw.. Rumpke Waste & Recycling DO BETTER! We shouldn’t have to call every week for a trash pick up on a service that’s scheduled and paid for! Absolutely ridiculous! From June of 2024 to December of 2024 . I had rented 4 dumpsters from Rumpke.when I first called was told my cost would be $776 an after 7 days would be $5 per day . The second dumpster I called for was $585 third was $585 that was delivered with tons of concrete in it . Driver stated it would no be a problem . Well it was sent me a bill for around $600 I had pictures a sent them in they credit me $113 a taxes . No credit for the dumpster space that was taking up by there concrete. 4th dumpster comes every thing is fine till they pick it up a send a bill for $1061. Although they stated they made an error it was actually $924 . I refuse to be scammed by any large or even small company . Rumpke can afford to do what they want . This boils down to misleading a renter of dumpsters . I had offered to pay $600 even though it was to much to clear there mess a deceptive up . That want me to pay the $600 today a send the bill of $924 to higher up to try and adjust this bogus bill . I refused to do that knowing they would still try a collect the rest of this bill . All in all I did the right thing by reporting this activity. I know it won’t make any difference but again I did the right thing….. Thanks ***** *******Business Response

Rumple keeps running at 2:00 in the morning waking up our whole rd. Those of us who have to get up at 5am are woken up at 2am and can not get back to sleep because these idiots run at 1 and 2 am in the morning!!!! They need to run at a normal work hr after 5am.Business Response
