I have had issues with Aetna since an Urgent Care visit in January. Aetna was claiming they were not covering some procedures as they fell under Aetna's "medically experimental" tag. I was told I should have gotten an approval before the procedures, however I was in an Urgent Care and just getting the care they told me I needed. I had multiple ER doctors tell me that the treatments I received would have been administered by any doctor and they were not medically experimental. I have since been trying to get Atena to review the claim for almost 10 months. Each representative tells me I need my doctor to send a note explaining why I had these procedures but when I explain it was an urgent care and not my primary care doctor they do not know what I should do. They have told me on four different occasions (four agents) that they would call the medical service provider and call me back and none of them have ever called back. I had an agent hang up on me once after I asked what my next steps should be since the previous information she gave me did not work. I have never received communication regarding my appeal after I filed it and I always have to call to learn it was denied and for them to tell me to escalate to a level 2 but with more information. They keep saying it is my medical providers issue but when i call my medical provider they say it is my insurance issue. Any time I ask if I can speak to someone with more knowledge for the medical appeals process I am denied. I have worked with over 7 agents and not one has been able to actually help me understand what I need to do. 0 have ever called me back when they said they would. Would NEVER recommend.

Aetna should not be able to deny surgery recommended by doctors. They should also not be able to decide to not cover prescriptions any longer.
People needing surgery have enough to deal with and should not have to deal with insurance trying to dictate medical coverage

If I could give zero starts I would. I needed to go to an urgent care, so I CALLED a representative at Aetna to verify which urgent cares were in network. The representative said that I could go to one that was 45 minutes away. I drove 45 minutes out of my way to go to this one particular urgent care when there are dozens closer to me. I was billed the out of network price, not the in network price. I called again, and was told that I would need to submit a dispute by mail. I submitted the dispute. They responded that they were standing by their original decision. I only went to this particular urgent care because an Aetna representative told me they were in network to then be charged the out of network price. Please don't tell people they can go to a provider if that provider is not in network. I don't have the money to throw away on out of network pricing. Thankfully my new job doesn't use Aetna. I will never use Aetna again.

I am retired and I have no choice when it comes to my insurance. Aetna is the worst insurance co. I have ever had especially now. I have had heart issues and my insurance changed mid stream Right now my two cardiologists say that my condition will greatly improve if I got a Watchman. I have been denied and we have sent pictures of my bleeding issues incuding 2 ER visits with uncontrolable nose bleeding. They stuffed something like a tampon up my nose and inflated it. Had to walk around with that and tubes coming out of my nose for several days before seeing an ENT to remove it. I also have issues with dizziness and balance so I fall a lot. The last time I fell on my knees I slid into the wall, broke my glasses had to go for a brain CT and Xrays on my knee that were black and blur from just above my knee to my ankle. Also had a black eye and bump on my forehead. Because of this condition I can't get my cataract surgery or routine colonoscopy. I pray every day that nothing happens to me and I end up bleeding out. Sent pictures of me as soon as I got the denial letter 6 mo. ago. My doctors office still haven't heard anything from Aetna and neither have I. I just keep getting calls about having a visiting nurse like the hospice nurse my husband had just before he died of cancer..

Worst company ever. Completely screw you over then when they mess up just say sorry your screwed. I've never wanted to punch someone in the face so bad in my life. If I could give negative 5 stars I would, going to cancel and just go no insurance, will be better off

After an hour on the phone with Aetna, trying to get through to a person, they were unable to help me find a primary care doctor who is taking new patients. None of their information is updated on providers, wrong phone numbers, wrong information. They eventually referred me to someone who was not a doctor but a nurse practitioner. Entirely unhelpful.

I will never work for an organization that has Aetna as their health insurance provider ever again. Have had to change PCP more than once and out of pocket expenses are outrageous. Contributing at the HSA maximums do not come close to covering our out of pocket expenses for a relatively health family with Aetna. If you are an employer think twice because you will lose talent working with this company.
