We started using Capital Waste services in 2021. Not long after service started, there was an occasional missed pick up. Every time that I would call and let them know, they would never pick up until the following week. A few times they blamed it on the gate being locked. They sent a picture one time to my phone of the locked gate at 6:45 am . I explained to them that my business did not open until 8 am. This was discussed prior to me signing up with them. As time went on, the missed pick ups were getting more frequent and sometimes they would miss two a month. I still paid my bill as usual. I started calling more often and it was always the same old story. " Someone will call you back". This never happened.
In august of this year, I have had enough. I called and told them I wanted to end my service due to the horrible service I was getting and the terrible lack of communication. They told me they would have the container picked up. After two weeks, I called back. I spoke with Buddy Bishop. He told me that I had to " SEND A CERTIFIED LETTER TO END SERVICE." I sent a certified letter ending my service and it was signed by Capital Waste on September the 4th. It's now November the 22nd and the container is still on my property, not being used or dumped. I'm still getting billed and now they just sent me a certified letter saying that I will have to pay out my contract of nearly $2000.00! I've emailed billing 5 times with no response. I've contacted the Columbia office countless times with no resolve. I understand I did sign a 5 year contract with Capital Waste. However, at what point does not performing their services as expected come into play?Initial Complaint

We have been using Capital Waste Services since October 19, 2018 and have not missed a payment. It has only been recent as early as of this year that the church has been dissatisfied with the service due to missed pick ups. This started April 3, 2024 when our church requested that the garbage service be discontinued due the to missed pick ups. The church requested that the garbage service be discontinued and the dumpster be removed from the property as soon as possible, reason being was the church did not want to go through another billing cycle. The company explained that the church would be breaking the contract early and would have to pay the penalty which is termed "Liquid Damages" for early termination of contract. The church was asked to send a certified letter requesting termination of the contract April 15,2024. The certified letter was sent and received by the company. There was a May 2024 bill sent and was paid. The church was billed in June 2024 and received a credit for that month. We have satisfied all requirements at the company's request to include "liquid damages" to the amount of $857.46 which was paid. The church continues to be billed and the dumpster still remains on the church property even after speaking to the sales rep. on several occasions. The church was billed again for July and August and was told via email that the church would be sent to collections if the bill was not satisfied. The company gave a credit for the month of August, but the church was told to pay for the month of July. There have been several requests made to remove the dumpster since April 3rd of this year. It is now September 28,2024 and the church has yet to see a resolution in this matter and continues to be billed again after satisfying all requests by Capital Waste sales rep. (Jarrett Schumpert). The church has all email correspondence between Capital Waste Services and will send upon request. Thank you for your help in this matter.Initial Complaint

I contacted Capital Waste in April of this year to cancel my contract. I was contacted by Brian M********* who told me that I was under contract until August and that per my contract I should notify them in July by letter to cancel my contract. So, I said fine I would keep the contract until expiration. In July I sent them the letter to cancel my contract. I then called on July 21st to make sure they received it. They transferred me to Tays and asked if they received it. He said they received it. I said so you have everything you need to cancel the contract? He said Yes. They did not come and pick up the dumpster, but I received another monthly bill on 8/20/24. I immediately called them to inquire and explained the situation to the lady answering the phone, who told me Tays is no longer there and she would transfer me to Brook who could handle it. I got Brook's voice mail and briefly explained the situation along with giveing her my account and asked her to call me back. I did not receive a call back. So, I went to their website and filled out a form explaining the situation again and requested a response. Still no response. I will not be paying this bill and they need to come and get their dumpster. No wonder they have an F rating on the BBBCustomer Answer

I have been trying to get ahold of anyone with Priority Waste/Capital Waste for months now. It started in January of this year when I received a larger than normal bill. I reached out and spoke to our representative and he stated he would lower our rate and the next billing cycle would reflect. Well, it did not happen and actually went up again. I again tried to reach out to the company here in town, left several messages with zero call backs. I got so frustrated I called their South Carolina office and spoke with some people there who assured me they would call back. They did not. After receiving more bills, more late statements, I call the office. Time and time again I have explained I just want them to pick up their property as we no longer need them due to this inconvenience and the fact NO one will return my calls. I have a total of 19 calls between the local office and SC branch, no one returns or will even attempt to help me. I would like my account wiped clean and for PWS to pick up their property.Initial Complaint

I paid for a monthly service and I also paid for an extra trash can I was told it would be delivered in 2 to 3 business days when I didn't receive it I called too inquire about it I was told it had been delivered I then told them I never recieved it because if it was delivered at said time and date my children would have seen it because that is the time they go too school. Everyone I spoke too was rude especially the young lady named halley she needs more customer service training my neighbors don't have my can because they deal with a different company I would like my money back the service I paid for and these shady business practices needs too be stoppedBusiness Response

Our Charleston office responded to the complainant immediately. The trash bins were delivered to his address but placed on the resident's neighbor's side (duplex) This was corrected the very next day. The resident now has the bins in his possession. The customer service representative was coached as to doing the right thing in addressing customers. Her calls are also being monitored. The customer was then satisfied with the apology and correction that was made by the company.Initial Complaint

On January 17th 2024 our trash was supposed to be picked up by Capital Waste Services. Due to bad weather the trash was understandably not picked up. the following week January 22nd I called to get information about when they would be picking up (all the snow had been cleaned off the road) The customer service representative stated they would not be making up the date they missed and would not be refunding any money for the services not rendered. the employee became rude and hung up. the follow day i attempted to speak to a manager about the employee and the refund. I spoke with Lisa at the Soddy daisy location. she said they would not be refunding any money because they tried to get the trash but the roads were still too bad. i asked for her to send it up to her manager to which she said she would. the follow day i called Lisa again to ask about the resolution to which she said her manager said they would not refund any money. on Jan 24th Capital Waste was supposed to pick up on their regularly scheduled day however failed to do so. I again called Lisa and she said they were just behind and would get it picked up sometime this week. She also said they would not refund the two missed pick ups.
When asked how they would charge for services how rendered Lisa's reply was it was just like when they power goes out you still pay for the services.Customer Answer

We were NOT under a contract any longer with Capital Waste and were moving locations in August of 2023. We had such horrible service by them over the years that I decided to go with someone else once we moved. I sent emails and talked to Buddy Bishop on the phone requesting our account be canceled and that the containers could be picked up anytime 8/1/23 or after. As of last week, the containers were still sitting there and I am now receiving 'past due' amount bills from them for September, and October. I have repeatedly emailed Buddy and the 'accounting' person Mandy Corley to request the account be CLOSED and dumpsters removed from our previous location at *** Gadsden Street to absolutely no response. I am afraid this is going to effect our credit at some point as it seems they are still billing us and counting it as late. PLEASE HELP!!Business Response

I had Capital Waste trash services at my last home for years, and never had a problem with them. When I sold the house, I had my service cancelled. Was told that everything was fine on my end, so I moved out. That was in July. I have since then continued to receive bills and past due notices for the account. I've called at least 4 times, and every time I've been told not to worry, that my account was going to be cancelled. Each time I call, they ask me where the can is. I last left it next to the house, but I no longer live there and was never told I needed to do anything special with the can. I can't believe how difficult and frustrating it has been to cancel services with CWS.
