1 star110% predatory credit card company. I've had issues with Comenity with an Academy Sports card AND now a Big Lots card. I have multiple credit cards and pay ALL of them off at the end of every billing cycle through autopay so I never accrue interest or get hit with a fee. If you sign up for autopay through your account on Comenity's site, you'll get confirmation of being enrolled in autopay BUT it will not automatically charge your card until 2-3 billing cycles later- just enough time for them to charge you an extra $30/mo per statement as a LATE FEE and attempt to capitalize on your incurred interest at the end of any applicable promotion they sold you on. Once you realize this and try to just pay the whole statement off, it's impossible to pay the full amount due at any given time through their website, making it harder to get away from their additional charges. I closed my Academy credit card after 2-3 months of having it because they pulled the autopay trick on me. I never should have chose to do business with them again. Once this Big Lots credit card account is closed, I'll have an eagle eye for their name being attached to any credit card I may get in the future.Review fromAlison M

1 starI used my Carters credit card and made a payment in FULL way before it was due. I received an email stating that my payment was processed a couple of days later. Fast forward to today and I receive a call from Comenity saying that my account is in delinquency and I had to pay the full amount plus 40+ dollars in late fees and interest. Turns out they never processed my payment (even though they emailed me saying they did) and failed to notify me. The person who called me was very rude and told me I could not get the late fees waived and that it was not their fault my payment wasnt received. Spoke with the supervisor and she waived the late fees but still charged me interest. I did everything right, yet still had to pay interest on a charge that should have been processed over a month ago. Not to mention what this will do to my credit score... 1/5 starts only because the supervisor waived the late fee.Review fromDorothy W

5 starsIm glad I read this, Im having the same issues with Comenity Bank/Woman Within failed to close my account out after paying it off. They gave me the pay off balance, I paid it but they never closed my account out. Its obvious why , so they can charge ip fake interest fees. I open an account online with Woman Within (09/2023) ordering some clothes, the total then with fees was $164; after the first two months of attempts to pay by phone with foreigners. I paid more than the minimum of $29; I told the foreign representative I was paying $100 for several payments. In December, 2023 to close my account and give me a pay off balance because they were showing my account past due even though I made a payment of $100. I finally got someone speaking English after numerous attempts, I paid the full given payoff amount and was promised the account would be closed financially on 02/05/2024. I stopped ordering after the initial orders and never used them; never received a card, etc but they kept charging interest, etc for an account that was closed but theyre ruining my credit based on their fake interest fees. On my credit report its showing a negative amount past due of $264 (interest fees only). Comenity Bank ignore my requests of proof of charges and payments. Ive placed disputes to Experian, ****, ***, FTC and state ***********************. Of course its a slow, delayed process.Review fromPamela A

1 starI would like to voice my complaint as I agree with all the complaints below. I have not even been able to get a hold of anyone at Comenity Bank and don't know if I'll ever be able to. The ****************** uses them for their credit card vendor. I purchased a pair of $73 pants there in October 2024, paying with the Comenity credit card. The payment was due towards the end of November. When I paid the bill by check on November 7, I noticed they charged me interest from when I purchased the pants. I wrote a check for the full amount on November 7 and wrote a note on the mailed statement with payment in full about this procedure on my statement asking them to close my account. In early December I received a bill for $139.41! I had already received my November statement from my bank and it showed that the payment hadn't gone through the bank until Nov. 26! I have an illegible carbon copy of the check but it turns out when the check was recorded it was done electronically so they must have shredded the check when it was paid electronically as my bank told me it had been submitted electronically, so there really is no longer a copy. I have tried many times to contact them to no avail. I feel this company is a fraud and reading the other reviews, many of its customers feel the same! I do plan to take this to a higher level and hopefully, someone can investigate Comenity Bank and these what seem to be illegal procedures! I, too, wouldn't even give this bank one star, but there is no selection for 0!Review fromGeorge Anne N

1 starThey are disputing a payment that has clearly been processed and cleared through by bank. They are requesting a written bank statement to show payment which I am not comfortable with. This is on my Talbots account.. seems suspicious to me!!!Review fromLori M

1 starI had three accounts with comenity Bank. One was the children's place. The other was Burlington and the last one was ********** Secret. This Bank makes it very difficult to close your account. I have been attempting to close at least two of these accounts for the last 2 months. I paid my cards down to zero balance but they make it very difficult to find out how to close your account. I even had a representative call me because they wanted payment, that's right, payment of fees incurred because my card was simply open. I asked her to close my account but she would not help me. She told me I need to call the number on my card and close it that way. Which makes no sense which also testifies to how they make it difficult to close your account. I should not have to go through another means when I had a representative on the phone. It's ridiculous. In short, although my accounts were paid down to zero, they still managed to charge me $2 for having the card and then another $6 for a late fee of the two dollars, and some other fees. So when I thought my account was zero balance every month I'm getting charged $31..75 and still cannot close my accounts. I have messaged them. I have called them and I still cannot close my accounts. This is their way of keeping their customers in the hook wether you like it or not.I HATE COMENITY! I have pretty decent credit but will NEVER EVER EVER do business with them again.!Review fromAnna B

1 starThis is a formal complaint about ***************'s underhanded Smile Generation Credit Card "promotion" practice of charging consumers on the "back-end" of their promotional period for ALL the interest that was "waived" during the "Promotional period". Their cust svc **** advised that they charge ALL "waived" interest on back-end of promotion if whole *** isn't pd in full at end of promotion. Their disclosure verbiage is unclear that ALL interest is back-chgd at end of promotion+the reg interest.. Had I understood the legalese, I would've transferred my $950 balance to another credit cards to avoid the $900.11+ money grab! Yes-that's right-my balance was $950. Then they charged additional $900.11 interest one Nov bill!I have good credit, credit cards, always pay on time. There is NO legitimate creditor I am aware of who practices *************** "back-end accumulation of ALL interest" highway robbery. What's the point of a "Promotion"? That's not a promotion, that's a scam. I was put into the Smile Generation system by my dentist's office when I had a necessary procedure due to gum disease (result of a health condition). I contacted dentist office, told them they lost me as a patient, cancelled my upcoming dental appt, because they pushed a scam credit card on me and other customers. I am reporting to ************************************ (****). I will also blast it all over social media and all other platforms that I can. I will tell everyone I know, every dentist I find that Smile Generation *************** is a sham credit card product that will unduly cause great financial burden to dental patients. I have an attorney who will also review all this.*************** has unfair lending practices! Also, their customer service center is poor service as employees have little information and no tools to assist customers.I wish I could leave ZERO stars.Review fromDorthea D

1 starIf I could give it no stars, I would. These employees have no clue about their banking policies, how to contact other employees, e g specific supervisors, etc. in their bank. They give out inaccurate information and do not return phone calls. They have kept my refund (a considerable amount) for over a month while various customer service agents keep telling me the check is in the mail . I will NEVER do business with them again!!!Review fromSzymon R

1 starThis bank is a fraud. They do store cards, so make sure if you sign up for any store card, that it isn't backed by Comenity. They are predatory lenders who set up their "promotional transactions" in a way that tries to get the client to make a mistake so that they can charge them the full interest rate. They charged me $250 interest on a $1200 purchase because their autopayment system doesn't work right (or maybe it works exactly as they want it to work.)I could have paid cash or used a cc and gotten points or miles, but instead I made the worst decision and bought with Comenity. And now I regret it.Don't be me.Review fromTayler F

1 starAbsolutely awful. If I could go back in time I never wouldve opened cards with them. The interest is insane so even making minimum payments gets you drowning quickly and although they act like if you keep in communication with them theyll work with you, thats completely false. They are rude and condescending unless you can make a full payment even if youve fallen on hard times. Absolutely DO NOT get a card through them.
