I am writing to formally address several issues concerning the purchase of a Subaru Forester SV (VIN *****************) from an individual named ******************* on 6/29/2024.Given that the vehicle had a restored salvage title, I sought additional assurance by employing LemonSquad, a company specializing in pre-purchase vehicle inspections, to ensure the vehicle's safety.LemonSquad charges $219.99 per vehicle inspection. They conducted inspections on two vehicles for me a used ***** and the Subaru Forester mentioned abovecharging a total of approximately $440. It is important to note that the mechanic did not perform a test drive for either vehicle. The inspection for the Subaru Forester occurred on June 27, 2024, and did not reveal any immediate safety concerns.Following this, I proceeded with the purchase of the vehicle on June 29, 2024, paying $14,000 to Mr. ****************** during the drive from ****** to my home in ************, we observed some leakage from under the vehicle. The next day, when the car failed to start, I had it examined by a local mechanic who determined that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The safety sensors, including the front display, were non-functional.As the vehicle was not safe to drive, it remained at the mechanics shop from June 30, 2024, until early August 2024. I incurred costs amounting to $1,431.97 to make the vehicle drivable and am awaiting a quote of $1,040.76 for a backordered display part that remains unavailable.1. Failure of LemonSquad to perform a test drive, which could have identified issues with the vehicle. I have also filed a separate claim with my credit card company regarding this matter.2. Inaccurate assurances from LemonSquad, which led me to purchase a faulty vehicle, thereby endangering my family and resulting in significant financial loss.3. The lack of response and cooperation from LemonSquad when I brought these issues to their attention.Business Response

Hello,
Wrench, ***** d/b/a Lemon Squad (Wrench) has reviewed ******************** complaint. ************************* requested Wrench to inspect a 2020 Subaru Forester. Wrench completed the inspection on June 27, 2024 and provided the report to ************************* the same day.
Wrench included over 35 photos of the vehicle from different angles in the report. When the inspector scanned the vehicle for DTC codes, the results returned clear. Notes regarding the vehicle's tires, exterior, interior, and mechanical performance are included in the report as well.
Wrenchs inspector was not given permission to test drive the car by the owner. The owner also refused to drive the vehicle with the inspector as a passenger. Wrench cannot force the owner of the vehicle to allow a test drive. This was noted in the inspection report.
According to Wrenchs Terms and Conditions, Wrench does not create any warranty for any vehicle a customer may purchase and that the right to recover for any defects in the vehicle, whether or not disclosed in a report produced by Wrench, is limited to any warranty the seller may offer. Wrench is declining to provide a refund for the inspections and reimbursement for any repairs.
If ************************* has any concerns regarding the inspection of the second car, they are welcome to email Wrench at ****************************************** for assistance.
Thank you,

I am rejecting this response because:1. The fact that you were not allowed to test drive the vehicle is summarily false as noted in the conversation provided above.
2. Given the businesss misrepresentation of its services, a complaint has now been filed with the office of Arizona Attorney General (AZ Attorney General Complaint CIC# **-014348)
3. An update was made to the credit card agency regarding above as well, in dispute of the charges made by the company along the same lines as well.
4. If the company takes no responsibility for its inspections and misrepresents itself by claiming it wasnt allowed a test drive when in fact the mechanic was offered one by the seller and declined to do so/didnt pursue the drive misrepresents its services offered and does endanger the prospective buyer with false reassurances of the service provided.
5. The company further declined to cooperate when asked to refund the charges made for such inspection by not responding to my emails for several weeks (refer to picture - last email was on 7/3/** and a reminder was sent on 8/20/** without any response from lemonsquad).
Sincerely,

On Sun 8/11/24, I ordered an inspection of a 2013 *** X3 that I'd test driven the day before. The vehicle was 1.5 hours from where I lived. The site stated that inspections ordered after hours or on the weekend would take about two business days to complete. The site said that an inspector was assigned on 8/12/24. That day, I called and spoke with the seller to put a $200 deposit hold on the vehicle for 2 days. Lemon Squad's (LS) site updated that day to say that the inspection *** was now 8/14/24 (more than the two business days). I called the seller on 8/13/24 to discuss putting down another deposit. They said my deposit would not need to be renewed until Wed so I would be fine. However, they said that they hadn't heard from LS. On 8/14/24, I received an update from Lemon Squad saying that the *** was updated to 8/15/24 because the seller was unresponsive. That was false. Each time I contacted them, they answered or called me right back. The inspector clearly had not called them yet. Thurs came and went with no updates from LS. Their site and no-reply email said to use their chat/messenger function, but there was none. So, I contacted the seller to pay another $100 to hold the car. The seller still had not heard from LS. Then, on 8/16/24, I received an email from LS saying that an appt was scheduled with the seller for that afternoon. By that time, I refused to pay any more deposits for a car that I wasn't sure would be a lemon but hoped it wouldn't sell. On Sat morning, I got an email saying the appt was rescheduled again to 8/17/24. I called LS that afternoon to voice my concern and seek a refund if the inspection wasn't done. Magically, the inspection was then completed, but I'd still have to wait for the report. I then learned that the car had sold that same day. Their remedy is only to inspect a new car if the one you're interested in sells prior to inspection or issue a refund 90 days later. Absolutely unacceptable business practice.Business Response

Hello,
Wrench, ***** d/b/a Lemon Squad (Wrench) has reviewed Chynna Byrds complaint. Wrench was requested to complete a pre-purchase vehicle inspection. An ETA of August 14, 2024 was provided as the inspection date. However, Wrench was unable to contact the vehicle owner to establish the appointment time. Wrench was able to confirm an inspection date of August 16, 2024, but the vehicle owner rescheduled the appointment to August 17, 2024.
Per Wrenchs Terms and Conditions, all sales are final for inspection jobs ordered on the Lemon Squad website. I paid for a vehicle to be inspected. They set an ETA for the inspection. I asked the seller if they contacted him and he stated no. This has happened multiple times with Lemon Squad saying they spoke to him when they had not. I didn't want to lose the vehicle so I found a local car shop to do the inspection and paid out of pocket for that company. I tried to call Lemon Squad and left a voicemail, which they never returned my call. They finally called when the inspector finally called my seller and I had the seller tell them to call me. Now they are saying the vehicle I am trying to purchase is sold. It is not. They have been terrible. I have screenshots of the conversation with the seller and how he was never contacted, if needed. Terrible business and terrible customer service.Business Response

Hello,
LemonSquad has reviewed ******************** complaint. *************************** scheduled LemonSquad to perform a pre-purchase inspection on a recreational vehicle. LemonSquad inspected the vehicle on May 23, 2024. A comprehensive report was provided to *************************** which included over 200 images of the vehicle and detailed notes.
Aside from some minor rust under the vehicle, the inspector did not find any operational flaws and noted as such in the report. The inspector was taken on a test drive of the vehicle with the owner and found it performed well at highway speeds. One image from the report shows oil residue from under the vehicle. This type of residue is normal. No leaks were found.
Because the oil residue was only shown in the images and not explained in the report, LemonSquad has provided a partial refund of $200.00 to ***************************. Refunds can take up to 7-10 business days to process. If *************************** has any additional questions about the report or the refund, they can contact LemonSquad at ***********************************.

I ordered a classic car inspection which was completed on 4/18. The inspection was in **** AZ. That report I received showed no mechanical issues or concerns. The video I received called the car a "10/10" and a "real beauty". I purchased the car and it was loaded on to transport to ** the following day. Upon receiving the car and starting it, immediately a check engine light came on. The next day when I was able to check the oil (before it was even driven) I noticed the oil was BLACK. I also noticed chalk markings from a junk yard on the engine. I took the car the same day to have the oil changed and the tech verified that not only was the oil black, it was also burnt, and sludgy. Additionally, when the tech checked the fluids there was absolutely no coolant in the radiator. At this point the car had been driven a total of 3.6 miles, from my home to the shop. I took the vehicle the next day to have an emissions test conducted and the vehicle failed emissions, showing code P2646. To fix the code, solenoid screen was cleaned (again filled with sludge) solenoid was replaced and Vtech sensor was replaced. Two weeks later (now driven 280 miles) the car overheated. Again no fluid in the radiator. After draining the cooling system it was discovered that previous owners had placed a head gasket sealant in the engine (fragments were in the fluid) that had then migrated into the cooling system and clogged it. On top of the fixes before mentioned, the car needs a new engine and heater core. I have already spent over $1600 in repairs. A used engine is $2250, heater core is $1400. I am aware the inspection does not do a compression test, or guarantee emissions, or engine quality. However, knowing the oil is black and sludgy or the radiator doesn't have fluid, or the engine has markings from a junk yard would have stopped me from purchasing the car and now being stuck with over $5000 in repairs. I have contacted this company via phone and email, with no reply.Business Response

Hello,
LemonSquad has reviewed ********************** complaint. ************************* scheduled LemonSquad to perform a pre-purchase vehicle inspection. LemonSquad completed the inspection as requested on April 18, 2024.
Inspections include several images along with detailed notes about any issues found on the vehicle. LemonSquad provided over 100 images of the vehicle. During the inspection, the inspector confirmed all the fluids were full and clean and no leaks were present while the vehicle was running. No check engine light or warning lights were on and when the vehicle was scanned for codes, no DTC codes were present. There are also three videos of the vehicle which explain the condition of it.
LemonSquad did not document the vehicle as a 10/10. LemonSquad does not score vehicles in this manner. The inspector did document that the vehicle ran and handled well during the test drive regardless of the few issues that were found. Chalk markings on the engine could mean internal engine repairs were performed. It does not always mean the engine was replaced. In the report, LemonSquad noted that some cylinder head cover bolts were missing. Also, LemonSquad noted the brakes and exhaust had some rust. None of these issues affected the performance of the car during the test drive.
Per the terms and conditions found at ****************************************, all sales are final unless otherwise determined by LemonSquad. LemonSquad reports are a reflection of the vehicle at the time of the inspection. LemonSquad is not responsible for the condition of the vehicle after its purchased. ********************** request for a refund is being declined. If they have any questions, they can contact LemonSquad at ***********************************.

I ordered a report for options listed on my car, as the dealership where the car is located needs evidence of it’s options, example is it a COPO central production GM car? Why did the car come with a fiberglass hood and a high output motor, why did the car come with extra thick sway bars. Underbody check for any signs of rust or damage
Condition of tires and wheels
Glass exam for cracks or other flaws
Previous accident damage and previous flood damage

If possible, assuming the vehicle is street legal and safe weather conditions exist, the entire drive train performance is evaluated with a road test
List of things that were wrong with the inspection- Never checked the vehicle through the obd2 port
2022 chevy camaro with 23K miles, I was told that the paint was in great condition given the year and mileage. There are scratches down to the metal in several locations.
The seller of the vehicle stated that the "mechanic" that was sent to do the inspection never checked any of the fluids or looked for oil leaks.
The mechanic never looked at the brakes, suspension, or the exhause (which i found out after purchasing the car the exhaust had been cut right behind the muffler.)
The "mechanic" never checked under the vehicle for rust as stated in the services provided.
Road Test was not completed due to lemon squad sending out a "mechanic" that could not drive a manual VehicleBusiness Response

Hello,
Wrench, ***** d/b/a Lemon Squad (Wrench) has reviewed *********************** complaint. ***************************** requested Wrench to perform a pre-purchase vehicle inspection. Wrench completed the inspection on March 19, 2024. Wrench reviewed the report for accuracy then provided ***************************** a copy of the report the same day.
Wrench performed a thorough inspection of the vehicle which included more than 60 photos of the vehicle from different angles. Wrenchs report documented many of the concerns ***************************** noted as issues in their complaint.
Wrenchs inspection report goes over the imperfections such as scratches. Notes regarding the vehicles fluid level were documented. There were no obvious fluid leaks. Brakes, suspension, and tires were verified to be in good condition. Images in the report confirm these details.
Because the owner of the vehicle was not comfortable with the inspector driving their car, the owner of the car test drove the vehicle with the inspector as the passenger. The inspector included notes of the test drive in the report.
Wrench is declining to provide a refund for the report because a thorough pre-purchase inspection report was provided. If ***************************** has any questions about the inspection, they can contact Wrench at ******************************************.

I purchased a car inspection through Lemon Squad on June 23, 2023 for $298.98. Shortly thereafter, within a day or so, circumstances changed and I no longer needed the service. I called to request a refund and was told that if I did not use the service within 3 months of the purchase date, a refund would automatically go back to my credit card. I did not receive a refund within 3 months, so I called again on March 15, 2024. I was told that Lemon Squad couldn't deliver an immediate refund to my credit card as their system does not hold on to credit card information for that long, so they would need to issue me a refund in the form of a check instead, and it would take 2 weeks to do that. It is now another month later and I have received nothing. I called again yesterday, April 17, and was told that there was an error in processing, and my refund check has not been processed. I asked to speak to a manager and was given an email address instead. I emailed the address and received a reply the same day saying it will be another 6 weeks to get the refund check processed. It has now been nearly 10 months since I requested a refund, and nearly 7 months since that refund was promised. No organization can be so dysfunctional that it takes this much time to process a basic refund. It is clear they are giving me the run-around and have no intention of ever returning my money.Business Response

On 3/18/2024, an inspection was completed on a vehicle I was considering purchasing. The inspector gave the 72 LeMans such a glowing report that I decided to purchase it. However, upon receiving the car, it was not as depicted in the photos or the inspector's write-up. Here is what I noticed, and my mechanic has noticed as well.1. No seatbelts were noted anywhere on the report.2. The wipers did not work because the car had no wiring harness to the wiper motor 3. No Blinkers and no hazard lights 4. Two holes in the fuel tank (You can smell the fuel)5. The tail lights were not working 6. All upper and lower ball joints were bad. Due to all of the above, I cannot register my car because it would fail the ***************** safety inspection. I would not have purchased the vehicle if the abovementioned things were included in the report.Business Response

Hello,

*********************** was sold a restored and modified vehicle which the seller informed *********************** of before it was purchased. The report included 160 images and seven videos of the vehicle. Multiple angles from inside and outside of the vehicle were provided. Including images of the seats and engine. The test drive for the vehicle was completed by the seller who indicated that lights were functioning during the test drive. The seller also informed Lemon Squad that *********************** asked for different headlights to be installed from what was already on the vehicle during the inspection. During Lemon Squads conversation with the seller, they indicated that the replacement lights were already shipped to ***********************.

BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.
As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
