I wish I could leave a good review for the insurance company that I have to put my trust in with my life medically. Unfortunately, I cannot based on their process for approving surgeries and the ethics of the medical director assigned to my case. I have been needing a sinus surgery for years now. Ive had up to 7 documented sinus infections and issues in one year, a pattern of multiple infections in a year, each taking multiple rounds of antibiotics to clear. I’ve gone to a neurologist, I get allergy shots, I’ve had multiple CT scans showing the issues in my anatomy. My physician scheduled a surgery for me to finally address the underlying issues and hopefully resolve my sinus issues. The director pushed back and requested an updated CT scan. We did that and my physician sent it back. He had very detailed notes and documentation and I have done all the appropriate steps. The Aetna director then denies the surgery again. My Physician appeals and schedules a peer-to-peer review. This is the next step in Aetna’s process. This is also where things become unethical and shady. The medical director would NOT schedule a specific time for the review, he said he would call on a certain day. He called from an UNRESTRICTED no caller ID number and my physician misses the call. These reviews have to be done within 14 days of the denial and the director said he would not reschedule and denies my case for the last time. This is 100% unethical and an unfair practice and process for approving surgeries. These medical directors get paid for how many surgeries they deny, NOT accept. What a terrible way to operate business, with complete disregard for human compassion and a patient/customer first approach. Due to this medical director’s approach at conducting business, my quality of life now suffers.

Horrible they should be put out of business. I had to cancel my private insurance because they did not have surgery benefits. I got Aetna CVS. They took my money for June and July. I have called them 5 times to ask where are my insurance cards? They told me I don't have insurance they didn't have payment. I had to verify I did pay. They sent me my ID cards. I made my first doctors appointment and the doctor called and said you do not have insurance. I called Aetna back on the phone for 2 hours and they said they will cancel and send out new ID cards. Here we go again. What happened to the two payments I made? Bottom line they took two payments and still no insurance. They need to hire people who speak good English and they need better training.

I switched from **** ***** to Aetna in January this year when I moved to ******** It has been nothing but a nightmare ever since. Telling me my New Patient visit was a GYN visit. Denying an annual skin check/cancer screening after THEY provided me the dermatologist's name, then told me he was out of network. I have spent literally hours on the phone with "concierge" service trying to get things fixed. I've had three doctor appointments and two have been denied. Looks like their scam is just to deny the most basic of doctor visits, then make you fight and spend hours and hours to make it right. As of this writing, my two denials still are not resolved. I didn't know how good I had it with Blue Cross. Aetna's behavior should be a crime. Run far away from Aetna if you're reading this! I wish I'd read these reviews first.

Aetna has scammed my senior mother into signing up for a plan she doesn’t need. My mother has major neurocognitive disorder and doesn’t remember signing up for the plan, but they will not accept my power of attorney and will not allow me to cancel the plan.
I can wait 30 days for the power of attorney to get into the system by which time it will be too late for me to cancel the policy and continue her current insurance - which is all she needs. Therefore, I will have to find all new providers and start all over again while they profit from my mother’s dementia.
I have been told by Medicare that there is a federal investigation ongoing into these insurance scams. Unfortunately, that does not help me in my current situation.

Horrible company and customer service. They have been making me jump through hoops since February to get speech therapy claims reimbursed, which are clearly covered under my plan. I have done and provided everything asked of me, yet the claims continue to be denied. On top of that, the supervisor that I had been discussing the issue with is no longer returning my calls despite many attempts to reach him. Highly disappointed!

The Aetna agent, Shawn, told me I will have no out of pocket costs, as I have ******** *** ********* He confirmed that some of my providers are in the network for coverage.
He emailed me a link, which was supposed to give full details about the policy, but it did not contain enough information.
I went to the Aetna website, but there were no policy details there, unless a person already has a policy.
The agent Shawn made it sound like great coverage, and told me that I have 45 days to cancel if I decide it is not right for me.
Well, I signed up for the policy. I found out there are co pays for different medical visits, and no non emergency transportation which was always covered before.
Since then, the agent has not returned my calls! He blocked my emails after I sent an email to cancel the policy!
Aetna representatives state that only the issuing agent can cancel the policy. That is not true at all. I will continue to pursue this with Medicare and Medicaid.
This is a completely dishonest company. Avoid Aetna Insurance.

I am so frustrated with Aetna. Before scheduling appointments with a local podiatrist, I was assured by Aetna that my plan covered his services and that he was in-network for me. I first saw the doc in Nov. 2023. My Dec. EOB listed him as out-of-network and showed the out-of-network co-pay. I called Aetna and was told that my claim would be re-submitted. It was but Aetna still listed my doc as out of network. I spoke with other agents after that, each agreed that the doc was in-network, but nothing changed. The insurance handler in my doc's office told me she told Aetna that my doc was contracted with Aetna during my treatment time. She informed me Aetna still said "out-of-network" for me and I owed the higher co-pay.
Finally on May 1, 2024, I got an agent who re-processed my first 3 claims while I waited on the phone and those charges were changed. The EOB after my next appointment said "out-of-network" and went back to the out-of-network co-pay. I had to call AGAIN! After several MORE calls and MORE use of my time, I finally got this matter resolved in June '24 by the claims department. (I was told there was a glitch in the Aetna system regarding this problem! I should have never had to deal with this at all!) I asked several of the agents I called most recently to change my paperwork so my doctor is listed as "in-network." They said they would. On my July 5, '24 EOB, he is still listed as "out-of-network." I called today to ask for the paperwork to be changed--spoke to a supervisor in the resolution department at my insistence. She still thought she had to review my dates of service-- just to have the wording changed!! This, after I told her all the calls I'd made to agents saying my doc was in-network, the claims dept. resolving the issue, and all of my time I'd used on calls! I couldn't give her any more time and had to hang up.

My insurance switched to Aetna this year and it has been a horrible start to 2024. From coverage to customer service, it has been a major disappointment.
