      I have had 2 separate bad issues with PennyMac. Do NOT get a loan through this company!
      Issue 1: In trying to get a loan for a home, PennyMac approved me, so the home buying experience was moving forward. An appraisal was ordered and completed. I requested and paid for several inspections, which were completed. Three weeks into the process and three weeks prior to closing, PennyMac changed their approval to a denial. In their favor, they refunded the cost of the appraisal, however, I was out close to $1,000 in inspection fee's that they refused to refund. I was never asked to provide any further information between the time PennyMac approved my loan until the time they denied it. They gave no rational or satisfactory reason for the denial. Very poor lending practices!!
      Issue 2: I got a mortgage loan through my bank for a different property than the one in issue 1. The loan was sold to PennyMac. I have had to call to have my payments processed correctly on more than one occasion because when large payments are made, PennyMac automatically processes the single payment, which is meant to pay down the principle, as 2 separate payments and charges the interest twice. Then I have to call, wait on hold an incredibly long time, and talk with someone who is unintelligible in order to have the payment fixed and processed correctly. I'm hoping this issue is getting fixed so I do not have to continue to call them every time I make a large payment.

      I have a mortgage that was sold to Pennymac and they have been an absolute nightmare over the past 2 months. I have penalty and fees due to state taxes although Pennymac has been taking out over $2000 x month in escrow and even refunding me for escrow overpayments. I have called them over 7 times with the same issue and it remains unresolved, despite two supervisors (allegedly both named Chris) promising me that this will be resolved and after HOURS of ARGUING accepting liability and assuming the responsibility of the penalties. I have now been working on this for over 2 months with no resolution. Despite my initial positive experience (never really needed customer service) this has been the most frustrating experience I've ever had with a mortgage company (have owned 5 homes now!).

      They threw my credit into a tailspin because they claimed we weren’t paying our mortgage for 3 months even though we have paper trails to show we had. They want to take ZERO accountability for it even though my credit reports literally say they are the sole reason my credit has gone down 87 POINTS. We never received any letter/message/email about “missed payments” and can 100% show proof it’s because we indeed paid.

      Pennymac's website and blog say to contact the lender early if you are having financial difficulty. I did contact them after being 1 day late on my mortgage payment. I was experiencing short-term financial difficulties and requested a 2 month forbearance. I simply needed a little relief until I could get back on my feet. I was told that "they don't do that." The only thing they suggested was a loan modification that would raise my interest rate from 2.5% to around 8%, totally unaffordable and less than helpful in my current situation. The company's blog and website say they want to keep people in their homes, but my experience says otherwise. While I understand that making the mortgage payment in a timely manner is my responsibility, I just needed some short-term assistance. It seems they are unwilling to help until a borrower is seriously delinquent and, in contrast to their website and blog claims, don't actually care to help homeowners who reach out early for help.

      They can email me trying to sell me stuff weekly but cannot email me to tell me my check had an error which prevented them from processing it?????? Not only that, I contacted them several times about my check having not gone through and they didn't respond. They did contact me however, the very next day after the grace period was over to collect their money!! Funny thing though, the representative did not tell us they received the check and that there was an error, no, she told me I needed to make a payment and that I should put a stop payment on the check --which if my husband hadn't called back to file a complaint, we would have spent the extra money to stop payment which was NOT necessary. They were mailing the check back we just haven't received it yet. I've had my loan since September of 2019 and have NEVER had a late payment. Until now. Had they contacted me, as they should have, to let me know my check had an error OR even if they just responded to my online messages, I would NOT have a late payment. Now you know what's important to them. Money, not people.
