1 starMy 2011 Toyota Camry was stalling out when stopped and the check engine light was on, thus I took it to the Pep Boys location at 1001 Breckenridge Lane in Louisville, Kentucky (store 0336) on 5/22/23. After being charged $1,351.28 for a tune up package (spark plug replacement), throttle body injector, valve timing control installation, and cam position sensor installation, my car stalled out yet again on the way home, almost causing me to be t-boned by an oncoming car.
I returned the vehicle the next day only to have the manager tell me he would not diagnose it as the check engine light was no longer on and it was working properly.
I also take umbrage with the fact that the manager falsely stated on my invoice that I declined 1) a $109.07 Pepguard Limited Extended Labor Warranty, 2) a $139.35 Pepguard limited extended warrant, and 3) to provide an email address. These labor warranty options were never offered to me and I was never asked for my email address. When I asked Gregory, the location manager, if he felt it was deceptive to make these false statements on an invoice, he simply responded, "No, I do not".
I did speak with Tyler, the regional manager about these issues. He said that I must provide documentation that my car continued stalling out due to the issues Pep Boys charged me to correct for any concessions to be made on their end. Having missed two days of work, I no longer had any further time to invest in addressing these issues with Pep Boys and traded my Camry in as part of a purchase. When I mentioned to Tyler that Greg made patently false statements on my invoice, he responded that it was "unfortunate".
In short, I found Pep Boys was deceptive in business practices related to labor warranties being offered. Further, they do not stand by their service placing a burden of proof on the consumer.Review fromJason B

1 starI went to pep boys in Homewood, il June 25,2023. I was given a quote of $2291.58! I went in for service on my 2013 ford focus se a/c. I was told I needed a new a/c compressor, new a/c condenser, $436.80 to remove and replace new condenser, evac and recharge Freon, pepguard limited extended labor warranty and $249.60 to remove and replace a/c compressor. My wife and I declined the service b/c it just didn’t sit right with us. After doing a bit of research ourselves we realized it was nothing more than the a/c relay fuse. I high turned out to be a $17.00 part. It was painfully obvious that they never intended to do anything more than replace that relay and scan us out of over $2200.Review fromLisa M

1 starPep Boys in Rock Hill, SC should be closed. They have mechanics who install incorrect parts over and over. The manager, Mark, schedules appointments and when I arrived- no manager, no mechanic, and no replacement part. No one called to inform me I needed to reschedule. After taking my vehicle to Pep Boys I've had nothing but problems. The dealership now says it'll be at least $6000.00 to fix (fingers crossed).Review fromAurora J

1 starI recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Pep Boys, and I must say it was an absolute nightmare. From start to finish, everything about my visit to this auto service center was a disaster. I strongly advise against choosing Pep Boys for any of your automotive needs.
First and foremost, the customer service at Pep Boys was abysmal. The employees seemed disinterested and lacked basic knowledge about the products and services they offered. When I asked for assistance, they were dismissive and seemed more focused on their personal conversations than helping customers. It was clear that providing satisfactory service was not a priority for them.
To make matters worse, the quality of workmanship was appalling. I brought my car in for a routine oil change, and they managed to botch it up completely. Not only did they take an excessively long time to complete the job, but they also failed to tighten the oil filter properly, leading to a leak. This negligence resulted in extensive damage to my engine and required costly repairs. It was a clear display of incompetence and lack of attention to detail.
Moreover, the pricing at Pep Boys was exorbitant. They charged significantly more for their products and services compared to other reputable auto service centers in the area. It felt like they were trying to take advantage of customers by inflating prices without providing any additional value. It was a blatant rip-off and a clear example of their greed.
Lastly, the overall organization and cleanliness of the facility were subpar. The waiting area was dirty and disorganized, with outdated magazines and uncomfortable seating. The lack of cleanliness and order gave the impression that Pep Boys did not prioritize maintaining a professional environment for their customers.
Save yourself the headache and choose a reputable auto service center that values its customers and delivers quality work. Pep Boys should be avoided at all costs.Review fromDom A

1 starPoor customer service... I made an appointment to have an alignment for the second time since they did not do it correctly the first time and they were aware of it... I showed up for my appointment 15 minutes early and waited to be called, when I approached the desk the manager asked what I needed so I explained that I have an appointment for an alignment at 18:30, the manager turns around and looks at his coworker "how did he schedule an appointment for 18:30?" I explained that on the web that appointment was available and I got a confirmation #(info removed) the manager tells the coworker go talk to him(me) he also stated why would you make an appointment for this time? (it was available on the web and it is a valid time) the manager also stated that he did not have anyone there to do the service and I should consider rescheduling and NOT THIS LATE> I explained I work in Radiology and unfortunately this is the only time I can come ( if Pep Boys does not want to stay late they should not offer those time slots I also explained that I do not live close by and that this was a mistake that they made and the previous alignment was not done correctly... They did not care! I have a lifetime alignment package with PEP BOYS which I no longer want anything to do with this place if this is the way they treat customers. Do not waste your time/money at this place they do NOT care about the customersReview fromMai N

1 starBEWARE....Pep boys off Davis drive in Raleigh, NC went there this past Saturday 6/11 to get my front brake pads and rotors fixed again because the first time I went there which was 5/20-23 they replaced my front brakes and rotors and I drove it for 2 weeks and noticed it was off. Went back 6/11 to have them investigate and do a test drive of the work they had done previously to find out that my brake pads were loose on the car and also they had to get completely new rotors on my vehicle. Dropped my car at 8am on Saturday and then they called me back and told me that they wanted to also re-do my back brakes "drum" that they had done previously and the guy said I can have my team work on it first thing in the AM next day, so I left my car overnight and all-day Sunday and no call, I finally had to call them at 3pm in the afternoon. Come to find out my car was still in the " bay", hasn't been worked on like they said it would and wouldn't be ready until Monday. I'm angry because no one had called me to let me know that my car wouldn't be fixed til Monday that's 3 days!! and I had no notice and no communication for me to make arrangements for me to go to work on Monday! I would have liked some sort of communication or maybe compensation for an uber or rental car. Since i unknowingly wouldn't have my car for 3 days!!
