Stamps.com does not clearly disclose that you are signing up for a subscription service, I was charged for 2 months at $19.99 without an email stating they were charging me, or any other documentation. I believe this is a scam site, I have reported it to my credit card company for fraud.Business Response

Signed up for a free trial in August 2021. Never received a singleemail since stating that I was being charged monthly since then. Checked my payment history to find that they have been charging me a monthly fee of $17.99 since September 2021 for a service I have never used (not even during the trial period). This past month, they upped that fee to $19.99, so they charged one month at that rate. I canceled immediately (3/22/23) and now see another charge on my account for $3.33? This is unacceptable and I would like a total refund seeing as I've never purchased any goodor service through Stamps.com.Business Response

I went to stamps.com to purchase postage and somehow was automatically signed up for the monthly subscription. On 03/20/2023 I noticed a charge on my debit card but also noticed a few days earlier the same charge trying to be taken out. I spoke with someone about two months ago and cancelled my service with stamps.com. I thought they cancelled my services just to still be charged. I called and spoke with someone so how is this company still charging me. I don't understand and that is very misleading when I called and cancelled. I just want my money back because I'm not using the service. I just needed to send off a package not have $20.00 taken out of my account every month when I cancelled. Please help. I am requesting a refund because that is not right at all. I cancelled spoke to rep and everything and still got charge. I don't understand. Please refund me my money. ThanksBusiness Response

I am very good about canceling free trials and am amazed that this business has been charging me almost $20/month since 2018. I learned this after calling because I saw the charge on an old credit card and I couldnt access my account online. The login page instructions said to call to reset my password and I when I called, I chose the option to ask about billing and asked to cancel my subscription and asked how long it had been activeApril 2018!!!! Apparently as part of canceling the subscription, the representative deleted my account, so now the only information I have is my credit card charges. The charge is on an old credit card that I almost never check (clearly); I am pretty sure I created an account for use in my last job because I almost mail anything personally.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:I was not provided with receipts for/opportunities to authorize or decline the monthly fees. I believe this runs counter to the federal Fair Credit Billing Act. Therefore I believe the amount refunded is not sufficient given that I did not authorize the charges. Furthermore, the business has not explained any measures to prevent this from happening to other users in the future; I hope the BBB will take actions to protect other consumers.

Dear ******,
Thank you for sharing your perspective. We apologize for any misunderstanding regarding our fees. We have carefully reviewed your account history and have found the service fees that were applied are in accordance with the Service Agreement to which you agreed. However, we do show that you have been refunded in full for the service fees charged. We apologize for any misunderstanding on this. We do not charge people without their full agreement and consent during our online registration process. Stamps.com accounts cannot be created without customers indicating that theyve read the terms and conditions. We believe in full disclosure, which is why we provide our terms ( ******************************************** ) on a single webpage during the registration process. As disclosed and explained during registration, we do charge a monthly fee after the 4-Week Trial Period.

Stamps.com charged me a monthly fee of $18.17 but I never clicked "ok" for their service. I was going to purchase an item from them but ironically the shipping was too expensive. I was direct debited by them twice for $18.17 but the they didn't go thru because I had no $ in my bank acct. I am disabled * unemployed & have no income. I am applying for social security disability. I complained about the charges and closed on my account. On 3/9 I was sent the following:Thank you for contacting Stamps.com Customer Care.We have added your name to a special database to prevent further contact regarding the balance due. There is a processing time associated with removing outstanding bills, so you may receive another invoice in the mail. Please disregard any new invoices that you may receive. You do not owe ** any fees.Your confirmation of this action is 230304-000847.They charged me on Sunday 3/12!!! $18,17 Unbelievable. I had /borrowed $ from a family member to send flowers to a friend whose father passed, and stamos.com stole my money. Completely unethical. I would like a refund immediately & if I could afford to take them to court I would!Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: Stamps.com is missing the entire point of my complaint. I was told now three times that I would either not be charged, (they then charged me almost immediately), or they would refund my money. They lied. It goes without saying them charging me is not only a result of a lie, but also a result of "beware the fine print" tactics in their service billing.Very simply put, they told me they were not going to charge me, even assigned a case # to the issue. Then immediately charged me anyway. I do not have any confidence that they have or will refund my money.

Thank you for your feedback, *******, and we apologize for the negative experience. We apologize for any misunderstanding. We show that you set up your account on 1/30/23. Your trial period thus ended on 2/27/23. Your first charge occurred on 3/1/23. Rest assured we did not charge you immediately upon account creation. As disclosed and explained during registration, we do charge a monthly fee after the 4-Week Trial Period. We issued a refund of $18.17 for the charge on 3/15/23, which you may confirm with your bank or financial institution. In terms of the waiver emails with a confirmation number you received, this referred to your upcoming final fee, which was waived and zeroed out before it was charged. Stamps.com always bills in arrears at the end of each cycle, rather than in advance. We do not bill at the beginning of the cycle. Again, we apologize for any misunderstanding. I created an account on their site two years ago to buy some postage to save going to post office during Covid. I just found out they have been billing me $18 months since then which I never agreed to. Reached out to customer service for a refund but they refuse. They say that this fee is described in their documentation, But it was never put to me as a choice of a service that I was signing up for on a monthly basis. This feels like fraud to me. I see other similar complaints from other people, here and on their ******** page.Business Response

I had filed a previous complaint with the BBB against this company, and they have still failed to meet the resolution they offered. On feb 22, 2023 stamps.com responded by saying they have issued a refund of *****. However I only received back *****, even after I had contacted customer service once again to attempt to get the full amount. They said they cant do anything at that moment until they look into it. They assured me my account was closed, but it should have been closed the first time I requested a refund AND account closure. Upon attempting to cancel my subscription, the website directed me to call customer service. A customer should not have to file a complaint in order to close their account and stop being charged for a service they have made clear they no longer want. It is not a good business practice to essentially force customers to jump through hoops to get a refund, or even close their account. I had rejected their resolution because the full amount had not been reimbursed, so Im looking to get the other half of the promised amount, as well as get this company to take accountability for their questionable business practices. My issue is more so with how difficult it is to cancel your account, which means that people will continue getting charged despite them making it clear they dont want the service. I had been trying for a while to get it cancelled so i wouldnt be charged anymore, which is why I believe I should be refunded in full. There should not be an option to cancel it online if its just going to make the customer call to do so.Business Response

Dear ****:
Please accept our profound apologies. We were correct in stating that you had been refunded *****, but we were incorrect on the actual timing of the refund as it occurred on two different dates. One refund of ***** was issued on September 9, 2022, with the remaining ***** being refunded on February 22, 2023. We regret the confusion. This represents all the fees that we had collected and there is nothing left for us to refund.
Your satisfaction is important to us and we always want to do what we can to ensure our customers have a positive experience when working with Stamps.com. We hear your concerns and please be aware that we do escalate feedback such as yours to the appropriate teams for investigation and action. It's important that relevant parties are aware of the various perspectives that exist in our current and former customer base.
