I noticed my Solar system had ***** lights with error messages and wasn't communicating for over 6 months. I finally got around to making the call to SunPower to troubleshoot. A technician ended up needing to be sent out after waiting weeks for him to arrive which resulted in needing a new inverter which was still under warranty. I was initially told they would order one and would call me back to reschedule the appointment within a few weeks and I heard nothing. Ive called at-least a half dozen times since then to obtain a status and each time I get told by the agent that theyll follow up with the manufacturer and that theres a supply shortage on the inverters. Meanwhile, my PG&E **** has been steadily increasing. Its unfair that weve invested sooo much money on this solution only to have it not work. With every day that goes by is more money out of my pocket. Help! Case# ********Business Response

Hello ,
Currently the inverter needed is on supply constraint, however we are working to acquire an alternative inverter that can be used in place of the non functional one. Homeowner will also be compensation for the time that that inverter has been down after the system repairs are complete. Updates will be provided weekly.
Thank you

In November 2022, I noticed that I could not view the monitoring details of our solar panels. I called Sunpower on November 4th and was told the earliest appointment I could get to have this issue corrected was February 1, 2023 - nearly a full 3 month wait! I tried several times to get an earlier appointment but was told it wasn't possible. Finally on February 1st, the technician arrived and said he'd need parts to fix the problem. On February 13th, I called and requested a status update. I was told that a technician report was never submitted for my visit and therefore no further action has been taken. It's not been 3.5 months and I have not yet had this resolved. I have no proof that my solar panels are even working properly.Business Response

I haven't had a chance to speak to the customer about this complaint as we kept on playing phone tags.
Nonetheless, I have been sending him email updates. By far, I'm in constant communication with our subcontractor to make amends with the return visit scheduled initially set for 4/10 to complete the repairs for system's communication issue.
I'm committed to be in touch with the customer in providing with the updates on the progress of repairs.

The original complaint was filed with your ************ Office: Complaint ID#: ******* Business Name: SunPower Corporation Thank you for contacting BBB. Your complaint was received by BBB on January 10, 2023 and has been assigned case# *******in our files. However, I was notified that it was transferred to you as the company has moved into your region. I contacted your office twice and have not heard back. The matter is now partially resolved after 6 months of frustration. In 2017 a solar system was installed. It produced some but not optimal power for about 2 years and then nothing in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. My husband passed away in late 2018 and as I had not done the bills I did not realize the issue. My son in law identified this matter (*********************) and you have my permission to talk to hi. ********* sub contracted to Energy Aid to fix the system. After months of limited contact and no follow up they installed new microinverters; however they only did 14 and not 15. Finally after months they came back to fix this. They also lost the PVS6 monitoring system but finally that was replaced. *****************: ***************** | Executive Escalations Specialist ********************************************************************* | office ************| ******************************************** was initially responsive but now he is not following through on finishing the resolution of the matter. He said after all was fixed, ********* would offer fair compensation for the lack of power production from 2017-2022. He has stopped contact and the issue is still unresolved. Also, the monitoring system is still not showing the panel production which would allow me to monitor them. I am 85 and on a fixed income. This lack of production and now lack of follow through has been deeply distressing. Please assist me in getting ********* to take the next step to solve this. Thanks so much.Business Response

We are already in constant communication with the customer as well as the subcontractors to get them access to the panel level monitoring. As promised to the customer, we will work as well with a compensation package for the system's underproduction.

I am rejecting this response because:There has been communication but I have had to initiate all of the contact. For three weeks I tried to get a call back from ***************** and I finally reached him by calling a number in ******. Also, I sent a package to ************** and he initially claimed it had not been sent. I had a proof of delivery. He found it finally. Then, he said there was a problem with the panels not being mapped. That was done by Energy Aid finally after multiple trips. The biggest issue has been this has dragged on for months due to lack of follow through by ********* and their subcontractor, Energy Aid I have had to be the one every step of the way to push the matter and get to the next step. I am hopeful this can finally be finished in the near future. I am 85 and have authorized my son in law, *********************, to finalize this matter for me.

I understand that it has been especially difficult for the customer as she had to initiate all of the contact and push the matter forward herself.
I have guaranteed to have been working directly with the HO's son in law, *********************, to finalize and resolve this matter.
***** and I has been in constant communication about this issue and has committed work diligently to address all concerns and complete the site mapping as soon as possible. As agreed as well, I'll be looking for a fair compensation due to this issue once resolved.

I am rejecting this response because:This process has taken over 6 months. The fact that the ********* does not have the mapping is because the subcontractor Energy Aid ddi not provide it. There have been so many dropped ***** by both ********* and Energy Aid and I do appreciate the ************** acknowledges that all follow up has been initiated by the customer. The amount of time devoted to resolving this has b been extensive. I do look forward to hopefully fully finalizing this matter as soon as possible. I do not understand why Sunpower is unable to get the mapping as I saw it when it was completed but was not given a copy.

For the past couple years my electric bill kept going up up and up and reported I lost communication with the app that show energy production and made many attempts to get a technician out to fix the problems which took 3 months just to finally get a work order # between ************************ and sunpower both saying that the other would be responsible for creating the work order alone. Then when I finally got a work order # it took another month to get the technician out. Once he came and got communication back up and running the app showed that only half the panels or system was working or producing energy to the grid. Once they got that fixed I asked about reimbursement for the monthly lease payments for the months I paid more to the electric company because my panels were not producing. During this time I also inquired about purchasing a battery for my system that will help with the monthly costs as HELCO is double charging me first to store the energy produced by my panels to the grid then second charging me to when we use the energy. Sunpower told me the panels on my roof or system they installed and failed to let me know a battery was available for purchase is now obsolete meaning theres no batteries compatible with my system that I have. Also after more investigating into my panels I found between March 2021 - April 2022 the was no production recorded on my panels and made them aware of this and now this makes sense because this was the times I was trying to get a technician out here because of the increase in my electric bill. It was like I had no panels at all. They said dont worry we have a production guarantee program that every year they look at this annual report. They had the nerve to send me a false report for the above dates when I have the same report from the app. Please help me Im a disabled post transplant patient still in my battle, now this ??Business Response

This business started the solar project on my houseback in March 2022. on the month May after the installation of all panels on the house and garage roofs the SunPower wasn't able to pass LA city inspection since the garage doesn't have permit. It has been converted to the *** without permission. No one from SunPower was able to answer on question why they started the project without getting all necessary permission before starting solar project. In August 2022 they came up with offer if they move all panels from garage to the mail house the city will give them permission to connect solar system to Department of water and Power. Even it will reduce the energy production I decided to move forward with offer. But after they moved panels from garage to main house anyway the city wasn't able to approve the project and still keep asking for garage permitting. They still weren't able to answer on the question why they attempt to transfer panels if eventually will not be able to get job done. Also, they dig a trench between garage and my house to lay an underground cable between this two budlings and all waters from rain (specially this year ********** was raining a lot) because of damaged drain went under my house. Contractors who remove pavers and dig the trench never comeback to place paver and grass back as it was before they started. It has been a real mess for the last 11 months. I can't believe that this can happen in ****************************. People can't be so ignorant to others. I have many emails with excuses, but it is not helpful at all since no one reached out to resolve this matter. I have 2 kids who didn't play in the backyard for last 11 months because this people are greedy and incompetent. Also, the dust we have in the backyard because the ground is not covered with paver and grass make everything nasty. Please review my request and let me know what are my options . Thank you in advance.Business Response

Case Number N. ******** Case Number N. ******** Case Number N. ******** Case Number N. ******** We have had issues with the inverter for our solar panel for more than one year. We opened 4 cases and the service has been terrible and nothing was fixed. On 12/13/2022, I opened a case and I was able to get a technician on 02/06/20023 from *******. After an evaluation from SunPower, the company is saying the problem in the inverter needs to be replaced, however, SunPower does not want to give us any credit for their wrongdoing. According to them, it is not under warranty and it is our problem. If SunPower had decent services and did not close the cases until calls were returned to fix the issues, the inverter maybe was been in a repair condition. This is NOT acceptable. Now, I have a system that is useless due to the incompetence of SunPower.Business Response

Thank you for allow SunPower to address the homeowners complaint. The homeowner's issue is that the systems inverter needs to be replaced. They system was installed in 2009 and the warranty for the inverter expired in 2019. The homeowner never submitted a warranty claim or advised SunPower there was in issue with the inverter until 2022 which is after the warranty expiration period. The homeowner has also been provided a list of dealers in his area that he can purchase a new inverter from if he would like.
At this time SunPower would like to request that this complaint be closed as resolved.
Thank you,

I am rejecting this response because:*****,
We have different case numbers for this address, ********************************************************, case No. ********, ********, and 03165892.
First, let go and put our act together. As you suggested, I contacted *********************** from ******* for an inspection on February 6th. According to *************************, Director of Solar Operations, SunPower DOES NOT have a replacement for this inverter. You need to find a replacement for it or come out with a responsible solution. SunPower's customer department is so unorganized that we call and the tech cannot find the cases. Also, we ask you to provide the information of the company or original installer of the equipment. SunPower HAS NOT provided the information. This is YOUR equipment. If the equipment is or is not under warranty you need to provide the replacement parts or a solution for the nonfunctional equipment.
Apparently, SunPower is washing its hands in this case. If you are a reputable company you find a way to resolve the problem.
In conclusion, the inverter NEEDS to be replaced. Please provide *********************** with which equipment or solutions to make the equipment functional.
Here is *********************** information.

Hello ****,
I have compiled the case numbers below and the dates they were opened with their description and outcomes for your reference. The inverter is out of warranty and you will need to shoulder the cost of the inverter replacement. None of the cases did we advise Honeys that SunPower does not have the equipment we only advised it would not be covered under the warranty. Meaning Honeys would need to purchase the inverter from us and we would not ship an inverter for free which they have not requested.
Case 03150931
Was opened 2/6/2023 for an inverter down due to a call from ********************************* with ******************** which he reported the inverter needed to be replaced and it was escalated to our RMA team or request for material which determined the inverter was out of warranty and we would not replace it. On 2/9/2023 SunPower received a call for an update and SunPower advised that the inverter is out of warranty and we would not be sending one that a new one would need to be purchased.
Case 03080343
Was opened 12/13/2022 for an internet communication down error but was actually escalated to me directly because there was a report of the smell of burning on the system. I reached out to you directly on 12/28/2022 and left a voicemail to advise I would be your point of contact. I then reached back out to you on 1/3/2023 and we spoke on the phone and you confirmed the burning smell was coming from the inverter. At that time I advised that the inverter is no longer under warranty and you stated that the dealers you have reached out to wanted to charge $500 for a site visit. I then provided you the follow up email with the list of dealer that service your area.
Case 03165892
Was opened on 2/15/2023 which is my current case regarding the BBB complaint. The homeowner does not have a 25 year warranty for the inverter. The 25 year warranty is for the panels only. The inverter which is the equipment in question was only under warranty for 10 years which is now expired.

Complaint: 19380218To whom it may concern,
I requested information to SunPower about this unit several times. I need to know WHOM installed this unit and the specifications of this unit on top no contractor wants to replace or fix o services the unit The contractors want to install a NEW SYSTEM but not services the current system. Also, the contractor or contractors are stating that the inverter cant be replace of a new one because SunPower does not have an inverter replacement for the unit and it is not giving any alternative.
First, who was the original installer or contractor that install the unit.Second, what are the specifications of the unit I stalled
Third, SunPower needs to provide the specification for the replacement unit and three local contractors that can do the job since no contractor want to do it
Also, per the builder the inverter has a 25 years warranty. Please provide documentation that this inverter only has 10 years warranty.
I am rejecting this response because:
SunPower is avoiding responsibility a refuse to provide option to resolve this issue.

I have been dealing with downed solar panels for over 5 years. I have to continuously call for repairs that never get addressed. The last several months I have been calling and receive constant "We have annotated your file for technical support review.". I have not been using solar panels I paid for because they are always down and with no one coming fix them, they are dead weight. SunPower is a major scam and they do not treat their customers as a vital part of their success. I surely will not be doing any more business with them and If I can tell the world, I will. Thousands of dollars invested in a system and company that could care less for their customers is one sure way to write your ending as a company. Do not go with SunPower for any of your solar needs!Business Response

I purchased a house that had solar installed by Sunpower, I wanted to make it bigger and with 2 batteries. I was initially told my system would be in October 2022, now it is February and my system is still not working properly even though I started paying in January. I have had a couple "experts" come out last week and this week, the system is still not working. No one has reached out to tell me what is the update. I have a list of issues and complaints ranging from incorrect drawings to SCE to the technicians conduct in my garage (smoking weed pens), the supervisor disappearing when the job was still incomplete, and the horrible response time. Their COO supposedly, reached out to me and told me this would be fixed asap and clearly it is not and she has not reached back out to give me an update.Business Response

I purchased a SunPower system in July of 2018 for $24,231 which included a 25 yr warranty. In June of 2022 my system stopped working. They did not notify per their monitoring program. I was only alerted when I received a $500 Bill from SCE. I opened a case (#********) on Sept 9, 2022. SunPower determined my monitor panel need to be replaced. Their contractor, NovaSource set up and cancelled 3 appointments. One in 11/22, 12/22 & 1/23. Both *********************************** will not put me in touch with a supervisor. I sent a demand email on 1/23/23 to have a supervisor contact me to complete the repair. I have not heard from anyone. When the system was working my electrical bills were $12/month. They are now $250 - $500/month. SunPower threatened to cancel my warranty if I use another contractor. If the repair can not be made in a timely manner I would like a full refund and reimbursement for electrical bills.Business Response

I understand your frustration regarding the utility bills you paid during the months when your system was not working. It is important to have a functioning solar panel system that provides the energy you need and reduces your reliance on utility companies.
While the replacement of the inverter and compensation for the loss is a step in the right direction, we have the Performance Guarantee that will cover all the production loss. Once the issue has been resolved, we'll discuss other options to rectify the bills received.Customer Answer
