I had an incident with a Republic Services driver in the ********* / *************** area on tuesday, 2/18/2025 around 10:00 a.m. . I immediately called into customer service and spoke with Agent ***** ********. I told him about the incident, and he relayed the information to a local operational supervisor. This included the license plate , and the truck number 1580 . This can be heard on the recording I left. Later in the morning, Web, *****, opporations suppervisor. Called me. I informed him that trash truck number 1580 was right on my tail, and did not even have one car length between my rear bumper, and his front bumper. Mr **** did not seem interested in dealing with the situation, or the driver. He spouted off that the driver has a 25-year clean record with no complaints or accidents. I relate to him that if something happens with this driver, and he does not deal with it, that Republic Services is liable, and that this information is on the record now with the call center, and him as well. If an attorney calls to subpoena records regarding this driver, because there was an accident that killed someone, or some other altercation on the road as I experienced, the company would be held liable. He seemed upset with me, but nonetheless he didn't display urgency needed to deal with this matter. I let him know that if an attorney called me, or the company wanted me to participate in an arbitration hearing regarding this driver, I would more than oblige any subpoena or invitation. These type of drivers need to come off the road, and because Mr **** did not seem to want to take care of the issue, I'm now bringing it to Republic Services corporate headquarters. It's not worth someone being injured for life, or dying, because your company did not want to take care of a driver that was not conducting his duties in a professional, and safe manner. I interpreted Mr **** has too close to relationship with this driver to actually execute proper discernment or discipline.Business Response

Message content: Advised customer that ******************** appreciates the feedback provided regarding its company vehicle operation [Tail gating] and unsatisfactory customer contact with manager. Advised customer ******************** takes unsafe driving reports very seriously. Advised customer, appropriate investigation will be conducted and corrective action will be taken after the incident review. Advised customer any policy violation and unsafe operating practices will be identified and addressed. Advised customer will review customer contact interaction and take appropriate action as required.

For months now, I have had issues with Republic Services. They either miss services, skip it entirely, are delayed and have lack of communication with us and other customers, or make excuses for not picking up our dumpster and emptying it. I have attached the most recent issue and I see in local community ******** groups that others are experiencing the same thing. A neighbor has already filed one report to the BBB against Republic and was able to leave the contract and get resolution, and I am seeking the same result. new contract was just signed in nov. 2024 at a reduced monthly rate. customer has been serviced, other than when recent inclement weather in jan. and feb. prevented service on their normal service day. Regarding this last incident, the driver even "bagged out" the dumpster (literally pulled bags out of the dumpster by hand) until he came to bags that were frozen to the bottom.Initial Complaint

Since December 2024, we have tried to cancel services with Republic Services. Our bill went from $200 a month to $500-600 a month. The only option for cancellation is to contact them by phone at **************. We have tried to call approximately 10 times AND WAITED OVER 30 MINUTES EACH TIME. They never answer the phone!!! THEY NEVER ANSWER AND WANT YOU TO JUST HANG UP SO THEY CAN KEEP BILLING. THIS IS A SCAM AND CONSUMER ALERT!. They have an option to keep your place in line once on hold and have someone call you back, and I have tried that several times, but no one ever calls back! On their website, you can add services, change days, request a missed pickup but YOU ARE NEVER ABLE TO CANCEL SERVICES. I'm filing this complaint to get their attention to cancel services immediately. I have also requested to cancel through the ************************ App on 2/4/2025 and was told the ONLY WAY TO CANCEL WAS TO CONTACT THE ************.Business Response

I've been a long time Republic Customer. Accnt# **************. Over the years the billing issues, missed pickups etc have been an annoyance and each time there is a lot of effort to that goes into contacting them, being transferred around, supplying proof of my concerns, emailing, more calling etc. They are a difficult company to work with.Recently I was provided a bill, I went in to pay the bill, only to realize they added additional service charges to my account. My bill was $49, I was prepared to pay and then saw my bill now is $67.84. Im on a contract amount that is clearly listed within my contract which I had to provide them proof the last time they misbilled me earlier this past year. This issue keeps coming up several times a year. For 2025, my rate should be $63.13. The additional $18.84 added on just now doesn't state really what it is. I want clarity and I want consistency in my billing. I paid what my invoice was and I want the $18.84 credited back to my account and my bill to resume to $63.13 for 2025.The reason I was credited is because this company will miss pick up days, we have to call, enter a claim and hope they come back the next day. Just recently I called and set up an appointment for build pickup which they forced me to pay in advance, I did so and they didn't show up on date specified. I had to call, inform them and they came the next day. One week here within the last month they didn't even come at all that week. Yes, due to storm but could have come back the next day as snow was MELTED! Im tired of Republic and want them to pick up trash on time and give me a correct bill each quarter- the back and forth is exhausting with this company. For what it's worth, although this next issue won't be solved anytime soon but the excessive hydraulic fluid leaks on our pavement each week and the trash left on ground when they spill. Only time driver gets out of their truck is to put cards on my trash can asking for Xmas tips.Business Response

Tuesday December 17, 2024 Reached out to the company regarding price increases, which keep happening month over month. Scheduled a site visit with account manager 12/19/*********** December 19, 2024 Met with account manager, who told us we were not under contract, as one had not been signed in years. The services had not changed for over 10 years. Discussed my concern - the pricing.Thursday December 26, ****************************************************** price. Refused to sign any contract, as they could increase the price the next month.Monday January 20, 2025 Discovered that the pricing had increased AFTER meeting about the pricing. They literally increased our bill AGAIN. At this point, I decided to cancel all services with the company.Sent email expressing that we retained new services, and that we would not incur any expense beyond January 23, 2025. Cancelled auto-pay, and completely removed the credit card from the accounts. They never picked up their bins, and continued to service despite my cancellation.February 17, 2025 Discovered that even though I completely removed the credit card from the accounts and cancelled auto-pay, they ran our cards anyway. Absolutely absurd company to ever do business with. Even when we need to research new service providers next time, Republic Services will NEVER be considered again. Not just because of price, but because I had to combat them to cancel the services, which are still for some reason continuing.I will be calling and disputing every single credit card transaction attempt they try.Business Response

In response to BBB complaint #********, we formally contest the complaint as the summary of events does not accurately represent the situation concerning account number ************** with ******************** of ******************, Allied Waste Division. The Account Manager assigned to this account proactively reached out to the customer to discuss rates and proposed a lower rate, while clarifying that no contract was in place for this account.The customer indicated they were too busy to proceed with a new **************** Agreement. Additionally, the Account Manager made multiple follow-up attempts with the customer: on January 13, 2025, at 1:06 p.m., a message was left; on January 20, 2025, at 3:45 p.m., another message was left; on January 23, 2025, at 10:58 a.m., a message was again left; and the final attempt occurred on January 31, 2025, at 11:24 a.m., with yet another message left. The Account Manager additionally sent a follow up email on January 20, 2025, to which no response was received. The base rate charged to this customer under account number ************** has remained unchanged since May 1, 2024, which contradicts the customer's assertion of a price increase on January 20, 2025. We were not notified of the customer's intention to close account number **************, as the account referenced in the customer's email related to a different division located in *********, **,with the subject line of the termination email request titled Republic Services *********. Although the customer removed payment information from the account, the pending payment was not canceled and was processed automatically as per usual. We have officially closed this account following the receipt of this complaint, effective February 28, 2025, and the container is scheduled for removal. I am partially satisfied by the response. First, it is fallacious to assert that one contract has bearing on another, it provides no justifiable cause for the payment to be charged on the account that is not under contract. The notice of cancellation was made weeks before, and the payment information as well as auto-pay function was removed from the account. This type of behavior begs the question of why account holders are even given access to change these terms if the payment will be processed regardless. Thus, it serves merely to portray to clients that they hold control over that capability, until it comes time for Republic Services to let go of those funds, in which case they did not.Business Response

Republic Services threw away my personal trashcan. They did not pick up our trash the week prior due to snow and ice, so customers were told to sit out our extra **********************. I put my extra trash in my personal trashcan, and they threw the whole trash can away with the trash. Ive reached out four different times to see about getting a new trashcan to replace it or compensation to buy a new one. I was told they are not responsible for personal items, even though they were the ones that told us to put out the trash since they skipped a week. I just called back and was told this, then the lady would not let me talk to a supervisor and hung up on me.Business Response

Good afternoon,
We do not service any personal or competitor containers. This has been communicated in call blasts, text messages, KMTs, and through the county ordinance. During inclement weather we notified customers that we would take additional bagged household trash at that time and it was not required for the extra trash to be in a container. Personal containers are set out for service at customers own risk during the bad weather. We courtesy dumped due to weather and will not be doing it again moving forward. We are not responsible for servicing,damaged, or lost personal containers. If the customer needs a second ********************** Service container, then we need to have that reflected on the account, and we will deliver an additional Republic Services container to them.
This damage claim was denied and as a good will courtesy, the customer was offered a $20.00 credit on 02/14/2025.

I had a whole large trash can full of trash that I could not have just left in bags on the ground. There would have been critters ripping the bags open and trash everywhere. If you are not to take personal containers, then you should have left my personal trash can alone and not touched it. That seems contradicting. I just ask that you replace it or credit enough for me to purchase another one. A $20 goodwill credit was a slap in the face, as a new trash can is a lot more.Business Response

We apologize for the frustration. As a courtesy and to make up for the day we missed due to weather, we serviced the containers the customer had out had out. All containers run the risk of being damaged or lost in the truck at time of service, which is why we only service Republic Services owned containers. Putting out any other container, competitor or personal owned, assumes the same risk. It was out to be serviced and we serviced it as a courtesy. A credit was given to the customer for the damage to the container. If the customer needs an additional container, we can adjust the account to reflect it and deliver an additional container.

************************* is the sole provider of trash services for ***************. I moved to a new construction house on 1/22/25 in this jurisdiction. I scheduled with Republic Services, *** to begin trash pick up services on 1/29/25. They dropped off the trash cans successfully on 1/29/25, but no pick up occurred on this day even though they clearly have shown success at locating me as a customer.2/5/25 comes. It is the regular ********************** and recycling day. I see them drive through the street leading up to mine. I see them turn around before my street and leave. I request a special pick up because of their miss. I am told they will pick up on 2/6/25.2/6/25 comes and I get a call saying next service will be 2/12/25. I have 3 weeks worth of trash at this point.2/12/25 comes and goes with the same scenario. The trash pick up arrives in adjoining neighborhood. They do not come down my street and leave. I call and ask for a missed pick up. I'm told they definitely totally will be there on 2/13/25. I have a full month worth of backed up trash at this point. I get home a little before 5pm on 2/13/25 and they have not picked up the garbage. I call and ask what is going and when they will pick up and am assured they will totally definitely be there after their regular shift and pick up no later than 7pm. That time came and went and no pick up occurred.I do not know how to get service. The call center keeps assuring me things are being taken care of. The truck never comes to my street. They never pick up the trash. It keeps accumulating. Please help. There is clearly a huge disconnect between the call center and dispatch services.Business Response
