I recently reviewed my credit report and noticed an account that was not reporting accurately. inaccurate information is being reported and is causing my credit score harm. According to your records, this account was opened on 11/08/2021, is listed as an auto loan, and was charged off in August 2023. However, your report continues to show monthly ***************** notations extending through April 2025. Once an account is charged off, the continued reporting of new charge-off activity on a monthly basis constitutes misleading and inaccurate reporting.Customer Answer
Date: 05/23/2025
I confirm that I am authorizing the submission of this complaint to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and that I am formally requesting the BBB's assistance in addressing this matter with *******************
This complaint concerns ******************* reporting of a charged-off auto loan account to **********************, which is appearing on my credit report under account number ****************. While I acknowledge the loan fell behind, ************** reported the account as a charge-off in August 2023, and since that time, the account has continued to accrue monthly "**" (charge-off) notations through April 2025.
This type of reporting is:
Misleading -A charge-off is a one-time accounting event. Reporting new ** notations each month gives the appearance of ongoing delinquencies, which falsely depresses my credit score.
Potentially deceptive - It may misrepresent the status and recency of the account, and in doing so, could be interpreted as an attempt to re-age the debt, which is not allowed under federal law.
Inconsistent- The original balance was reported as $21,654, while Exeter states it has written off $20,914, yet the balance as of April 2025 is listed as $9,883. These figures do not reconcile logically and suggest errors or lack of transparency in reporting.I have already submitted a formal dispute with Experian and attempted to contact Exeter Finance
A written explanation and correction of all inaccurate reporting on my credit file.
Immediate removal of all post-August 2023 ** notations from my credit report.
Either an accurate update of the tradeline to reflect true status or complete deletion of the account due to reporting inconsistencies.Business Response

Upon reviewing my recent credit report, I noticed that an account is incorrectly marked as having a late payment. It shows that I have one late payment on an account that I have consistently made timely payments for. I am aware that the consumer reporting agencies are required to report accurate information. The date in question is September 2024. I have attached a copy of my credit report highlighting the disputed entry. I request that you investigate this matter and update my credit report accordingly to reflect the accurate payment history.Customer Answer

I recently reviewed my credit report and noticed an account that was not reporting accurately. I had a charged off on an account that was in fact paid on time. The consumer reporting agencies need to report all information with complete accuracy. This account has not been late on payments. I've attached a copy of my report to this complaint on the following dates ( 05/23-04/25)I demand these payments be updated to paid on time immediately. You cannot report information with knowledge that this information has errors. I have substantial doubts about the accuracy of the information. Please update this account to PAID NEVER LATE.Customer Answer

I am filing this complaint due to Experians failure to accurately update or remove a student loan tradeline that contains a late payment. ********** has already deleted this account from my ********************** report due to the furnisher's failure to provide updated and verifiable information, which is a violation of federal consumer protection laws.Experian is in violation of the following:15 U.S. Code 1681s-2(a)(1)(B): Duty to update and correct inaccurate or incomplete information.15 U.S. Code 1666b: Timely posting of payments and proper crediting.12 CFR *******: Billing error resolution procedures.Despite notifying Experian and providing supporting documentation, the inaccurate information remains. This is damaging my credit profile and violates my consumer rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Truth in Lending Act (TILA).Resolution Sought:I am requesting the immediate deletion of the late payment or full deletion of the student loan tradeline from my Experian credit report to remain consistent with the resolution provided by **********.Customer Answer
Date: 05/21/2025
This letter serves as written confirmation that I authorized the submission of this complaint and that I am formally requesting assistance from the BBB in resolving this matter with Experian.
Detailed Description of Concerns:
My concern stems from an inaccurate and outdated late payment reporting on a student loan tradeline appearing on my Experian credit report. I recently had this same account removed entirely from my ********** report after they found the furnisher failed to provide updated and accurate information, in violation of federal consumer protection laws.
Despite submitting a dispute to Experian and referencing the discrepancies and legal violations, the inaccurate information remains on my report. Specifically, I believe Experian is in violation of:
15 U.S. Code 1681s-2(a)(1)(B) failure to update or correct information;
15 U.S. Code 1666b failure to properly credit payments;
12 CFR ******* failure to properly resolve billing errors.
The continued reporting of this inaccurate tradeline is negatively impacting my creditworthiness and goes against my rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and Truth in Lending Act (TILA).
I respectfully request that Experian either:
Delete the inaccurate late payment, or
Remove the student loan tradeline entirely, to remain consistent with TransUnions resolution.
Thank you for your time and assistance in addressing this matter.Business Response
