On 9/8/2023 the Mt. Zion ******************* rented a 5x5 climate controlled unit from Red Dot Storage to be able to transfer items into storage rather that sorting club items at members houses. The club paid for an entire year in advance and paid for the insurance Red Dot offered totaling $912.90. On 11/17/2023 the club received an email requesting we place a lock on our unit and if Red Dot did not hear from the club by 11/24/2023 they would assume the unit was no longer needed. I responded to that email as requested at 12:51pm on 11/17/2023 stating that the unit was needed and I would put a lock on it over the weekend. 11/18/2023 between 10:30am I accessed the club's unit using the provided gate code and placed the lock on unit CC28. 11/30/2023 the club received an email informing us that we had been successfully moved out of the storage unit. I called Red Dot today, 12/1/2023, to resolve the issues. The secretary who answered the phone stated they could see the facility manager closed our account, stated this would not have been done with a paid account and lock on unit. When requesting resolution, I was told the secretary does not have contact information for the facility manager. I requested to see my unit that I have paid for, in which she stated that would not be possible because they closed out the account and could send an email to attempt to get in contact with the facility manager. I requested to speak to a supervisor and was told all supervisors were in a meeting so a request was sent for a call back. I requested a refund for the rest of the year we paid, the secretary ignored my request for this refund 3 times and suggested I contact the company that provides the insurance to make a claim on whatever may have been taken out of the clubs unit should it have been broken into.Initial Complaint

I rented a unit online in **************. They were having a special which was a great deal actually. Almost one month later after I paid my next months rent early, they suspended my gate code with any notice or justification. Then after I inquired I got an email stating they were not going to renew lease for the next month (which would be month 3, as that was the 30 day notice). However with having not violated any rules and not being late they still deny me gate access.Initial Complaint

On 08/28/ and 08/29 2023, I discovered there were many leaks in both of my units, as well as rodent damage. ALL my belongings were wet and covered in mold. I have had these units for nearly 2 years. Thousands of dollars were paid to secure my items. I was lucky enough to be able to speak with people in neighboring units who agree, it is near impossible to speak with anyone at Red Dot. Many are in the same predicament, having had their items ruined by water damage and added that Red Dot was aware of the leaks months ago and took no action. There is no office on site and no one to discuss any concerns with. When I was finally able to get someone on the phone to explain, it was 09/28/2023. Her name was ***** and she set me up with an appointment to meet with your maintenance person, ********, on 10/04. He never showed up for the appointment and left me standing in the parking lot. There was no follow-up on their end. The appointment was rescheduled for 10/11 at 11am and again, no one showed up. I have been left without answers and management is unresponsive to requests for assistance.Most of what I was able to salvage (which was not much!) was removed on or around 08/28 and 08/29. I had to contract movers each date to accompany me to Red Dot and sift through the mess to empty them. This nightmare experience has cost me well over $10,000 and I lost almost everything of any value to me!I came back on 09/26 to find that I had been locked out of the unit. So, at this point, there is no reason for me to incur any further charges, yet they keep calling and sending letters to advise the bill is somehow increasing by $2oo a month. Red Dot received faithful payments right up until all my items were destroyed. Red Dot's policies and business practices are very poor, and in my case, taking advantage of the elderly. This is unacceptable. Their entire business is storage and yet, they are not offering a secure storage option for all the money collected to keep items secure.Initial Complaint

On September 29, 2023, I arrived at my storage unit with Red Dot Storage located at **********************************************************************, and noticed that my storage unit, 110, had no lock. When I opened my unit, ii noticed that there were many of my personal items missing. I filed a police report and spoke with someone from the storage company, but they were not very helpful in resolving my issue. Upon speaking with clerk, she stated that there was up to $2000.00 that could be reimbursed to me if they found this too be a theft. I uploaded all items asked of them, only for them to respond back 2 day later through their insurance company, Lots Solution that because there was no signs of damage or forced entry they are not going to reimburse me for what has happened. My problem with this entire situation is that I never spoke with anyone physically, the people show no care or concern for the loss of my merchandise (which my son lost all of his graduation gifts and clothing), and they were only concerned with the damage to their property. They will not ask for the video footage, saying the police will have to do that; however, I don't understand how they feel they are not liable for my merchandise being taken. I paid the extra fee on my storage unit for a situation such as this, and still nothing. This was the next step and I am moving forward to ensure this will never happen to another customer.Initial Complaint

**STOLEN!!**I have dutifully paid my rent and insurance every month with a reasonable expectation of security and a backup plan ******************** in the event security was breached. My unit was entered without going through my locked roll-type entry and $1800 worth of items were stolen. I immediately filed a police report and an insurance claim based upon that report. Apparently, my unit was accessed so easily that no obvious damage was added to the existing condition. The insurance claim was then DENIED by ****************** because of that lack of damage! I HAD RECENTLY RENTED A STORAGE UNIT, LESS THAN A MONTH AGO. ALL MY BELONGINGS WERE ROBBED, IM NOT THE ONLY ONE FOR THE ****** THEY TOOK EVERYTHING I WORKED HARD FOR. I purchased a storage locker in *************** at the Westminister Dr. site on August 28, 2022. I was working out of state and had rented the locker for all my belongings. On January 10 the locker was burglarized. It was one of many units burglarized. I was in ******** at the time. I was able to file a police report but I was unable to file a claim until I returned home from working on the road. This was in August 2023. I filed the claim and submitted in with the police report. The insurance company is Fortegra. They rejected my claim. They say there has to be proof of forced entry. The lock I purchased was cut. I dont know where it is. There is no visible sign of forced entry on the door as the lock was cut. The door is unscathed. I contacted Red Dot saying I needed the facility manager the sign a statement there was forceable entry. Im pretty sure he would have noticed no lock as the insurance policy premium is mandatory for the facility. Or he has the lock. Red Dot says they have a policy to keep the facility manager from contacting customers even in the case of a burglary/ stolen property. On at least three occasions I have requested a callback from a supervisor. I have an iPhone 13 and I have received no callbacks. I have been cut out of the appeal process that was denied by ******** that didnt see the police report or paperwork submitted by Red Dot as relevant. A request for all paperwork was unheeded or forgotten about.Initial Complaint

I have a lease with Red Dot That states that I am paying 55 a month plus a $5 insurance I have been on auto pay for the entire time I have been with them and now I log on to get my info to my accountant for taxes and I am paying $87 a month. $77 for the unit and $10 for insurance. I never gave permission for the increase not did I sign anything. It just doesn't seem right that they can do that.Initial Complaint

I rented storage unit 750 from Red Dot Storage beginning in June 2023 because it looked like a safe location with a gate code entry. The former tenant who had unit ***************************************************** the unit and continuously accesses the premises and attaches extra locks to my unit so that I cannot access my own belongings. Her belongings were removed by Red Dot before I began renting the unit.Red dot has continuously refused to send help to cut off the lock any sooner than 8 days from the date I file a complaint. They basically shrug their shoulders that someone else is accessing the premises who is not supposed to, and do not take seriously that I need to access my belongings so that I can move. They have provided no financial renumeration and have only given veiled threats that I will be charged if the unit is damaged if I try to cut off the lock myself. Even when they were supposed to send someone to cut the lock off today, they did not show up at the appointed time of 8:45 am and I was given no notice until I called for information that they changed the appointment to 1 pm. This has been an ongoing dispute, stemming from their poor business practices for at least one month. This is the second occasion when a lock that was not mine was found on my unit, impeding my ability to move my belongings to my new apartment. Red Dot has not taken the issue seriously from the beginning.This has led to excessive costs driving back and forth between ********* (my new home) and DeKalb (the storage unit) and being unable to access my belongs. I have fear that Red Dot will continue to take these issues lightly and not provide their service of ensuring that I can access my belongs and keeping the premises secure against people locking units that are not their own.Initial Complaint

This is regarding my storage fee. When I started renting from this company it wasnt Red Dot Storage. It was locally managed, and was called Storage 4 U. When I signed up to rent a storage unit I was told that there would not be any rent increases, and now that Red Dot Storage has taken over this company has done nothing but lie to me. I had received an e-mail saying my monthly fee was going to go up to $94.00 on August 17th! I cant afford this because I am already in debt over $10,000.00!!!! I am on a fixed income and can barely make it now. This increase has pushed me over the edge!!!! My unit isnt worth $94.00!!!! Its worth about $68.00!!!! On August 8th, I got a lease e-mailed to me stating my rent was going to be $78.00. It didnt say anything about $94.00. I talked to my attorney about this, and he stated that the lease takes legal precedence over the e-mail, and that if the lease says $78.00 that is how much I should have to pay!!!!I am waiting a billing adjustment to reflect what is on my lease, and I want *********************** to call me. His name is also on the contract!!!!If we cant come to an agreement I want the Better Business Bureau to arbitrate this.I dont have the means to move everything out so that is not an option!! I want to make sure they never raise my rent again. I am disabled and cant afford over $80.00 a month. They need to know they cant take advantage of poor people.
