JG Wentworth has been harassing me with ***** emails DAILY about loan offers or an approval for a loan I did not apply for. My credit is frozen and I did not authorize the use of my person information for this purpose. It has been relentless and I just want them to leave me alone. I am not a customer and never will be. In Dec. 2023 I reached out to JG about helping with a debt forgiveness program. They made guarantees that they would work on my behalf to help settle my debt. After a year and a half they have collected over $10k from me, and have not made any attempts to settle 3 of the 6 of my accounts. After several correspondence regarding creditors, settlement offers, and collections notices, they still have not acted on the 3 outstanding accounts. When I asked for a progress ***ort showing how much of my money has gone to fees as opposed to settlements, when these creditors were contacted, and what was discussed I was given no answer. To date I am unable to get any updates on the accounts that have been sent to collections and my credit has suffered incredibly. Then, in a predatory move, they tried to offer me a loan for all of the debt that I had remaining, only to reject me for the loan because they didn't recognize one of the creditors which has been listed on my account since the beginning. At this point I am convinced that I'm going to be paying them forever because they're never going to act on settling any of my debt. Now I'm stuck in some contract where they are taking over $600 a month out of my account, and they are not providing me with any updates. Prior to their loan offer on May 27th 2025, I had not been contacted by anyone at JG Wentworth since 2/24/24. They have shown my account no attention, when I requested assistance, I was told that they don't know how to handle internal and external emails, and again was left without a response. I can no longer get in touch with the account *** who set me up, all of his emails come back as undeliverable. I have records of documents uploaded showing creditors ready to settle and being ignored. I had a settlement offer from a creditor which I received on 7/17/24, the offer was only available until 9/6/24, as of 5/27/25, no one at JG Wentworth claims to be aware of this settlement offer. Following a review of the consumers enrollment and welcome calls, it was confirmed that no guarantee was made regarding the settlement of all enrolled creditors within six months. The consumer was informed that funds must accumulate over time before settlement negotiations can begin, and that this process would continue throughout the duration of the program until all six creditors are settled.
The consumer enrolled $37,532.08 in debt into a 48-month program and currently has 31 months remaining. The $600 withdrawal referenced in the complaint is part of the program fees, which are applied upon the successful settlement of a creditor and the initiation of the first payment. These terms are clearly outlined in the agreement signed by the consumer on December 28, 2023.
Additionally, the loan option offered is entirely voluntary. While the consumer expressed interest in exploring this option, the loan was ultimately not approved following underwriting review.
We remain committed to working on the consumers behalf to obtain settlements and make payments to creditors as outlined in the program.Customer Answer

I initiated a cancellation of the account I had with *** Wentworth approximately May 1-5 and was assured that funds would no longer be drafted from my account however a month later they are still taking funds from my account. They were initially hired to consolidate my debt bit after reconsidering I canceled however they are still taking my money and when I call in they say the same thing over and over again this needs to be reported and documented.Business Response

We have processed the cancellation of your program. On the original cancellation date, May 20, 2025, a payment draft was already scheduled. Unfortunately, we require at least three business days' notice to halt a scheduled draft, as we must coordinate with your escrow account provider. The payment was not processed due to insufficient funds. A subsequent draft attempt on May 25, 2025, occurred due to a system error during the cancellation process; however, no funds were withdrawn. I receive multiple calls a day from JG Wentworth wanting me to take out a loan. I have asked every time for them to remove me from their list and they ignore me and keep talking until I have to get loud and only then will they stop their sepal. I asked to be removed from their call list and I am either told they will or simply hang up on only to receive another call a few hours later. It is the same thing every day for the last two weeks. They continue to ignore my requests. I have never signed up for their service or requested a loan or anything from them. They breaking the law and refuse to stop calling me. My next move after this is to contact an attorney if they do not stop harassing me.Business Response

I was hung up on 4 times by client service. I have emailed twice with no response. The main company that I was told would settle first has not even been addressed. I have been in the program for months and have questions that nobody will answer. You are recovering fees yet I can't talk to anybody. JG Wentworth is supposed to make their payment on the 20th of each month to me. They have been late several times. In 2014, I had to employ an attorney to have them spoken to and to compel them to pay the amount of $2600 by the 20th of the month. For a period of time, they had been good, but it appears that they are sliding back into their old habits. The payment was not made and now its costing me more in insufficient funds fees! I want to have my money on time, or even a day or two early, and they will need to repay the cost of $140 extra, to make up for their dereliction of duty on this matter!Business Response

Dear Better Business Bureau,Im filing a complaint against JG Wentworth and their legal partner ************************* Law for misrepresentation and failure to provide promised services under their Litigation Protection ********** May 2024, I received a warning from *********** about a credit card debt. I responded by entering into a payment plan, and Capital dropped their legal action. Shortly after, JG Wentworth contacted me and convinced me to stop paying ***********, promising they would handle everything through their program.I signed an agreement with ***************************** on August 24, 2024, which was supposed to cover legal defense for enrolled debts. In December 2024, while I was in ******* caring for my mother after her stroke, I was served a new lawsuit from ***********. Because of the medical emergency, I missed the 3-day window to notify A&S *******, I face default judgment and possible wage garnishment. When I reached out for help, A&S Law claimed I wasnt eligible because the lawsuit was already in progress before I enrolled. Thats not trueCapitals original suit was dropped when I entered a payment plan. The current lawsuit started after I enrolled in JG Wentworths program.Their defense is false and misleading, and their poor handling of my casecombined with advice to stop paying Capital Onedirectly caused this legal crisis. 12/13/2024 - I became a client of JG Wentworth for a debt "consolidation" program. The program was to consolidate and settle my credit card debt. I was told my debts would be settled within 4-6 months a d someone would start negotiating right away. I was told it would save me between 30-50% in my debt. On 04/01/2025 I audited my account and found no ********************** negotiations after nearly 4 months. The only settlement listed was one that O negotiated with Discover fir a payment of $100/mo. ** was withdrawing over $628/mo from my checking account since January to pay off my debt. On 04/01 I found my account balance at $.04. A breakdown of transactions found JG Wentworth had been withdrawing all of my funds for so called "maintenance fees", "transaction fees", and "settlement fees" leaving no money fir my Discover payment or for negotiations. They did NOT pay my April payment because they stole all of my funds and lied and told me Discover defaulted me for non payment. I verified with Discover I did not default and was listed as paid as agreed. I then started paying Discover directly and ended my contract with **. They never refunded my money and took everything in my accpunt.Business Response

On 1/9/2025 you approved a term settlement with your creditor Discover. This term settlement presented to you showed the monthly amounts that we would be sending each month. We did make two payments successfully to your creditor Discover and per the agreement you signed, we are entitled to collect our fee. Due to your cancellation of the program, we collected our fees owed for that successful settlement. The third-party fees are collected for your escrow account and the third-party legal protection you elected to enroll into. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us directly.

Please provide me with the contract that was signed stating I approved your fees. The only contract I signed said I paid only if JG Wentworth negotiated and reached a settlement on my behalf. JG did not settle with Discover, I did. I never received a breakdown of any fees or information and this was verified by your team. Please provide a statement of all of the months you collected payment from my checking account and an itemization of the fees you charged along with the payments submitted to Discover. I also want a call log because it should be noted I called several times wanting out of the program due to JG Wentworth neglecting to abide by a contract and settle any debts on my behalf. If you are claiming I gave you authorization, it is on you to provide evidence of your claim.
