A salesman knocked on our door on a SUNDAY telling us about solar and how if we don't put solar up, we will continue to see increases to our bill by AEP. We agreed we would listen further about solar and how it works. Once the salesman had his pitch, he explained the first step was to submit an application to the program to see if we would even be accepted. He kept claiming our electric bill would be a fixed rate and no money out of our pocket. He sent an email to fill out what he claimed was an application for the program acceptance. Once I opened the Docusign, I could clearly see it was not an application. The document clearly stated, "loan agreement". The salesman claimed he would just explain everything as we went through the application. About the third time he told me just to click and initial, I stopped him and explained I wanted to read this "Application" over in detail before submitting anything and to speak with my husband about it. He was persistent to not allow me to do that. I explained to him that what he was having me sign was not an application, and it was a loan agreement. He swore up and down it was not a loan agreement even though the document clearly stated that. Then I explained to him that this program was not a fixed rate because I have to put $17,600 back into the loan to keep my payment at the same rate. He stuttered saying that it was a fixed rate. That is not a fixed rate. Then I asked him to explain how my electric bill would be the same payment forever if I am paying a loan payment and an electric bill based on the solar power efficiency. As a side note, I live in Ohio where sunshine is very limited in winter months. All he could say was that the elderly customers are who they help out the most because they are on a fixed income. They are taking advantage of elderly since they are not being honest about this being a loan. This should be illegal to try to strong arm people and not be honest about what the program is and how it is a LOANBusiness Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.My hope is that Ambia changes their practices and are more transparent in what potential customers are signing up for and avoiding placing extra unexpected bills on unknowing consumers. I do not fault the sales representative, because I fully believe he was taught to try selling this product in the way he did. I don’t think he fully understands that he is scamming people.

The Solar program with Ambia is a government program they said it would be no out of pocket and the monthly cost would be less then I'm paying now after all was said and done after getting the panels dropped off in the middle of my driveway and setting there for almost a month two days shy of then after that I needed an inspection for me to be on the grid, then waited for an onther month an a half to be hooked up so, my friend had a bill from everbright it was my first of hearing of them being out of Texas whom receives my money that if I'd known that my money was going to be sent to ***** I wouldn't have agreed to Ambias advances to install this system, after receiving my first billing I was expecting from Ambia the bill was 40 more then I was told it would be 180 so ****** now I'm 4 going 5 months not paying everbright because we had an agreement, the monthly rate was to be ****** so when I asked the salesmen why ****** he said that it was something that we never talked about and it's auto pay and there's a 40 dollar charge for not signng up for it, and the same with the extra AEP bill 30 some dollars then 200 somthing from them and a 93 something and I was informed of all this was said and done. I feel that this is a breach of contract and that I have been lied to about and throughout this whole process they dont answer call they mysteriously hang up or some how disconnected you from their end. I'm really ****** over the procedure, lies sick of it all.Business Response

********** is one of the financial partners we work with to provide solar panel systems. The customer signed their ********** agreement on June 4, 2024, using the same email address listed here. This agreement clearly outlines their monthly payment obligations and acknowledges that they will continue to receive a bill from their utility provider.
The total amount of their utility bill is independent of both Ambia and Everbright, as many factors influence it, including energy consumption patterns, utility rate changes, weather conditions, and seasonal usage.
Additionally, ********** conducts an introductory call with every customer to review the monthly payment terms, the agreement details, and the fact that they may still receive charges from their utility provider if additional power is needed.Initial Complaint

Door to door salesmen ignored my No Soliciting sign and used very deceptive sales tactics like telling me Rocky Mountain will increase my bill unless I "opt-out" with Ambia Energy, which involved setting up a time to speak to a sales representative. Ignoring trespassing signs is illegal.Business Response

On July 24, 2024, we signed a contract with Ambia Solar for the installation of solar panels. They began the electrical work just days before Labor Day weekend to replace and upgrade our electrical panel as stated in our contract. During the installation, we were without power for over 12 hours because they had to call in three additional electricians who were unable to connect everything successfully.Once we regained power, we were informed that they would return on September 6, 2024. However, no workers showed up. In the meantime, my family and I continued with our daily lives. On October 8, I called Ambia to inquire about the status of our panel installation, as per our contract, which stated that the panels should have been installed, inspected, and operational by ****** of November 19, 2024, our home failed the solar panel inspection. The inspector noted several deficiencies in the installation, one of which was the removal of the ground from our home during the electrical panel installation, which jeopardized my family's safety. We have made several attempts to contact the company but have received no communication throughout this entire process about what work still needs to be completed, when workers would be coming, or the re-inspection date. The customer service has been nonexistent, and we would often find random individuals at our door or in our yard when we were not home.I am extremely disappointed in our experience as consumers. We trusted Ambia Solar with our home in an effort to contribute to preserving our planet and natural resources. It feels as though Ambia is only interested in filling their sales quotas. We have paid $37,000 for panels that, as of January 3, 2025, remain non-operational.Business Response

I had a salesman named Trent come to my door in July. Right off the bat I told him I could not afford any other bills and told me I would not have any additional bills just a bill SWAP. That I would go from paying one company for my electric and to paying another company and it would be cheaper. He said it was because Duquesne light had received grant money to put solar panels on so many homes to help offset their work load. He used his tablet and signed me up for this program himself. Then he asked me to sign the these documents. I ask questions regarding some of the things I didn't understand in the document. (It was 44 pages and he claimed to not have time for me to read it all so he "summarized") he told me the $141 payment was the bill that would fluctuate based on my solar use. And that the .19 cents was how much they would charge or pay me per kwh. When I asked him about the fact that it said I would be getting 2 bills he said that I would have to keep Duquesne light because they are who the solar power is going through but that the bill should never be more than 10-15dollars for their "fees". The project to install everything was complete November 1st and I got PTO on that day. I was initially billed on November 12 and then on the 19th my bill when up by another 102 dollars. I was confused and called Duquesne and was told they had two bills that were on different days. I was confused but assumed it had to do with the solar panels just going into effect. So I paid it. I got an email the day after i paid DL at 8am saying my bill was coming soon. After logging in i saw $141 dollars was due the very next day. I didnt get any notice except the email I called Lightreach asking why i was receiving 2 electric bills and was toldbI was paying to USE the solar panels and Duquesne charged me for usage. I was told by Trent all that was covered by grant money. I was lied to. I now pay more than I ever did for my electric. I can't afford it. Now no one returns my calls.Business Response

The expectations for the customer’s solar system are outlined in the written agreement that was signed by the customer on July 27th, 2024. The agreement outlines an estimated production amount to be sold to the customer and notes that the customer will still receive a bill from their utility company that will include fees and any excessive consumption charges.Customer Answer

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because:As I have emailed and called multiple times that when the salesman came to the door we went over the contract and my questions however the man explained the wording in the contract differently than what I am experiencing. While yes it does say I will get two bills I was told the bill from Duquense Light would be no more than 15 dollars a month and that the bill of $141 would fluctuate based on my consumption. However after recently reaching out to Palmetto and Lightreach that bill is a loan that I am paying for 25 years to pay for the solar panels and after that 25 years they will be mine. Something that was NEVER told to me nor is that lined out in the contract. I never would have applied for a loan. I was told EVERYTHING was paid for by a grant Duquesne Light received and that all I had to do was pay for my consumption. That is not what is happening. I was lied to in order to get me to sign the contract. I was told I had ten days to cancel however it was 3 months before everything was active and I start receiving the bills. The tactics to get me to sign were predatory and deceptive. There are other people on my block going through the same thing and it was also on the news. The company is thriving on deceptive practices and do not return calls or emails to assist in the matters they created because they know they are in the wrong. I see a class action lawsuit in Ambias future.
Sincerely,
******* *****Business Response

As stated, the contract was presented to the customer at the time of sale, with all relevant information clearly available. The customer's responsibility regarding cancellation was outlined on the first page of the contract as well as the responsibilities for payment, and utility offset. A copy of the contract has been provided to the customer and can be made available here upon request. The customer's responsibilities for payment, cancellation, and guarantees are explicitly detailed in the contract.Customer Answer

On September 17, 2024, Ambia Solar installed solar panels on my property. During the installation, they dug a large trench in my yard, cut a hole in my drywall, and left a gap in my siding. Despite this disruption, the solar panels are not operational, and I am now responsible for both my electricity bill and the first payment on a $29,000 loan for the panels. This is unacceptable, as I am paying for a system that is not functional while my property remains damaged. I have contacted Ambia Solar to address these issues but have not received a satisfactory resolution. I am seeking prompt repairs to my property, the activation of the solar panels, and a resolution for the financial burden caused by their delays.Business Response

I had Ambia Solar install my 2nd solar system. It took almost a year to get the from start to finish, I complained on how the system was hooked up to the first solar system, I had concerns the system would crash, I did not pay for the to connect to the other system they should have separate programs (systems) Well Aug 19, 2024 not even a month worth of the system running, it stop but one the 2nd system but both systems stop working. now I have 2 solar bills and an ele bill should not of happen. I have email the company several times no reply back, I called and finally got a hold of someone, and they told me they do not know when someone will be out, this is so wrong, I want them out and to fix what they have done, and take care of my ele bill until it is fixed correctly and running.Business Response

Ambia Solar hasn't received any emails from her regarding this matter. We only have record of Ms. Casselman calling into our team on 9/11 that the system wasn't working. We created a field service case so we can schedule a time to troubleshooting her system. We always remotely troubleshoot the system before sending a service tech to the home. Additionally, her original system is not tied to our system, they are two separate systems. If her original system also quit working she will need to contact the company that installed them as we cannot touch another companies electrical work.Initial Complaint

When the two gentlemen Gage and ***** came out to talk to us about solar we explain to them that we would be selling our house and we were told at that point in time that if we needed to remove the panels it would be no problem they would come out and remove the panels and fix the roof and it would cost us nothing they also told us that since we were going to be moving that they could also see if the new owners would want to buy the panels they told us that the only thing that we would be paying for would be just the cost of the wattage hours we have since found out that all of that was a lie and we are now having trouble selling our house because nobody wants to take on a 25-year loan for the solar panels which we were not told about which comes out to about ****** on top of paying for a house we have recently spoken with both gentlemen that came out here one has quit the company and the other even told our real estate agent that we shouldn't just take the first bid on our house and to let him talk to the customers as he could sell them on the solar panels he also said during our last phone call that everything he told us was true that if we sold the house and the customer didn't want that that he would make sure that they come and picked up the panels and all the equipment at no charge to us they also told us that at no point in time would we pay for anything except the wattage usage they did not tell us that there would be a loan company my husband had just gotten over having skin cancer and we feel that they are not a truthful company or at least the two salesmen as since we have spoken to both of them ***** says it's Gage's fault **** says it's *****'s faults but we were lied to about these solar panels we were lied to about being able to move out of our house and sell it if there's anything you can do or anything you could point us in the right direction that would be amazingBusiness Response

After major problems with installation and activation of the system almost a year ago, here we are again. Our roof is in need of repairs, and a month ago I scheduled and paid for the removal and reinstallation of the panels in order to maintain the warranty. The date was confirmed, and two weeks before the date I messaged them to re-confirm the date I was told everything was ready to go.The day arrived... No calls, no messages. After talking to customer services multiple times they finally told us that the removal wasn't actually on the schedule for the confirmed date, or at all. So now I have to delay and reschedule all other contractors and pay those fees, because Ambia failed to schedule a confirmed date. This is of course after accepting payment up front.Business Response

We addressed the problems with the customer and had a resolution for him on 6/19/24 where the panels were removed. We had some internal miscommunication and nobody contacted the customer about the original date needing to be rescheduled. His panel reinstallation is scheduled for 7/1/24 for this customer's project to be complete.Customer Answer
