1 starI was done wrong by a host and the company never helped me. They went against their own policies and said it was up to the host to refund. They do not protect the rights of the consumers, even in cases of discrimination and even with photo evidence. They let hosts get away with maltreatment and lies.Review fromDavid C

1 starWatch out! The worst experience ever. I will not do business with VRBO because of misleading description on property and the worst customer support. We rented a property from VRBO. The property host claimed it could host up to five people. After we arrived and realized the property it was a storage cabin and only 240 sqft (to be comfortable, 400 sqft/guest is needed) In addition, the property didn't have a fire exit, a safety concern. After making our complaints to VRBO customer supports, they didn't do anything other than kicking the ball around. Wasting my time and efforts. A very similar case happened to Airbnb, they refunded customers with full credits.*** Don't use VRBO.Review fromRAFAEL F

1 starTerrible service!I've been doing Airbnb for a little while now and I decided to give it a shot to the VRBO.Today was the checkout of my very first guest.Although they left the place semi-clean, they brought a dog without disclosing, and the dog peed on the bed and all over the floor of the master bedroom. As I'm used to the quick and easy resolution process from Airbnb, I wasn't so worried about this one.I could be more wrong!Turns out they said I didn't set up the protection plan (I didn't even know I had to set it up). There were no alerts or reminders about setting this thing.Because of that, they said I was not covered. And I would have to cover for the cost unless the guest agreed to pay.The gues already lied about having the pet and is objecting to paying for anything. The app on the phone does not give all options, like escalate or chat with customer service, so I had to call.It was only a waste of my time. They said that I have two options for protection.1- would be insurance for $59, $79 to $99, which are not refundable to the guest. This makes my listing more expensive and less competitive. Also, if I have to file a claim, it would have to be done through a 3rd party company. For emergencies, like I have today, would not be much of a help, and no guarantee of coverage.2- I could set a deposit amount for any amount I wish. This deposit is refundable to the guest, but if the damages are higher than the deposit, I would be on my own to cover the rest. This deposit makes my listing even more expensive out the door and offers me less coverage. On the call with customer service, I requested to talk to a supervisor. I was told that the supervisors don't answer calls, and it could only be scheduled for ***** hours. The app itself is not user-friendly, and the process is not clear on what we as hosts have to do to make sure we are covered.Due to the horrible experience, I will pull my listing out of the platform.I have already contacted other hosts to tReview fromAngela H

1 starAs a responsible property owner I'm advising any owner to avoid VRBO like the plague if you value your property and/or expect to be paid when tenants stay in your property!!! VRBO will repeatedly email tenants to pay in advance making them think it's the owner requesting payment and it's NOT. Then they will either hold funds for weeks and not pay you or tell you you're going to get paid after the tenants leaves and then don't pay you. When you call their ************** that's not US based, their answer is you're on your own and repeat like a broken record the same statements over and over as if you can't comprehend. We had a tenant show a VRBO receipt he had paid, when in fact he hadn't been paid the final payment when he checked in and out though we were notified by VRBO he did, I called during his stay and after repeatedly and were told we were on our own to try to collect the remaining balance of $2,609.20. All in addition to the damages he caused to our property the insurance company VRBO uses /charges for paid minimal with us having to cover the difference in excess of $2K.VRBO purchased Homeaway that was a good company who would try to help both tenants and owners but now that it's owned by VRBO's parent company Expedia is a TOTAL nightmare for both owners and tenants!! It's all about excessive fees to produce HUGE profits to Expedia as they charge "booking fees" to the tenants on top of the advertising fee owners pay to list their property. Most tenants are unaware thinking these fees are the rents being paid to the owners that are NOT! For our property VRBO is charging an average of $200.00 to $900.00+ per booking to the tenants. If licensed businesses/property owners allow tenants to pay securely outside of VRBO to avoid their fees ensuring they're paid; VRBO will remove your listing. In addition, they block both the tenant and owners' information until they collect the booking fees.Review fromHolly C

1 starMy family booked a weekend trip in September 2022 through a property owner advertising through VRBO. Upon arrival, my husband and I decided that the unit was unsafe and uncomfortable. The pictures were misrepresented and a large amount of information was left out about the rental. We contacted the property owner to request reimbursement due to extreme dissatisfaction with the unit. He referred us to contact VRBO and told us they would reimburse us. I contacted VRBO who informed me that they do not and I would need to contact the property owner. They offered to send an email to the property owner but provide no follow up to me. I contacted VRBO again a week later and was informed the property owner did not return contact. I was there encouraged to send an inbox notification to the property owner and that they would send him a another email that I was messaging him. I informed them the property owner was not very friendly and minimized my concerns. I asked them as a company what they do in the situations. They said they encourage communication between the traveler and property owner. I mentioned to them that anybody could post on their site and provide misrepresentation. There is no accountability. They said the reviews would be helpful for future travelers but I am still not receiving reimbursement and unlikely I will. * wrote the property owner and have not heard back. It is difficult to navigate the VRBO website to find contact numbers and addresses for their company.Review fromAlexis B

1 starNEVER book with Vrbo ever! I booked with Vrbo, and it was a terrible experience. First, the room was disgusting, full of mold, dirty, and the ** was busted. The host was conniving and dishonest. When we messaged and called, she ignored us and Vrbo. Vrbo ended up paying for us to go to another hotel because the host wouldnt answer her phone. I thought everything would be fine after that but no. Vrbo wouldnt let me post pictures of the mold or a negative review for the room she rented, but allowed her to post a negative review of me as a guest. So now every host will see it and think Im the problem. I called Vrbo to get the review taken down, but they said it was against policy and only the host could take down the review. I will never book with them ever again!Review fromAmina A

1 starThey sent me an email the night before my check in to let me know that they have canceled my reservation without me asking them to cancel and then sent me an email asking me to give a review for my recent stay? My reservation ID is 36729602. I made reservations and paid in full on August 3rd, 2022 and I got a message on September 1st after checking my email at 9P.M, that my reservation was canceled. I had 3 children who are minors and other adults who had medical issues that were put to stress because we were left stranded with nowhere to stay or a refund to book another hotel or somewhere else to stay for the duration of our stay in New Jersey. I will be sure to let other people stay away from booking at your place because you are not reliable and you don’t care about your customers and their safety. So to answer your question, we didn’t enjoy anything. We had a terrible time/experience that was meant to be a family vacation. Your future guests need to run and never book any stay with you because you have failed us and you will fail them also. We will be looking forward to spreading the words out because we were not even compensated for all that happened and no courtesy call was made to us. We paid for 2 nights and it was $1,481.36. I contacted VRBO and they did act on it, they customer service I spoke with advised me to visit this site and write a review.Review fromFilip G

1 starI am a host, rented my place for 65 nights through VRBO, received the payment. The tenant successfully checked out. Six months later VRBO debits my account for the full amount saying the payment didn't go through, the credit card card the tenant used was not his therefore the payment must be refunded. I totally understand if this happened while the tenant was still at my property but he already checked out after 65 nights of stay and I am the host I don't deal with payments I pay VRBO services $499/annually plus fees from each stay they book my property. WHY SHOULD I BE RESPONSIBLE for their mistake???Review fromMiranda B

1 starIf I could give no stars I would! What a terrible company with horrible customer service! I have used them once and tried to cancel due to a death in the family and due to the circumstances get a refund. They basically told me sorry for your loss, you should have gotten the travel insurance NEVER will I use them again and I would caution anyone who is thinking of booking a reservation through them. Stick with Airbnb!Review fromVince A

1 starLast night after flying across the country I arrived at my VRBO to gdiscover that I couldnt get into the place. When I contacted the host she said her account had been closed by VRBO and so there was no room. Neither the host nor VRBO let me know about the account being canceled. I contacted VRBO from the porch of the hosts place and was left on hold for three hours while they worked on a solution. Nobody ever got back to me. I wound up sleeping on a friends couch. When I called Vrbo the next morning they still didnt have a solution for where I would stay and I had to discuss with them whether my case warranted a refund!!!I will never use Vrbo again because being stranded in a city makes the service completely unreliable and their response has been terrible.Theres something very broken in their system when they cant let their customers know that their accommodation will no longer be available
