Coinstar at ******* #**** took my money and gave me a receipt for much less than I put in. Machine went out of order due to a jam and would not continue counting. ******* employee tried to help, we called coinstars help line and they were very unhelpful and essentially told me I was out of luck. I needed the money and they kept it. It should be a crime but was not enough money for me to make a scene.Initial Complaint

I have used coinstar multiple times over the last 15 plus years. We have a coin jar the family uses to dump their loose coins. It takes about 2 years to fill the jar at which point we take it to a coinstar machine or bank and cash in the coins. It is a decent sized jar and there has consistently been around $450 -$500. I went to the King ******* on ********* and ********* in *********, ******** on October 8th and began pouring my coins in the machine. About halfway through I could hear a clunking sound, as if the coins were dropping into a different part of the machine. I continued to pour the coins but the total stayed at $299.16. I assumed the machine would catch up. The jar was close to empty when an error message popped up. I went to the customer service desk and they opened the machine. There were lots of loose coins in the bottom and the manager said a piece of plastic had gotten stuck. I explained what happened and he said he couldnt do anything since they didnt own the machine. He filed a claim for me - I conservatively told him I lost at least $100. We were told an audit would have to be done and it would take at least 3 weeks. I have since followed up with coinstar on my claim. They have not been able to tell me how they would be able to verify what I lost other than they would conduct an audit. Today I was told the audit did not support my claim. I asked for documentation to verify their claim and they are unable to produce this. They stated they called me many times and their calls went to voicemail. I have received 2 calls and called back both times. I told them this is a word vs word situation. As a regulator this is very concerning. I have since read complaint after complaint and am seeing a pattern. The machines freeze and break down during coins being processed and Coinstar claims the consumer did not lose any money. I have a solid feeling for how much coins our jar holds and know my claim was valid if not conservative. Seems very unethical!Initial Complaint

On 10.29.2024 I used a Coinstar at Winco foods. I attempted to redeem the voucher at *********** however the customer service was closed and no employee could redeem the voucher. I contacted Coinstar and was told I must go back to the location despite the fact that I told Coinstar that I do not live near the location. Going back to the location is not possible. After explaining this I asked to speak to a supervisor and was hung up on. I called back, gave all my information and a supervisor was supposed to call me and did not. At this point Coinstar is simply keeping the money I put into the machine. Coinstar should provide a gift certificate for the full amount of $15.75 or mail a check for the cash amount.Initial Complaint

A man posing as an officer called and threatened to arrest me for missing a court date. The scam escalated from there. I was instructed to pull out cash and go to a coinstar, as these are used nationwide. I was instructed to stay on the phone for the duration, and inevitably withdrew 1000$ to send via coinstar. I have contacted the authorities and bank with no avail. I am hopeful filing this claim may help. I am desperate.Initial Complaint

Subject: Urgent: Investigation Request for Coinstar Kiosk Incident at ******* ************** *******,I am writing to formally request an investigation into a troubling incident involving the Coinstar kiosk at *******, located at ******************************. On July 21, 2024, around 8:50 PM EST, I encountered significant issues with the kiosk while attempting to process my coins. After inserting my coins, the machine began counting but halted unexpectedly after a nominal amount. I reported the malfunction to a ******* employee and contacted Coinstar customer service. Unfortunately, there was a lack of clear communication between ******* and Coinstar, which resulted in a frustrating experience. The machine had to be disassembled to retrieve a substantial portion of my coins, and I was informed that I would be contacted by either a Coinstar representative or ******* to recover the remaining coins stuck in the machine.I find it concerning that the machine counted out exactly $1.17, comprising 4 quarters, 2 dimes, 2 *******, and 31 pennies. This precise and unusual total, along with the worn and discolored receipt, raises suspicions. My previous experience with Coinstar kiosks has been consistent with clean and clearly printed receipts.Additionally, I have previously filed a complaint with the ************************************ (*****) regarding suspicious markings on items, which has heightened my concern about potential irregularities.I kindly request that you investigate this incident thoroughly and provide me with an update on the status of the remaining coins. I would appreciate it if a member of the leadership team could contact me directly to address this issue.Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.Sincerely,******* ***** I do have images of what the machine looked like pulled out and with the coins stuck in it.Initial Complaint

I deposited coins into the coinstar machine at the *******, WA *******. The total was $189.13 as seen in the attachment. The machine then froze on that screen (thus why I took the screenshot). After a bit, it changed to a black screen with DOS type text. We checked with the store that said to call the number on the machine. Spent about an hour on the phone with coinstar while he tried to remotely fix the machine, nothing changed. Said would send out a technician and we could pick up our money in the store the next day. Visited the store and the machine is still on that black screen, no technician, no money. Called the store again today, still no technician, still broken machine, and still no money. Called coinstar again and was told would work on it. It has now been 4 days since I put money in your machine and was given no receipt and no resolution even with calls and emails. I would like to be send my money $189.13
