1 starCustomer Review:
Engine: Underpowered. Uphill speed at was 15mph in a 65 mph zone. This is not a safe operating speed, and endangers the operator as well as those on the highway.
Underpowered brakes. Excessive force required to actuate brakes. Especially dangerous on a downhill slope, high risk of vehicle rollover, especially given how top heavy these trucks tend to be.
Right Rear axel was periodically smoking. I suspect something misaligned with the brakes. Again, unsafe.
Trailer/Car Carrier. Brakes regularly locked up. Often jerked. Tie-Down system is poorly designed and would not be suitable for proper vehicular transport, had to add a personal ratchet strap to ensure proper safety of vehicle during transport.
Speed Sensor. Something is amiss. While driving at 55 mph, which was rare because of the lack of power to the engine, I would regularly pass signs saying that the speed limit was 65 and the sensors would trigger an alarm saying that I was speeding and cut engine power. This also happened as I was passing a weigh station with a posted speed of 30 mph, even though I was not actually in the lane for the weigh station.
Deck height. This is really too high to be climbing in and out of safely, even with the ramp. I ended up having to leave behind a $3000 freezer unit because of the steep incline, which was necessary as if the freezer were to fall loose on the ramp, it could fall and crush somebody. High risk to human life.
It is painfully clear that Penske doesn't take customer safety seriously as it rents out these underpowered death traps, which is precisely what they are. These trucks are dangerously underpowered and have woefully weak braking systems. How they are even remotely street legal is beyond me. I will never rent a Penske truck again.Review fromClient H

1 starThe absolutely worse company to lease or purchase a commercial vehicle from!! They have illegal invoicing practices. They are a scam outfit. The most unprofessional staff we ever encountered. From the beginning to the end of the lease. This company tried to handoff the truck in the most horrific shape imaginable from the very start. The most regretful decision we EVER made is doing business with PENSKE LEASING. They are stealing small business funds!!Review fromKevin R

1 starLeft for Dead by Penske! The 1st truck died within the 1st 60 miles. The replacement was badly mismanaged. At one point Penske's sub-sub-contractor would not pay the crew who moved our stuff to truck 2 from truck 1. Those guys wanted us to pay them directly. We were stranded in the snow and dark with rough strangers. No Penske employees in sight. We were rented a second truck but not asked whether we wanted insurance. We were BILLED for a second truck – unbeknownst to us at the time. We were told truck 2 was newer with less miles; the exact opposite was true. We thought we had accident insurance but did not (wait, it keeps getting worse). We had a small accident and are now in serious financial jeopardy. The rental form makes it look like we have insurance for this. We are probably going to get sued. We only learned we had been billed for BOTH trucks 2 days AFTER the move. Credit cards have limits, and we are at, near, or over ours. If we had exceeded the limit during the move, we would not have had money for fuel, food, shelter, automatic payments, move-in costs, or emergencies. No warning. No remorse. The moving crew was fast, but not careful. Our moving blankets, ropes, and moving straps were not used. We experienced significant damage to our belongings and do not really know whether every box got loaded. One guy loaded a long blue plastic tote into his personal van as we were leaving. Did it contain garbage or our tax returns? We will not know for months. This list is by no means complete- but it is all I can think of right now. Penske wrecked our move, got us sued, and maxed out our credit card.Review fromOsei A

1 starOn August 5th I made a deposit with Penske to purchase a 26' box truck. I had explained to them that I needed the truck for a contract that was being offered to my business. They assured me that it normally takes about 2 weeks to have the truck ready. By August 24th I was in contact with them and explained if the truck was not ready I was no longer interested. They assured me that everything was going well. By early September they told me that I was going to get a truck that weekend. I told them that I would like to bring my mechanic to look at the truck. Days later I was told that the truck was not ready as promised. The week of September 18th I once again reached out to them that I'm going to lose the contract if I wasn't able to get the truck. Then they assured me the truck will be ready on the 24th. On the 24th I picked up the truck and had to go purchase a pallet jack days later. On 26th while going to pick up the pallet jack my check engine light came on. Penske asked me to take it to a shop and after the shop sends them a quote they will handle all the expenses. After the truck quote was sent I sent it to Penske and the shop asked Penske to call if any issues. Penske said they needed a more detailed quote but for 2 weeks no one called the shop. And I told Penske numerous times that the shop will like for them to call. At this point, I lost the contract because I wasn't able to produce the truck I thought I purchased. I reached out to Penske and explained that I feel they did a forced sale. Because had I known that the truck was not ready I wouldn't have purchased it. They sold me a truck knowing there were issues with it. They ask me to contact Philip Premici to have this issue resolved. Have called him 7 times. Emailed him twice and not once has he responded or returned my calls. Right now the finance and insurance company have been pulling $3700 a month out of my business bank account. To the point where I'm in a negative in my account and still no answer.Review fromAllison T

5 starsPenske had the best customer service, a new, clean truck and when I had some problems arise and had to extend my reservation they were always easy to get a hold of and quick and efficient in making changes to my initial reservation. I hope I never have to move again but I will definitely use Penske trucks, if I do.Review fromAllen W

1 starI I have purchased a truck from Penske in August 2022 while the truck was being prepped I scheduled a pick up for the truck on September 30 of 2022 in which I received a bill of sale in the sales receipt I was told that the title would be sent to me later the title was sent to me a couple of weeks later in which I was told by Penske rep that they sent me the wrong title or the title didn’t have the lienholder‘s information on it and I must send it back unfortunately the title was mailed to my virtual mailing address in which I had to wait for it to be mailed back to my home address which took approximately 2 to 3 weeks I was told by Penske rep that she sent for a duplicate title being that it took so long and that she needed the title to send to the finance company. The title was not loss or stolen . I didnt see the need for a duplicate . As a matter of fact I could heve registered my truck with the title she sent me but I didnt do that because of the promised that was made to me that soon as they get it from me they would have ot expressed back to me from the finance compsny. when I mailed the title back to Penske and they received it I was told that they sent out for a duplicate title and that title was no longer good and that I would have to wait up to 10 weeks to receive the title I was not told that from the start and if she knew of that why would she stand for duplicate knowing that I had the title For some reason I felt that this was all a set up in this was all done purposely the mailing out of the wrong illegitimate title in for the same for a new title I read a previous complaint and a customer has had the same situation how is that. After the penske rep recieved the title from me everything changed. I was told that they sent out for a duplicate title and it will take up to 10 weeks to process. I wonder why it’s a rush Where they couldn’t wait two weeks but they can wait ten weeks instead. For the the title that I was waiting on that was not loss . A.B.TReview fromJose N

1 starI called my local Penske to do a reservation for a 26FT truck. (I've been doing business with Penske forever). the level of customer service was beyond horrible. They told me to do the reservation "ONLINE" it was cheaper 149.99 for the day, so, I did! called to confirm my reservation to ask about Insurance. the supposed supervisor as he claimed, was RUDE and mentioned he was not renting the size unit for that price, and that the online advertising was wrong. his prices were $300.00 a day. After a back & fourth heated phone exchange, I felt as if I'm being robbed. How can they not honor the online pricing and implement their own prices? After that convo, they took it upon themselves to cancel my reservation. I called the toll-free number. nothing was resolved there. I tried doing the reservation again under my wife. same outcome but this time a different price was offered to her $250.00, and the truck wasn't guaranteed to be available the next morning. that the site prices were wrong and he was not honoring it. that IT supposedly" knows the prices are wrong. As a consumer that's not my problem, I reserve under what's advertised. They implement their own prices depending on who is the consumer. Inside hustle, I felt like it was going on. If it's Online it's legit!
CHICOPEE LOCATION is the worst! beware of the scam. I asked to pick up at a second location (home depot) and the customer service agent said there should be one available after 4 pm. The local office called me saying they weren't going to have any available. I proceed to tell him, the customer service lady spoke to an agent in the local office that a truck was due to be returned. he said that wasn't true. a lot of running around and bad advertisement and communication.Review fromTufal k.

1 starRented a 26 feet truck one way picked checked out from Toledo OH and returned in Keller TX at Home Depot . Rental Inspection report at check out showed gas at 7/8th tank ( the lady came with me for rental inspection with a prepopulated report which showed that tank was full but when I checked I showed her it was 7/8 and she made a note of that on the inspection report ) . I returned 7/8th full. At the return , the lady who was processing it told me that the tank is empty , I told her that I just put diesel in the tank and I could show her maybe she in not looking at the right gauge , waited at least 45 minutes while she was talking to someone over the phone but didnt get anywhere with her. Then asked another lady at customer service who went with me and we both took pics of the gauge showing 7/8th tank. I showed her the yellow carbon copy of inspection report showing tank at 7/8th and after 75 minutes I left with negative - $394 statement because I returned a day earlier. The next day I receive an email from Penske showing that I have to pay them $481 for 48.1 gallons of diesel ??? Despite showing the staff that the truck was returned with exactly the same reading , Penske still sent me this email .
All what I can say is that I had the most incompetent people to deal with , they were clueless not knowing what they were doing . I do understand that times are tough and maybe Penske is not making a lot of money but this is not the way to make money . They wasted my time and now I have to wait for someone to talk to someone to fix it and return to me with a resolution .Review fromSamuel B

1 starMy family has used Penske since 2010 and averaged a move every other year. I realize that's a drop in the ocean in terms of their revenue stream, but I say that to convey we were loyal customers.
Currently I intend to move from Leonard, TX, to Dallas, TX---a 75 mile trip each way. Penske does not have a location near Leonard, TX, so I made a one-way reservation at two other locations in Dallas. Given the length of the trip, it is clearly important to pay more for the truck and insurance to have unlimited miles.
The system allowed me to make the reservation and took my payment information. The next day, I received confirmation of a very different reservation. I chatted with one of Penske's employees, Jennifer, who said she contacted my district and fixed the situation. However, then at the end of the day I received several emails. Not only was my trip cancelled, but a new reservation with a van, rather than a 26 foot truck, was ordered.
I called and spoke with an employee. He said my order would not be honored and my choices were to cancel or pay per mile. I would've driven thousands of miles and wasted days if I did the move with a van. I cancelled the order. Leaving me in a situation where I have to find a new company right before my move.
Given the fact that I was told twice my trip was confirmed, only to have it then cancelled, I decided I submit a complaint. I chatted with an employee who said she found a supervisor that was available and he would be calling me. She took my number, but he never called.
It is clear by their actions they do not care about losing my family's business. And that's OK. Again, I understand we are a drop in the ocean. But I wanted to submit the information in the hopes it makes it to someone who can prevent this from happening in the future. Not for me-clearly I'm no longer going to be utilizing their company.Review fromArmin M

1 starAfter purchasing 6 units from this company in May, I still haven’t received any of the units. The three units that I did receive had issues that should have been fixed before allowing me to pick them up. They’ve been in their shop for 5 weeks and they still haven’t even even touched them. Their corporation phone numbers are never available and no one replies to any emails. It took me 3 weeks to finally get in contact with someone at their repair coordination team. All together a very bad experience and would not recommend purchasing from this company.
