I signed up (was conned) for this group (****** chapter) in Sept., 2022. The "interview" is a complete bait and switch where they make you provide way too much information (drivers license and more). You're also suckered into a two year contract that is only eligible to cancel after 3 days (not enough time to attend an event because they're usually full). I went to a few events the first month only to quickly realize that there were mostly old, ugly, and sad people who attended. I found out through talking to people that some of them weren't even single. I soon found out that not only are you paying an exorbitant monthly fee ($170+), but for most of the events, you end up paying an additional fee that is the equivalent to doing it by yourself. The trips are a joke, they only plan for very few people and they fill up within minutes. If you change your credit card number and do not update it, they will threaten to throw you in collections. This "service" is a total scam and a joke. They should be taken back to court for a class action lawsuit and shut down.

*********************** signed up with Events and Adventures on September 6th, 2022 with a 24 month membership.  We received her first communication regarding canceling her membership in February of 2023.  Per the membership agreement that was signed she was outside her three day cancellation window:

We sell our membership as it appears in the contract *********************** signed. We offer at least 15 events per month in each of our cities. We have free events available as well as more extravagant events that do require an additional cost for members to attend. This information is provided in the interview process. The members have access to the website which shows all of our events. They freely review the events and sign up for whatever events theyre interested in, taking advantage of the membership.

It is entirely up to the potential member whether they sign and agree to our agreement. They have time to read over the agreement before deciding to sign during their interview with us. We did reach out to *********************** to discuss options for her account, she will need to work with our Resolutions Specialist to resolve her account. We will have her city event manager reach out to her with better options for events to attend in her age group.

I wish to cancel my membership from the club. I agreed to pay for ***** but I do not want to be a member anymore. I was lied to during the application process about how there would be quality singles in this club. I was also told that there would be events in the suburbs. Most are in the city. I do not want to continue paying for a membership with this club and I am not asking for a refund of what I already have spent. I just dont want to be charged as I will not be participating in any events in the future. It is a scam that they feel like they can charge you for a service youre not even using. I want my account to be closed and my card to no longer be charged. Thank you for your time!

      Complaint: 19865989

I am rejecting this response because:

the options that they have provided are asking me to pay for a club that I will no longer be participating in. They are asking for me to pay them for something I will not be using. They don't get to just take my money for something. They did not hold up their end of the contract. They did not provide what they said they were going to. I wish to terminate any and all participation going forward and they have given options to:

      1. Freeze my membership but still have to pay. Why would I do that option... I am trying to quit. Not extend my time with this scam.

      2. Pay $1,500 as a settlement. Again, not trying to give them any more money than I already have. I simply wish to cancel this membership.

      3. Adjust my payment to $65/month but eventually making me pay the "full amount owed". I am not paying the "full amount owed" so this option isn't going to work.

I am not going to be paying for something I am not going to use. I understand that I am unable to obtain a refund but I am not asking for such. I am asking that they stop charging my card for something I am not using. I am not happy with the club. They are not delivering on the things that they promised in the contract and therefore the contract is invalid and unenforceable.

This is the biggest scam I have ever been conned into. The "interview" makes you think you're making it into an exclusive club worth the EXORBITANT price, when in reality they'll let in anyone who can pay. I was told that there were young singles in the area who joined and that there were plenty of free events. There is a $2450+ total fee PLUS $30 a month I was not told about (only hidden in the contract) AND every non-virtual event (and even some virtual) cost the same as it would to go on my own. The members were all much older than me. I was completely lied to and tried to give it a shot but it was awful. I felt creeped out by the people they let join. I went to a couple of events to give it due-diligence, but if you go to an event YOU ARE NOT ELLIGIBLE TO CANCEL!! This company tries to get a ton of money for a service that has absolutely no value, and markets it SO falsely to be something it is not. I am now left with a choice, to "Cancel" and still owe $1550 OR reduce payments and still owe the full amount plus every monthly fee on top. The "settlement" must be made in a maximum of four payments. They DO NOT CARE if you hate their services, you are not allowed out for ANY reason (barring medical I think) AND if you happen to get married while still under your membership term you are disallowed from attending any events and still expected to pay all the fees for the rest of whatever length membership you signed on to. They do not care about you, they put no effort into the events, they overcharge for simple events you can access for less or even free on your own, and you have no way out. I would be ashamed to work for this company, and everyone I have spoken to has spoken to me with pedantry to make me feel less than, or unintelligent. It is an abomination and honestly should not be able to operate on this scam system.

At its surface, Events & Adventures seems like a great way for single people to meet other single people - under the surface it's a scam galore. I expected there to be a membership subscription for events, shows, meetups, etc., but I was not ready to be stonewalled when I wanted to cancel my membership. I decided to cancel after gaining access to their website, which looks like it was made in ****, only to find that the events I wanted to sign up for cost MORE money - which was not conveyed to me during my presentation from someone who was reading from a script and using terms of endearment to sweeten the deal. I can understand trips costing more money, but why doesn't the $150 monthly fee cover parking, food, cooking classes, tickets, etc.? According to the $2,475 contract they made me sign to get access to their calendar of events, I had three days to cancel my membership from the date of the contract - the one catch: you have to send them a written letter by mail. How convenient! What year is this? ****? So, on March 8th, two days after signing the contract, I sent a letter to their PO Box in ****, ** (standard mail - my second mistake - the first was signing up). After several days passed, I realized I had not heard back so I decided to search for others' experiences with canceling their memberships with E&A. I found out rather quickly that I would not be getting out of this scam since I signed a janky contract. I emailed their main email address and the next day I received a response from a representative simply asking if I "had a tracking number." I knew then and there that I wasn't going to be getting out of this since it's likely my mail either got lost or, more likely, discarded to keep me in the contract. There's no way to ever know at this point - I should have sent certified! Simple as that. Since emailing the representative I have not heard back. Due to their archaic cancellation policy, I'm trapped in a scam for an entire year.

This company scammed myself and anyone that signs up. They try to get the maximum amount of money upfront and then try to lock you into a contact. I've gone to maybe 3 events and do not use their services yet they continue to change me and will not allow me to break the contact. They say they are going to charge me $100/month for 3 years. I've tried to resolve it with them to no avail. This business is a complete scam. I signed up with them May 23, 2022 and am owed at least $1,100 in compensation. I do not use their service at all and cannot cancel it.

I joined after an aggressive sales pitch had me paying abut two and a half thousand dollars for a year and a half of membership. Unfortunately, I have multiple sclerosis and it was getting worse and I couldn't get to the events. I called to explain that it made my health using my membership impossible. I attended two functions and used two months of time. This was a week ago. They treated me brusquely. As soon as I made it clear I was trying to cancel, they cancelled me immediately, and only afterwards, when I asked about it, did they clarify that no refund would occur, ignoring my requests about it save to clarify that this was not happening. They left the email conversation hanging, and have yet to reply to my last question.

This company preys on people and locks them into a contract when they are not able to think straight due to trauma. They they promise things that are impossible to get you to sign. This company needs a serious review as to their practice and tactics. Reading the reviews here and on ****** they are filled with the same complaints. Shady business tactics. Eventually I do see them getting sued with a class action for not providing services as explained in their sales pitches. And when that happens I hope to get my credit score repaired by their aggressive nature and pushy tactics.

I paid over $7,000 between 2019-2020 for an international trip that was supposed to be in March 2021. Two months into the pandemic in May 2020, the organization booked flights on behalf of the attendees of this trip. Due to the pandemic, the trip had to be rescheduled twice. We were told the airline wouldn't issue a refund or allow us to reschedule, so we were each expected to pay for the error of the organization (another $1,300). The trip is now scheduled for March 2023, so I just sent them the $1,300 for new flights. I would have been okay with splitting the cost, but Events & Adventures is taking zero responsibility.

******************** signed up for our Antarctica *************** on November 21st, 2019. The original air fare was included in the full trip price at sign up. The trip was originally scheduled to take place on March 24th, 2021. Due to the effects of Covid on the world, the company we were using to book the cruise through canceled our original trip dates. As ***** has had a lasting effect on businesses over a couple of years, we had multiple instances where the rescheduled trip was canceled. The airline tickets originally booked were non transferable, thus we were unable to recoup any of the air ticket cost.

We had to book all new airfare for all attending members for the new trip date taking place on March 23rd, 2023. We did give our members the option to either book their own airfare, or have us book the airfare for them. ******************** chose for us to book her airfare for her, hence the extra cost. We are thankful there should not be any canceling or rescheduling of trips going forward. If ******************** has any further questions regarding this trip, our Trip Manager ****** would be her best point of contact.

In the beginning, he was going to find out what can be done to help us out such as a membership extension, but nothing was ever provided. It was a poor decision to book these ********* months into the pandemic and almost a year before the trip was to take place, so E&A should take some responsibility.

This company states terms verbally but changes. The cancelation part says I can cancel if I haven't attended any of the activities on the calendar. I asked for the cancelation and now it's "Oh that is within 3 days" and that's not what I was told. Now it's Oh I have to pay to cancel my membership that I have never used.
