I work for a provider's office, and I must say that Aetna is the worst insurance company I have EVER had to deal with. Systems are ALWAYS down, things with proven medical necessity are constantly being denied, and the people with whom you talk to are either unknowledgeable, rude, or both. I have never had a good thing to say about the insurance company, and don't have any idea how they are still a huge provider. When our office was looking at insurance companies, we made sure to stay AS FAR from the insurance as possible. Any offers we got with Aetna went exactly where they needed to go, THE TRASH. I wish we could give a 0/5 rating, but alas, we can not.

      Healthcare Marketplace Consumers Beware!
Today I received a letter in the mail from Aetna CVS Health stating “your enrollment application is being processed.” The letter included personally identifying information, how to pay my premium, and a note that I would be receiving my member ID badge in the mail.
I have not yet been online to view or select a health insurance plan for 2023. I did not select this plan. Technically, I have not selected ANY plan.
Letters like this are the definition of fraudulent, deceptive advertising and anticompetitive business practices in my book. It could additionally be said that this is also a HIPAA violation as the envelope was not even sealed when I received it.
I called the customer service number listed to ask why I was receiving this letter when I had not yet selected a plan. I was informed “oh, that’s an ADVERTISEMENT”
      No, it is Not.
An advertisement does not include personally identifying healthcare information and does not use statements like:
      “your enrollment IS being processed”,
“your summary of benefits are at ___ web address”,
      “your monthly premium IS $___”,
“your member ID card WILL be received in the mail”.
I am beyond livid that a corporation would engage in what is basically a postal phishing operation to attempt to hoodwink me into purchasing their health insurance.
      Consumers, Beware!

If you are searching for a health care plan for your employees stay far away from Aetna and ****** plans. This company is fraudulent and doesn't care about their plan members, especially in their time of greatest need such as emergencies. The back of the insurance card says go to any emergency room in the event of an emergency. However, this is fraudulent and a lie. If you go out of network they will refuse your claims and turn their back on you after all you and your employer have paid them. They will leave their participating members with huge medical bills and offer no support. Your employees will be suffering live changing challenges and Aetna/****** will add to their life stress by refusing to help with their medical bills. What can be more critical for a health insurance to do than help in the time of an emergency? Your employees will go bankrupt while still being asked to pay their premiums. Avoid this company. If you care about your employees, do not use these health plans.

How can Aetna keep their A+ rating with all these complaints on them, they are horrible. I was licensed in Insurance from 1977, now retired on Medicare. After being on hold and transferred or on hold for hours. They loose or dent they received your claims so I had my insurance company file it for me and still, AETNA can’t find it after hours on the phone with them and it just dental work. I had over $13,000 of needed qualified work done in 2022 and should expect $1,500 back from them but again, it’s like pulling teeth to get them to find my claim which was filed a couple times for them being they couldn’t find it, how convenient of AETNA… Note to customers and insurance companies, DO NOT RECOMMEND AETNA as they will make it as difficult as possible to pay what you are owed.
It’s funny that you will be dropped if you miss a payment but they get away with simply stating they can’t find it. Send your claims in with a signature required to combat their denying, perhaps with enough people this should be a “ CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST AETNA..

Worst insurance company out there. Have to wait on hold for over an hour each time to even speak to a rep. System hangs up on you too after waiting on hold for prolonged periods of time. Reps do not call back when you get disconnected either. Reps don’t care or call back in general, even when they say they will. Processing times for anything is a joke, they never meet those deadlines. Most reps give you conflicting stories, are rarely helpful, can’t seem to navigate their own system. Claims are not resolved in a reasonable amount of time either. Cannot find a nice thing to say about Aetna. They should be ashamed of the reputation they have among their members and medical providers. Avoid at all costs!!!!!! I tried to rate them at a zero and it wouldn’t let me. They’re not deserving of even a single star.

I have never been so disappointed with an insurance carrier in my life. Traditional Medicare had better customer service than this company does. (1) Called Aetna (out of many attempts) to find a therapist. They said they understood request. But, really they provided the number for psychiatrists who work within a hospital. Psychiatrists don't usually provide therapy. And, these psychiatrists only worked on that hospital's behavior unit. (2) Aetna's IT department is horrid. I couldn't bring up the site. At all. On my computer. They told me to use a different browser. My phone can do it apparently. Using the same browser. (3). I attempted to use my OTC benefits in CVS. CVS told me I need a card... Aetna told me I could just my member ID. (4) They didn't take the effort to expand their search for a therapist for me. Not even adjusting it by a zip code. On a separate call they told me only 2 were available. Their website gives dozens of options. (5) On a phone call or via the website (I forget), they gave me a therapist's name. She would call me back to say she isn't credentialed with Aetna. (6) Aetna told me, we can't tell you if a facility provides partial. I can see details of providers online. In their own site. Once I got the site on my phone to work. Are you telling me, this isn't available? That a clinic/hospital doesn't say what it provides? (7) It is insanity and then some, to reach a live person. Never mind if they don't understand what I'm asking them... and that's not a language barrier. They understood, yet did not. Like talking to a wall.

One of the worst medical insurance companies I have ever dealt with. There is absolutely no accountability or concern for customers well being both when dealing with incorrect billing or simply a follow up.
My wife got into a severe accident with punctured lung, broken ribs & wrist. Took her to ER and hospital moved her to trauma center via some ambulance service and quoted it as non-emergency. Now the ambulance service is billing us the full exorbitant amount and I have called Aetna about 10 times on this. I keep getting different answers, and promises to call back and follow up but nothing. Even the escalation manager dont have any concern and empty promises. Not the bill is heading towards collections and I have exhausted all avenues and thinking of taking a legal approach.
If at all cost avoid these blood sucking bastards. And I hope the executive of this sham of a company realize what kind of operations are they running.

It gets one star because it seems good at first, until they start requiring prior Auth for everything and making those prior Auth's a pain to approve. Wastes your time, your doctors, your doctors staff, the pharmacy and any labradorite work you NEED done. Need diagnostic breast scans? Prepare to fight for it every four months. Insurances have gotten ridiculous, even the ones who used to be excellent. Who can afford anything?
