Vanguard told me I needed to switch my IRA over to their brokerage platform or suffer a new yearly fee. They informed me it would be a few minutes online. However, the online system requires me to list my employer's address online, I work overseas, and the system only accepts American addresses.
They are, of course, completely uninterested in fixing their website to accommodate other customers who work in Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, London, Frankfurt, Dubai, etc. Their only other option is mail about 60 pages to the customer's permanent address in the states.
It's been about four months since this whole absurdity started. I've wasted about 3-4 hours on the phone (while paying for the overseas calls) failing to sort if out. I still haven't managed to switch over my account, but I sure to aim to switch to some other company at some point. This is IRS-level incompetence and customer disrespect.

Please be aware before you decide to invest into 401k with this corporation. I no longer work for a company that I once contributed to 401k with vanguard. They won't let me terminate the account. Very shady business practices. Now I will have to get a 401k attorney. The customer service is terrible. Save yourselves the headache and do not invest with vanguard!!

I would give Vanguard zero stars if I could. We have been customers for years and their customer service is beyond useless. I would have made the complaint to Vanguard directly, but have been repeatedly told there is no way to do that, they do not accept them.
Vanguard has forced shareholders to move to their brokerage platform because they are changing internal platforms. In the process, the shareholder has payed the price.....
As a result of a change foisted on us by Vanguard I have lost access to my mother's accounts. This access is critical since she is 94 and I am her caretaker. I was promised repeated in the process, that would not happen and I have been fighting for 2 months to get it restored. The horrors of the customer service, the dishonesty, the lack of accountability are too many to list, but 2 months later I still do not have access. Most recently I was told they have no knowledge of what has occurred even though I'm supposedly on a recorded line.
Vanguard customer service is useless, they provide no reliable way to escalate since they promise to call you back and do not, and the the representatives provide no information which can be relied upon. Vanguard required my family to with to their brokerage platform then removed access and check writing and made it my problem even though the change was made because of their internal system changes and which they claimed would not occur.

Vanguard was TERRIBLE and in my opinion, just tries to hang on to your money as long as they
can when you try to close out your account. We needed to take the money to use as a down payment on our new home. In the day and age of easy wire transfers, this shouldn't take very long, right? Welp, they could not wire the money to our title company in time for our closing, so we almost lost our new home. Thankfully, after draining ALL of our personal and business accounts,
we were at least able to close, and the sellers were not devastated as well. Understand, Vanguard, this is MY MONEY, NOT YOURS! Well, 5 days after the deal closed, they did finally wire the money to the title company, but under an ACH, which a title company CANNOT ACCEPT. So, now my account was put on hold- Easy fix, right? - to go into my Vanguard account, take out the title company's bank info, enter my own personal bank info, and have them re-wire it directly to me... but NO.... Even though it was an ACH, which reserves them the right to take back the funds, they tell me that all they can do is send a check for $20 K - IN THE MAIL!!!!!????
And.... it will now be ANOTHER 10 days!!! WE HAVE MORTGAGE PAYMENTS TO MAKE ON THE RENTAL HOMES WE OWN, BUT NOW WE HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER FREAKING 10 DAYS TO REPLENISH OUR PERSONAL ACCOUNTS-all because Vanguard can't or won't get their act together. Again, this is MY HARD EARNED MONEY, THAT THEY THINK THEY CAN JUST KEEP LONGER THAN THEY SHOULD. My husband withdrew enough money from HIS 401 K to keep us afloat while we wait for this money to finally come by check, and they wired it on the SAME DAY he requested it. DON'T EVER INVEST WITH THEM- They hire phone reps from another country who cannot communicate well, they treat their customers like &#%+ because they know they can get away with it.

I've had Vanguard accounts for 20 years. However, in the last two years, it's been almost impossible to get through to them on the phone.
"Impossible" = 2+ hour waits and an average of 3 transfer calls.
Unfortunately, at this point, I'm simply moving my IRAs, etc. to another firm.

Garbage company. My job, unfortunately uses them for their 401k and they're a dumpster fire of a company to actually try to get your money from them. I asked for a distribution and they denied my request because my documentation was insufficient yet I literally provided what they asked for.

Vanguard recently Upgraded their website. The Settlement fund account is where all incoming and outgoing transactions settle, such as Dividends received, funds received for securities sold, funds transfered out to pay for securities bought and money transfers to and from your checking/savings. It shows the transaction along with the settlement date but no longer shows the running total (account balance) along with each line item transaction. It has become impossible for investors to audit this account for accuracy.

They have not issued my 401k rollover check for over two months. After five phone conversations, I am not getting the same information nor any closer to getting my funds. They have refused to escalate me to a manager, stating they will call me back. They have promised to email items and they have never come through. On the most recent call, they are stated they will "overnight" the check to me this time; but then I was accidentally transferred, and the second person is wanting to charge me for the overnighting. I still have not spoken to a manager, nor do I have the check. This is beyond acceptable!

Worst customer service I have ever encountered. Been working on a withdrawal and every time I call to find out what the issue is I'm told something different. I'm not sure there is a soul in customer service who knows how to help. I can't wait to get out from under vanguard and move to a company that understands this business.
To BBB...0 stars should be an option. This place doesn't even deserve 1 star.

I applied for a hardship loan with my 401k through Vanguard and sent all the documents they asked for and was denied. I got a call from Steve telling me that I applied for too much and needed to resubmit the application with the exact number all over again and the paperwork allover again. Ok. Fine. I submit all the documents per Steves request and this time and faxed them over. I check back later and find out my hardship loan denied again because they needed more information. I sent the Exparte Motion to Reinstate Stay as it applies to the documents needed as it says in their rules," Copy of pending eviction or foreclosure notice." Pending" is the key word. My foreclosure is pending if I don't get the funds needed to bring my mortgage current, I asked to speak to management. I was told "a team made this decision and a manager could not do anything to approve my request until i send the documents needed with an exact eviction or foreclosure date. I explained to the lady, This IS the pending foreclosure document. She still tells me there is nothing she can do until she gets a date which it has on the documents. I explained to her that it is impossible for me to get another date dated after this document that I already have saying that I AM actually foreclosed on. I am trying to prevent foreclosure. This is the craziest thing I've ever heard! If they say send the pending foreclousre documents which is a Motion to Lift stay and reinstate stay and I need this amount of money to prevent foreclosure whats the problem? Seems like its real hard to get a hardship loan.
