I lost access to a ~20 year old email account, Yahoo Support will not help me unless I pay them.
A couple months ago my personal information was compromised, including the email account in question and my bank information. They got into my emails and changed the passwords, which included my recovery email. I had just purchased a new phone, so I don't have access to the number associated with my account.
Yahoo customer support strung me along each time I called, forwarding me to representative after representative, until finally they told me that there's nothing they can do for me unless I give them my payment information. I've literally had this email since before I could read, my dad created it for me. And the official Yahoo customer support won't help me recover my account that was hacked unless I pay them??
Seems extremely unethical. How can I trust that this is even a solution, when they have a history with associated scammers??Business Response

Yahoo will not allow me to update my password or phone number without paying for their premium service. I have access to my account on one device, but need to be able to update my password so I can have my account on future devices as needed. I have had this account for 20 years, and they are unethically requiring I pay to have access to it. They have confirmed there is no way for me to continue to access my account on any new device without paying for their premium customer service.Business Response

I have had my email address since probably early 2000s. They are requiring 2 step verification to login. The phone # and email both associated with that are no longer active. Called customer support to verify my identity, as it requested to be the next step. They asked for money to get into the account, calling it Premium Customer Support. My e-mail is decades old, has tens of thousands of e-mails and linked to dozens of accounts. Give people back access to their mail.Business Response

Yahoo Small Business charged my chase credit card $153.75 on October 31, 2022 without providing advance notice that such a charge would be made for the domain name of foodpuppets.com subcription ID A-*********. I have not used this domain name in years and I contacted Yahoo on December 5, to contest the charge made on my credit card. I cancelled the services but they refuse to give me any credit and claim that I needed to cancel by December 4 in order to get a refund. My credit card statement did not arrive until late December 4 at night, and I cancelled on the morning of December 5, upon seeing the charge on my credit card statement. They refuse to pro-rate the charge and insist that they are entitled to keep the entire amount despite acknowledging that I was fully cancelling their services.Business Response

The email ***************** has been attempted closure many times. Over the past I have been goign in circles. Yahoo mail gave out my information improperly. Everytime I try and delete the account I am told I need to wait 90 days till after a subscription is cancelled. After the 90 days I end up trying to log in and get locked out. I attempt to reset the password using my recovery metyhod. After entering charachters sent to reset the password I get a message telling to to call an ***** When I do and explain I get a call center in some far away land and told I cant access my account and that to reset it I need to join a "membership". Then the best part once joining which was done previously in July 2021. Once joined to regain acess I need to again wait 90 days till the subscription has eneded.
This is whats going happen. First, NO corrospondence to the referenced account. Their is a recovery email on file. Secondly, If the account is not closed immedialtely upon receipt of this I will begin legal with the Massachusetts Attorney Generals Office Consumer Affairs Division. Any time spent going in circles further with this predatory practice will be billed to your company at $190 per hour. \\
\Make sure it 's closed and that there is written confirmation.,Business Response

I can't access my account:************************
The Help Centre sends me on an endless loop. The call center is for US only. There doesn't appear to be a call Centre that can help in Canada, nor a live chat or email contact.
My account was compromised. The two factor authentication was changed (phone number from. ********** to **********) and the recovery email was erased.
I am pretty sure I have the right password. When I enter it, I am taken to the page.

I have attempted to reset my password to my email account with Yahoo and have been required to use their premium paid only support. I have access to the recovery email, I have provided the code, but they require a second code from a phone number I no longer have access to. With any other email service this would easily be solved by resetting the phone number as I have provided a legitimate 2 factor authentication code from a verified email attached to the account.Business Response

I had my phone broken and was not able to access my email through a new phone. Upon putting my login, I would ask right away to confirm through logging into from my previous device or get a text to the phone number I no longer have registered. The last option was to call customer service. After speaking with the representative who gathered all the information (including a sent picture of the front and back of the driver license), the representative said that my identity was confirmed. She proceeded to ask for money, stating that everything afterwards is a paid service to help out. After discussing a price, she mentioned 3 different plans varying from $4.99-12.99 monthly. I tried to ask multiple times which is the cheapest option that would give me access to the further help I needed, she would proceed to ignore the question stating "Ma'am, listen to me and let me tell you about our plans" and start reading off long paragraphs of information without any necessary information. She was not respectful, she did not listen and it sounded like a scam. I was forced to hung up, but I am worried, considering the fact they have my driver license information. I would like my email back or at least to have an option to put in my password instead of being asked to log in through a previous device.
The phone number I called was the one that pops up on their official Yahoo mail appBusiness Response
