'Unauthorized Charge for TurboTax ************* Never Used or Requested'I am filing a complaint against TurboTax for charging me $79 for TurboTax ************* Basic Tax Year 2024, a service I never knowingly agreed to, did not want, and did not use.All I did was file a simple W-2 tax return through their online systemsomething TurboTax has long advertised as free for basic filers. At no point did I knowingly request ************* services, nor did I speak to or receive help from a tax expert. I completed my return on my own, without any assistance, yet was still charged. When I realized the charge, I immediately submitted a refund request online. However, I was told there is no guarantee of a refund, and that I will need to wait 57 business days for a decision. I also attempted to contact their customer support, but was told I had called a TurboTax Tax Assistant line, which now makes me concerned that even contacting them could be used to justify denying my refund.TurboTax's upselling tactics are confusing and deceptive, and based on the number of similar complaints online, I am clearly not the only one who has fallen into this trap. The interface makes it appear as if there is no other option than the Basic plan, which apparently includes the ************* service, but does not make this explicitly clear to the user.I am requesting a full refund of the $79, as I did not knowingly opt into this service and did not use it in any capacity. I feel misled and taken advantage of by a company I had previously trusted to handle my tax filings.Business Response

4/24/2025 I called Intuit to resolve an ongoing issue regarding the ability to print checks for clients using QuickBooks Desktop software; This is my third call regarding this same issue, as the program is unable to locate my printer and will not print checks. I spoke to someone for 2 hours and 39 minutes who could not resolve my issue leaving me without the ability to use the software to the full extent that is intended. Certainly printing checks in an accounting software program is a big part of the software. I would like 50% of the purchase price refunded, as the amount of hours I have spent on the phone other than this one call as well as the fact that my software is useless without printing checks.Business Response

I retired and closed my real estate business in November of 2023 and we stopped using the Intuit Quickbooks product for payroll. In April of 2025, when I was preparing to file my income tax return for tax year 2024, I discovered an unauthorized auto-charge of $710.66 dated 5.21.24 on my **** card. I immediately contacted Quickbooks they agreed on that phone call to a "full refund", but it might take up to ten days. On April 8, 2025, a $90.51 refund posted on my **** account. I have called them back 3 times asking for a supervisor and they said their protocol does not permit them to transfer me without an active account. I also cannot apply for the refund online without an active account. After multiple phone calls, I'm getting nowhere with them after towards the refund balance of $619.15. Please advise.Business Response

To whom it may concern,
We received the complaint forwarded to us on behalf of **** *****. We appreciate the opportunity to respond.
We reviewed ****** issue regarding an auto-charge of $710.66 for a QuickBooks Desktop Plus subscription that should have been canceled in 2024. Initially, a partial refund of $90.51 was processed, leaving a balance. Upon reviewing the case, we processed the remaining refund amount of $619.15, which was split into two transactions due to system limitations: $557.49 and $61.66. These amounts have been refunded to Mr. ***** and should appear in his account within 3-5 business days.
We thank **** for bringing this matter to our attention and the opportunity to assist.
Regards,
Office of the President

I am filing this complaint due to an unresolved payroll issue with QuickBooks Online Payroll that is resulting in incorrect federal tax payments being submitted to the *** on behalf of my business in additional to my books being completely out of balance. Starting on 3/25/25, Quickbooks has been giving me a "paycheck sync error" when running weekly payroll. Since 3/29/25, I have been working with QuickBooks support to resolve a known system error that is affecting how federal tax liabilities are calculated and submitted, as well as the accuracy of my books. I have been repeatedly assured that this issue would be fixed including escalations to their engineering team, but more than a month has passed with no resolution. *** also had to get my accountant involved to review and manually correct the tax issues QuickBooks has caused which is now costing me additional out of pocket expense. This issue is not user error; it is a verified system malfunction acknowledged by QuickBooks representatives. It is now actively putting my business at risk of *** penalties due to inaccurate or untimely filings. Despite referencing Case #*********** during numerous support calls and follow-ups, I have received no substantive updates or fixes.QuickBooks is a paid payroll service provider, and it is unacceptable that a core function accurate tax remittance is not being fulfilled reliably. The lack of urgency and accountability is concerning, especially for small businesses that depend on this software to meet critical tax obligations.Business Response

I purchased turbotax premium live tax advice. I utilized the features once and spoke to a "tax expert." On the call I explained my situation and asked her how I should handle it. The "tax expert" said "I have no clue - but we can ****** it together." We then proceeded to both ****** the answer and I finally told her what I thought the best solution was and she said something to the effect of "well thanks for teaching me something new." This was not tax advice. This was me teaching their experts something based on my ****** reviews.Business Response

I used Turbo Tax to do my taxes and in the beginning I chose start for free. When I was finished I noticed it said I was charged for premium at $79 , which I did not choose. This company is very unethical. There is no way of opting out. You are charged regardless of what you chose. I was fine paying for the $40 processing fee which is to e-file, which was all I wanted to do. When I contacted them, they closed my request and ignored me.Business Response

I also was switched to a separate product without realizing it. After doing free taxes in past years, I knew I needed to use the main service for $69 because of an extra form I needed. However, when it told me it was time to pay, it took $129 for the live person review that I didn't select. At that point I stopped to make sure that it didn't forward to the accountant. My son eventually did figure out how to skip that step and file my taxes, but I never used the live review. I went through the runaround for days, calling, using the online customer service complaint, and submitting online refund requests, but the refund response claimed that once I pay I am considered to have used it. But I never used the live upgrade and I never selected it. I feel duped.Business Response

I paid $540.20 to Intuit for TurboTax ************ on April 10, 2025. This service is for a tax professional to prepare and file your tax return. 100% accuracy is guaranteed: **********************************************************************. After paying for the service, I reviewed my tax return before it was going to be filed, and found a significant error. I confirmed this error with the tax pro, who said she forgot to save an update before finishing my return. As a result, I decided NOT to file my taxes with TurboTax as I no longer felt confident. I asked for a refund with via the portal and the tax pro said I should use the refund form, which I did. My refund was denied (see attachment). I asked for a reconsideration via the portal and the Tax Pro said she'd escalate to her manager. Despite multiple follow **** I have not heard back. I request a full refund for the service as it did not fulfill its guarantee of 100% accuracy.Business Response

Turbo tax online says no cost for simple tax return. I filed my federal return and the only thing I entered was my income from 1099R, SSA retirement and interest on savings account. Then I was charged $89. In addition, at the end you are prompted to file electronically for an additional. You are not allowed to print your return unless you lie and say you did not file a return last yearBusiness Response

I upgraded my QuickBooks account based off of a promotion that was being advertised stating the customer gets 3 months of %50 off as well as an E-file of one state and one federal taxes with NO filing fees. However upon completion of my taxes, I was indeed charged. Before paying I reached out to customer care and was told by ****** that I will need to pay however Ill be getting a refund once I provide my order number. After providing her with the requested information, I was then told I would not be getting a refund. I then reached out to customer care again and was told by ***** that I will not be getting a refund and also that I could not speak to a supervisor because she is going to tell me the same information.Business Response
