Edit to case ******** - In October 2022, a canvasser went to my parents house, who are both senior citizens. They have a minimal grasp of English (How are you, How much money) but aside from that, they do speak, read, write English. They asked my 80 yr old mother how much her monthly bill was and said it was too much and she could save with MorConnect. They told her to sign a contract under the guise of saving money MONTHLY, however, the only savings is a 1 time credit of $25 which they did not tell her. The actual CHARGE is $79/month for purchasing 'carbon offsets'. They did not receive a copy of the written contract, and what I’ve attached is only after disputing these charges with them today, and asking them to email it to me so I can check what was signed. The contract is for 5 YEARS and has 2 full pages of Terms and Conditions (T&C) in small font English. It would have been impossible for these senior citizens to read or know what they were being asked to sign (though they actually didn't even show them the pages of T&Cs nor the filled out contract even in the first place). The canvasser would have known immediately that these seniors didn't understand English, but continued to ask for a signature and insisting they would be saving monthly. They also put them on the phone with someone and directed them to say yes, no, etc. The sales person also did not provide a copy of the written contract. This is blatantly taking advantage of senior citizens who do not understand what they are signing, pretending to help them save money, when in fact, it's costing $4200 for 5 years. When I asked to cancel, as my parents were coerced into this, the cancellation fee is $464. However, since they didn't even receive a copy of the contract, they should not even be charged. This is corrupt and they should not be permitted to continue do this and take advantage of other similarly vulnerable people.Customer Answer

I am reporting a door-to-door sale by morConnect Inc. on November 4, 2022, a representative claimed himself from ******** gas came to my door. He checked my recent gas bill and said if I join a program, my gas bill will not go over $30 each month and I will get $25 rebate for the first month. He tricked me into signing the form to process this request. Later on, I found out that the program is a 60 months contract with an extra monthly charge of $29.9 in my ******** bill. The salesperson and the paper I signed did not mention anything about the length of the program and the fee of the program. They were providing misleading and unclear information which led me to sign an agreement. I contacted the company to cancel the agreement and they said if I wish to cancel, a cancellation fee of $464+HST will applied. Could you please help me to resolve this matter? Thank you.Customer Answer

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because:The salesperson never mentioned the monthly fee, terms and the length of the contract. I never read the contract and I do not have a copy of it.
As a consumer, I have the right to cancel a contract. Under the Consumer Protection Act, a consumer must be given a written contract. A consumer contract has to include specific information about the goods or service and your rights as a consumer. If it doesn’t, I can cancel the contract within 1 year of entering into the agreement. I can cancel the agreement, regardless of its value, up to one year after I entered into it if the business or salesperson I've signed my contract with made a false or misleading statement about the contract.
I am requesting a cancellation of my contract with no fees being charged.
Sincerely,

two sales man came to my house in april and said they are from ******** and helping the people for a rebate program to lower the gas bill. ask my wife to show the bill.when my wife showed the bill, they filled a from named ******** and asked her to sign but they did not filled the price on the form .when she signed the form they called someone who started reading terms and conditions .the salesman who was standing beside her convinced her to say yes by shaking and signaling his head in yes mode . after disconnecting the call he said you will get a rebate because we filed complaint to ******** and your bill will be lower.
we did not know that we have enrolled into a furnace protection plan. furnace is mine and in good working condition .they are charging me for nothing and my bill is higher because of that. it was to 70 $ for
700 sq feet area but know it is 165 .when i asked then to cancel they are charging a cancelation fee of 464$ +tax.
they trapped me again for the thermostat and co2 sensor by saying that it is also the part the of same program with no additional cost and you do not need to pay any extra charge in your bill even in third party billing.no cancelation fee ,no installation fee .they came and install the products. i did not comer to know until i called ******** and ask what is third party billing. Then they explained me the problem of higher bills.then i called MORconnect and ask them the reason for charging. they told me that you are enrolled into two contracts.then i asked her to send me the contract. when i saw them then i come to know that they trapped me and wife separately....
nowadays i am very frustrated from this contract .they charging me excessively .if ask them to cancel the contract they are charging me too much money, if i ask them that i will buy thermostat and sensor they send me a quote of 3565 $ as buy back option. the total product cost in the market is 500$ .so i have to approach
BBB for the solution which i am trapped in. please help me to come out of this because my earning affordability is not mismatching with these expenses due to higher mortgage and groceries.
all the copies of contract has been uploaded on the website the hope that i will be out of this problem as soon as possible
regards

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because:Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because: i was told that this is the part of rebate program started by ********. even it is not .i was misguided by salesman and my wife is misguided by sales woman who were selling these contracts door to door they filled the form by telling her you would get a rebate in your next bill ,but that was a furnace protection plan.they did not do anything on my furnace because my furnace is in good working condition. But they started charging me because my wife signed that form which she was told is a form of rebate and somehow managed to convince her to say yes .
it is very clear that their contract is only one sided contract only to charge money to the people. and you have also hundreds of complaints on your webpage in reviews stating that company is worst for the people but still running by saying they are from ********. I don't need their contracts nor their services because of their higher prices ,lengthy contracts for 10 year and worst buy back option for $3500 +hst for less than $ 500 products.

On Aug 10, 2022 , A guy came to my door and claimed that he is from ******** and they are going door to door to provide $25 carbon offset one time refund for all their customers and I showed my interest for the refund. He asked for my ******** Account number and personal details to be written on the document that he had. I signed the document without knowing that I am signing a contract for 60months. He asked to made a call to their customer service and told me to say "Yes" to everthing ober the phone. I work from home and was getting late for my work so I just said "Yes" to all the w
Questions over the phone just because I trust Enbridge. On my next gas bill I observed that I have received $25 carbon offset refund. It came to mind that it might be fraud as ******** do not need to come to the door for refund, they could have just adjusted on my bill. After 2 months, I saw charge of $33.84 as charge from other companies. I called ******** for that and they opened a dispute for me and In the meantime I contacted MorConnect directly for refund. They told me that I am in agreement with them for 60 months on a monthly basis. I was shocked as I was never even given the copy of the agreement. She was asking me to give them $450 around as a penalyy to cancel agreement. They emailed me the agreement on Dec 01 2022 which says that I am eligible to canc el it within 10 days of receiving the written copy and now they are claiming they have handed me over the agreement but I have never received it. I am not sure If I will be getting any refund but I am sure that I want immediate cancellation. Thank you for your understanding.

2 employees of MorConnect show up at my door and told me that I am paying too much for electricity and promised they will refund the excess payment by credit so I should give them my void cheque. They filled out paperwork with my information and then had another woman call me to confirm the information, however the employees at my place told me to answer yes to the woman on the phone who wasn’t very audible so the Morconnect employee coached me on what to say, this is when I started to get really scared. When they left they never gave me the yellow copy of the paperwork, she filled out, neither did I get any email with the copy they filled out for me. A couple of weeks later I got a 25 dollars credit and then a 33 dollars debit and a monthly preauthorisation set up on my account. This was never discussed with me by the two employees. I was never offered the 10 days cooling period according to the Ontario act. I would like my contract cancelled with No cancellation fees or penalties payment and my information, including my banking information deleted from their records as this business is clearly fraudulent.Initial Complaint

Last Wednesday (November 23, 2022) a lady showed-up in our door and told me that she’s from ******** gas and wants to check my bill if I’m paying too much for our gas bill because they had receive lots of complaints about it. She introduced herself as ******* and she’s wearing a MorConnect ID which I thought it was affiliated with ********. When she checked my bill she said that I will have a monthly rebates of $25.00. She let me sign a forms and told me that it’s for the rebate. And then, I receive a call from MorConnect confirming my personal details and asking questions which I did not understand because ******* keeps talking and coaching me the answers. She said the ******** is going to email the number of months I will receive a rebates. I was waiting for the email since Thursday but when I did not receive it until this morning I tried to search the MorConnect online and found out lots of complaints about this company. They use the same tactics to deceive people. I now realized that the forms that ******* let me signed were actually a contract which I have not read and I don’t even have a copy of it. Please help me to cancel that contract before they charge me in my ******** Gas bill.Customer Answer

In August 30 2022, a salesman knocked on my door claiming that he works for ******** and says that I qualify for a 25$ rebate if I sign up a form. I agreed to the terms and he told me that I should expect a phone call providing details of the term. He mentioned that I should "yes" to all the questions. I had a hard time hearing what was being said on the phone call and didnt fully understand what I was saying yes to. After a few hours, I asked for the contract to be sent and the salesmen only sent the part where the contract says I have a 25$ rebate. I asked for the other part of the document since I was feeling uneasy about what I signed. He mentioned that I could simply cancel it if I want to. I agreed and told the salesman to cancel the contract.
I never received anything from the company after that so I assumed that the contract is cancelled. However, a few months passed and I discovered new charges on my ******** bill and it was due to that contract that I signed. I filed a complaint and when they called me back, they played back the phone call saying that I have agreed to those terms. I am on the hook for a monthly charge of 30$ for the next 60 months and I want to cancel, it will cost me more than 400$.
I attached the text conversation I had with the salesman.Customer Answer

I had employee of MorConnect show up at my door, telling me that I am paying too much for electricity and that they could make my bill cheaper with a credit. This Rep stated they were helping home owners to offset the energy bill by providing credits. He said that you will get a credit on your energy bill. And they never explain how long this contract will last. I was misled by the salesman and taken advantaged of. I am very appalled by their actions just to gain business. Now they are charging me $33.84 per month in the name of carbon offset. When I advised in writing my wish to cancel they told me I had to pay them $456 for cancellation per the signed contract which I never received.Customer Answer
