Yahoo won't let me use customer care to reset my recovery email unless I pay them $12.99 a month to access premium customer care. So i'm unable to access both my yahoo email and my gmail recovery email except by paying them a monthly subscription fee to gain access to their support to reset my recovery email. Extortion at its finest and scummy business behavior, how is this even legal? The "free way to recover your account" uses your recovery email... which i have no access to unless i once again pay for a premium service.Business Response

I have two Yahoo email accounts. As of this morning(5/5/2025) Both were logged out by Yahoo and requiring sign in for both. But now I have to be verified by using a "code" which is sent to the 2nd email address. Only problem is the 2nd email wants the code sent to the 1st email addr. So now I'm dead in the water. Tried to sign up for their Paid Premium Support and even that didnt work.Because of medical conditions, I use these accounts often to communicate with doctors, insurance co.s, etc. It's VERY important these accounts work.Have been using Yahoo for 26yrs and it appears their lack of support will end our relationship.Business Response

regarding the email account: ************************************ YAHOO deleted ALL of my emails -- sent and received -- without giving me any prior warning. These are old work emails (for the former ************** that I rely on as an archive of my editorial correspondence. These emails also contain important personal correspondence with a recently deceased relative that I was hoping to access. When I called Yahoo in November 2024 to request that my emails be restored, I was told I would have to PAY for the privilege. I am not sure that is ethical--especially as I was given no warning--but my main goal is to get all of my email data restored.Business Response

Yahoo has received the complaint and will reach out to the user to assist. ********************** terms of service states: "After 12 months or more of not using your mailbox, it is considered inactive. It will stop receiving new emails, and all mailbox contents, folders, contacts and settings are permanently deleted."

I am rejecting this response because:
when I called Yahoo customer service in November of 2024, I was told they could reinstate all my emails for "a small fee." I wish to proceed with the restoration of my data. My inactivity was due to having been hospitalized for over a year.
Sincerely,

Yahoo Mail keeps your mailbox active as long as you use it, but after ************************** more, the content will be deleted and can't be restored.
Users can sign up for a paid service to keep the content of your mailbox from being deleted by signing up for Yahoo Mail Plus. Your mailbox won't be deleted for inactivity and you'll enjoy other premium benefits such as no ads and priority customer support but this does not restore the contents that was already deleted for inactivity.... it prevents the mailbox from going inactive because there is a paid service associated to the account.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:I have made a valid request for an exception to this policy. I was disabled for a year, due to an accident, and physically unable to access my email. I received no prior warning that my entire account would be wiped out, which seems unfair--and one cannot claim that this statement was contained in an agreement signed one decade prior. No updates were received. And once again, already indicated that I spoke with a Yahoo representative on September 20, 2024 and went through the whole yahoo.intellicheck process to have my account restored, and I was told by a Yahoo representative that it would be restored, and still it did not take place. Isn't it the company's responsibility to make good on a promise made by a company representative?
Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:We are going in circles with this matter. I am requesting a human response, taking into account the human circumstances.
Yahoo's robots keep sending back automated replies, which is a non-human response.
Please escalate this complaint to an actual person who can take the circumstances into account. I am not just an algorithm.

Yahoo mail is forcing you to use a 2 step verification process despite knowing your password. And if your recovery phone number or email is out of date they are forcing you to pay for the premium service to recover it.Business Response

As of 04/20/25 i have been looked out of my Yahoo! account. I know my password and my recovery email. I also have a phone number setup on the account for two step verification. Some how I was automatically logged out of my account and was been looped over and over again through the verification process. I got a message saying something went wrong. I attempted to us the Help page several times. Now the system no longer recognizes my recovery phone number and has also locked my recovery email address. The only option is to call the 800 number. I have called them and they asked for my recovery email and my phone number. Wanting help I provided the information. Then the agent said I didn't pass verification and wants me to send my US drivers license to the ***********. And use my credit card for subscription. This made me very uncomfortable. When I refused to send my US Drivers license to another country, she hung up on me. I have waited days before attempting to long back in and I am now permanently locked out. The only option Yahoo Mail gives me to log in is to call the 800 number. I need to hear it from a customer that they have actually spoken with Yahoo and has gained access to their accounts. All my research shows is once a customer buys ************************** subscription the customer service representative are still unable to help them gain access. I've had this email for over 15 years and can't gain access after giving Yahoo customer service my recovery email address and recovery phone number. Is this a scam? How will I be able to gain access. Can we resolve this without send a US drivers license to another country. This feels fraudulent. Pleae help BBB.Business Response

She proceeded to obtain some information from me then tell me I have to pay to reset my password which is insane but Im desperate so I proceed with the process, she then ask me to upload my ID and started your process to shortly say after all of that shes unable to help me. I told her it is most definitely something she can do and she stated its not I have to create a new account. I need my account so so so bad everything goes to that email. PLEASE HELPBusiness Response

Yahoo locked me out of my email account and required authentication from an old email address (which was another Yahoo account. I attempted to log into the old email account and again was locked out of that account (despite having the correct username and passcode). The only solution was for me to call support. The only solution they could offer is for me to upload my state ID, which they don't have on record to begin with the match against. There is no reason for them to request my state ID to verify my account when I have the correct username and password. This is just a way for them to gather user's personal information.Business Response
