So five years ago someone used my ID to get a gym membership and I didn’t know about this and then this company bought the debt that I had no idea about and started sending letters to my email now 5 years later they but it on my credit report I called them and told them I didn’t open a gym membership, this isn’t right. In fact, it’s predatory for a secondary agency that bought a debt. And it is fraudulentBusiness Response

I received a notice stating I owed $135 to a gym that I have never been a member to, "Get Fit 24/7". I have been notified that my identity information has been leaked, and I believe this is a direct consequence of being a victim of identity fraud. I demand that the Derogatory notice from my Transunion credit report be removed. I have also filed a dispute with Transunion to do the same. The fact that so many individuals have experienced the same exact situation with different names of companies is a huge red flag and should be investigated for misconduct and fraud.Business Response

To Whom It May Concern,
I am contacting your office regarding an alleged debt you claim I owe. I am formally requesting validation of this debt, as required under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), 15 U.S.C. §1692g.
As a consumer protected under federal law, I request that you provide the following documentation:
1. The name and address of the original creditor;
2. A full itemized statement of the alleged amount owed;
3. A copy of the original contract or agreement bearing my signature;
4. Proof that your agency is legally authorized to collect this debt in New York.
This is not a refusal to pay but a request for validation. Until you provide complete verification, you must cease all collection activities, including reporting or verifying this debt with any credit bureau. Reporting unvalidated debt violates both the FDCPA and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
