5 starsI am grateful to the staff and mechanics at Pep Boys on Dixwell Ave. in Hamden CT. They have been so helpful and supportive of me and my car for the last 6-7 years. I am a snow bird and only use my 2006 Kia Sportage 3 months out of the year. It stays in the garage for 9 months. Every year has brought new issues with the car. Pep Boys have practically rebuilt my car. The managers Larry and Scott have been so gracious, helpful, and accommodating. The master mechanic Bert worked tirelessly with his team to complete many extensive repairs in a timely manner. Yesterday they devoted 3-4 hours to getting my older car ready for emission’s test. Even though I have given them over $8,000 in repair, I always felt they gave me expert repairs and spend time to make sure my car was up and running perfectly. Thanks Pep Boys!Review fromFrankie P

1 starHad an inspection done here and they failed my inspection for wiper blades. They then charged me 30 dollars a piece for the blades. This is a rip offReview fromRoseann R

1 starPep Boys in Joliet, Illinois was to install four tires, oil change and a wheel alignment. After several hours at 5:00 p.m. I called. The service manager, Max S**** informed me my car would be ready in approximately 30 minutes. I arrived at the store at 6:00 p.m. and was informed the vehicle was not completed, but it was near completion and would be ready in approximately 30 minutes. I returned at 7:15 p.m. and was told there was a problem. Unknown to me the the crew identified a crack in the rim. I told service manager put the donut on the car and tire and rim in the car. He explained it would still be a little while. At that point I started to explain my frustrations, the service manager was upset as well, did not offer an apology or anything. He just complained about staff and being over worked. My car had been there since 2;00 pm the first day. Next day my husband called the clerk, she stated the car was ready for pick up but there is a crack rim that needed to be fixed before Pep boys could install the car. I went to pick up the car, again the car wasn't ready. After waiting 1 hour and 45 minutes I finally came to the desk and paid. Once outside, I see the donut on the front driver side and a flat tire on the driver side rear tire. I go back in and tell him he charged me for wheel alignment he did not perform and asked why would he leave my car undriveable and unsafe for driving? Nor did he explain to me I would not be able to drive my car home or to the nearest auto shop. After about 40 minutes of back and forth talking, I left the store without a refund for services clearly not performed, the wheel alignment and an undrivable car. I was informed the service manager, Max S**** would need to contact corporate for my refund. I immediately went to another store order and tires. I will be returning the tires! I have reviewed my papers and nowhere in the paperwork is documented that car was not drivable and clearly unsafe.Review fromChris T

1 starMy problem with this corporation is the pricing of parts, not my local pepboys, as the manager blamed the pricing on corporate. I needed work done on my truck. They diagnosed it right and told me the price for the part and I almost threw up! $290 for a sensor!! One of their competitors had the exact same part for $133, which is still ridiculous! I found it elsewhere for $13!!!!!! The most expensive I could find was $75 and this price included 3 other items needed for the replacement, which they charged extra for - $115 extra!!!!!! They charged me $345 (-$50 off) for two parts that I found later for $26!!!! No excuse for this robbery!!!! I will never shop at any pepboys shops for anything! Find your local garage mechanic and support local small businesses instead of these guys! Your wallet will be grateful you did!! Not even worth the one star!!!Review fromval b

1 starmy car was put into pep boys because of a 301 error...my wife told them to fix the problem. I get a call from them and the mechanic said it was the coil in number one slot. he said that since he had the plennom off i should replace all of the spark plugs and all of the coils......oh no $1000. this car ran good put was pulling code 301 (misfire cylinder one). i had been using pep boys for years and years in s.j. ca. I did not know pep boys sold to another company. Wife took it back now there was a a different code 507 the tech said it was the throttle body.....there was a vacumm leak and it was a crack in one of the plastic holders......i found it and pached it with silicon bath caulk. Error was back to 301 ..... car back to pep boys. They said the one spark plug was bad it was replaced. we got the car back......301 error shows up again back to pep man for a $1000 it should of repaired the problem also tech said by the way the throttle body should be replace also.even when 507 error was gone. the first time the top piece nissan motor emblem (plastic) was missing off the top of the black plastic motor cover. We got the car back the 301 error was back.....back to pep boys....tech said it was a bad coil and replaced it said the error 301 would go away.....IT DID NOT. We needed to car we had to go to my daughter house....on the way back to car DIED....called the tow truck (1 or 2 AM).I payed for the tow to my house $100 bucks. Pep boys called the car was towed to them. Now they said the car needed a engine rebuild...same code 301...wife had towed the car back to our house....this time it was $150.00......guess what this time the bolds were missing from the plenum.....how can the now say it it needs a rebuild if the plemum was not bolted back on....(remember bolts now missing). By the way we had a technician come to the house......the new coils that we could see (2,4,6) were burnt up. the cabes going to the coils melted.... tech said that a wire had been pinched.Review fromJerry P.

1 starTook my car to get serviced (08/27/2022), they did a VEHICLE INSPECTION and gave me a quote for a little over $1000 for a damaged sensor. Had to leave the car overnight since it was closer to closing.
The next day (08/28/2022) I received a call that the car was ready for pick up. I barely got out of their parking lot when the car started giving me the same problem that I brought the car in for in the first place. Now I'm sitting in their waiting area not knowing what the next problem will be.
Not happy in any way. Hopefully, they don't come with some bull that something else is wrong and it's going to cost me more!!! Even if they are stating the truth, situations like this cause a loss of confidence in the business.
UPDATE #1 (09/06/2022): After a week, I had to bring the car back (for the second time AFTER repairs). It is giving me the exact problem and now the car smells of burning fluid. Possibly something is leaking. I regret ever taking my vehicle to this location.
UPDATE #2 (09/07/2022): After speaking with the Manager at 1100 he tells me that they have yet to see my car but will get to it immediately. (I even got the text that my car was getting serviced); He will call me as soon as he gets some information. I show up at 1500 to see what's going on since I haven't gotten a call. They have yet to even look at my car... It's been sitting there since yesterday. I don't even wish service on my greatest enemy.
UPDATE #3 (09/07/2022): They state, "the services we provided are good, what you have is another problem (not related to the initial problem) that we don't service... You have to go to another mechanic." I got scammed out of 1k dollars and I got my car back the same as when I brought it in... How come the initial VEHICLE INSPECTION or the subsequent inspections fail to catch this "NEW" problem???
I regret coming to this place...Review fromAshley T.

1 starBuddy at this business was the most unprofessional rude and degrading person I’ve ever had to deal with he’s a manager at Pep Boys and not only did he lie to me about my tire not being available and then 10 minutes later suddenly being available when the truck that drops them off only comes once a day and it was already there for deliveries suddenly came back within 10 minutes And deliver my tires accused me a calling him a liar when I questioned this threw my keys at me multiple times and told me if I don’t tell him verbally that I will not give him a problem I can take my business elsewhere even after my frustration led me to crying he once again threw my keys at me and told me it appears I have not calmed down and I need to reassure him that I will not give him a problem and made me say I won’t be a problem and that it’s a yes or no answer he talked down to me accused me of being rude because I showed him my phone when he asked if I took care of my registration yet and I showed my phone to him and said I’m on the phone with penndot now he told me that was an aggressive manner and he will not tolerate that and this is after he threw my keys at me I kept repeating I just want my tires done please do my tires I just want my tires done and he would not do my tires unless I told him no sir I won’t be a problem after crying outside for a little bit I realize that it’s not worth my trouble and pains and agony I went in and asked for my keys and leftReview fromBrian K.

1 starI took my Pontiac Montana in for a couple of gasket changes and oil change. It came back worse than when I took it in. They assured me, they could fix it. But now, I have a possibly dangerous exhaust leak, right at the drivers feet. I have tried to talk to them about it, with no luck. They kept it for 2 1/2 weeks. I would not have believed the run around I got, from a nationally known name like PEPBOYS. Maybe when they become Pepmen, they can be trusted. But I wouldn’t trust them now. I am retired, and a vet. They don’t care who they screw. Read the reviews on yelp, before you trust them with your vehicle.
