They moved my money to another business without my authorization. Then, charged me fees to do it. They are thieves and I do not recommend them. It's scary they can just move money without authorization.Empower Retirement

I worked at an employer for a week and during that week was ineligible to even contribute to retirement. 6 months later, I get mail from Empower talking about my new account. When I contact the phone number on the letter, the first lady I spoke with did not understand my request after clearly communicating it 3 times. She then "transferred me" which hung up on me. I called back, and the 2nd lady said they cannot close my account, but they can mark it so they no longer send mail to my physical address, and instead send communication electronically, to my old work email which I never had access to. Um, what? I should never had an account to begin with. I get they need to keep some accounts open for tax docs, but I wont have any since I never contributed anyway?Empower Retirement

Zero star review. Several calls placed and nearly ever rep ****** you on hold, states they will transfer you, and then hangs up on you. They messed up my 401k rollover and just state they are waiting on another department to help assist. Avoid using this company at all costs.Empower Retirement

I had a horrendous experience with this company and after reading the many reviews on here, this is a very common experience. What it boils down to is that they make it very difficult to get any of one's own money from them. Unfortunately, the company I work for has chosen to use Empower for our 401k program. After requesting a distribution from them on a Friday, I received an email the following Monday indicating my withdrawal request was in process - so far so good. They also indicated that MY bank may hold the wire for up to three business days. I have done perhaps ***** wires to my bank from other institutions and often when the transfer is requested prior to 4 PM, they funds are available later that SAME day, no waiting for three business days. I know the games banks play with the three business days. With an electronic transfer, depending upon when the batch clears, it should take one business day at most. Anyway, after the three business days had elapsed, no transfer had occurred. I called up Empower and they said MY bank had rejected the wire transfer. I called my bank to see what had happened and they said they had never received any transfer nor was there any attempt. Often the reason for failure is either due to an incorrect routing or account number. After calling ********************** back and confirming with two different people that both numbers were correct, I called a manager in their wire department and re-confirmed with them that no attempt had been made. He said to call back Empower and get the rejection code from them to see what the problem was. When I called Empower back for the third time, I called to speak with a manager or supervisor. I asked for his entire name and he refused to give it to me. I also asked for his manager's name and he refused to give that as well. I had also been told previously when the transfer was rejected, the sent me a ***** with a check which I would find out eventually was a lie as well. Stay far, far, far awayEmpower Retirement

They sent me a letter asking whether I still had the uncashed check they sent me. Never received it, then found out they had dissolved my account, sent 20% to the **** 8% to the state and the check was for the remainder. I contacted them, and they sent another check, but my complaint is that I was never notified they were going to dissolve my account. They claim they "attempted" to notify me by letter, by my **** informed delivery shows no such attempt. I asked them to reverse their actions, but they refused, saying they had "met the minimum requirements" to notify me. Meeting minimum requirements is a pretty low performance standard. Maybe they should strive for "exceeds expectations" after reading the reviews below LOL! Who wants to hire a company that strives for meeting minimum requirements? Maybe a burger chain. Take your money and run. Any company that hires these people to manage their employees' retirement funds is a loser, as well.Empower Retirement

I can guarantee that nothing is going to be done about this company for writing yet another 1 stare review. I wanted to withdraw my money from this company. So I called in to get the process going. After verifying my information to get into my account I realized that I had moved and needed to update my address so they can send me my money. Well I gave the person I was talking to the new address and then they proceeded to fill out paperwork for my withdraw. As I get done answering questions for the withdraw process the person on the phone with me tells me I can't withdraw MY money because I changed my address and now there is a 15 day hold on my account so they can "verify" that my address is correct. I explained to the person that the 15 day hold doesn't make sense since they had to ask me a bunch of questions to verify who I was to get into MY account in order to even change the address. Well as soon as I said that the person on the phone got an attitude and said that's our policy and nobody can change it. I will just have to wait the 15 days before my withdraw can be processed. What is this company hiding or what kind of ILLEGAL things are they doing that they have to hold peoples hard earned money from them. Don't ever use this company they will make everything almost impossible for youEmpower Retirement

I have my 401K plan more than 5 years. It was MassMutual than one year ago my money took Empower. Whole year there was no problems. Periodically I check my account on website, login ok, make some changes, all works. Till November. Try to login yesterday, enter User ID, password but it doesn't works. Doing one more time no access, they request registration, as a new user. Whole year ********************** use my money, gave me access to my account but now they don't know me, request whole Social Security number, some other personal information. They treat me as not their existing customer, no. They take me like a new person from the street. It's not fair, not friendly, it's abusive. Empower block my access to my account. I need access to my money. I thought Empower is solid company but not anymore. Empower is not RELIABLE company.Empower Retirement

A *** I am having issues withdrawing money that I earned from my retirement. First I left my job 8/5/22 and was not able to withdraw from my 401k until 11/1/22. Then I was told I needed a form notarized, I sent that in on 11/2/22. Then I was told I needed a jurat form notarized on 11/4/22. I sent that in on 11/5/22. Then on 11/7/22 I received an email to call about my status. I called today 11/8/22 just to be told the dates do not match on the forms even though I was notified about the forms on different dates. Why am I being penalized for trying to take a portion of money I earned? Why do I have to get the run around? I had to wait three months to withdraw and now wait two more weeks because I moved from ******** to *******? I did everything I was asked on my end and empower wants to hold my money that I busted my behind for. What does empower get by holding my money?Empower Retirement

Transitioned over to empower retirement for reason unknown. If took them five months to change a address in the system, this if with repeated efforts by me. Their information on the web is different then what's mailed to you. It's seems like your giving false information so you will continue to invest with them. Empower employees are deceptive as well supplying false information. Their website is always malfunctioning at the most inappropriate times.Empower Retirement
