am filing a formal complaint against Pitney Bowes regarding a misleading lease agreement that I was unknowingly locked into.
Recently, I contacted Pitney Bowes to inquire about returning my leased machine and canceling my contract, only to be informed that I was locked into a six-year lease—something I was never fully aware of. I was further told that my buyout cost would exceed $1,000, which is an unfair and excessive financial burden.
At no point was I made explicitly aware that I was committing to a six-year lease, nor do I recall knowingly or intentionally signing such an agreement. It appears that an electronic signature was used, but I was never clearly informed of the long-term commitment or its financial implications.
Bottom Line
I was never made fully aware that I was entering a six-year contract.
I did not knowingly or intentionally sign for this long-term lease.
Pitney Bowes should provide clear, verifiable proof that I gave informed consent to such a commitment.
Other customers have filed similar complaints, suggesting a pattern of misleading leasing practices.
Given these concerns, I am requesting a fair and reasonable resolution, including:
Immediate lease termination without excessive penalties.
A significant reduction in the buyout fee if lease cancellation is not possible.
A transparent review of how I was enrolled in this lease without my full awareness.Business Response

The original lease was signed in August 2020 and began in September 2020 for 39 months. The lease renewal was signed in February 2023 and began in December 2023 for 36 months. The lease is currently scheduled to end December 29, 2026. Both leases are attached.Initial Complaint

In August of 2023 (or maybe July), I had cancelled our Pitney Bowes postage machine. At the time, they would not get in touch with me to return the machine and I wound up filing a BBB complaint to get their attention so they would contact me. It was still months later before I received a label to return the machine and I thought it was done and over. But, in November of 2024, I received a statement from Pitney Bowes stating that we had a balance in our Reserve Account that was used to refill the meter (almost a year later!). The statement said that we had $501.54 and they had taken out $180 for an inactivity fee. They have subsequently taken out $5 per month since. I started trying to contact someone to see about getting our money and that fee refunded since our account had been closed over a year and they were just NOW sending me the statements. I opened a case but they just closed it and stated that the fees were non refundable. One guy told me over the phone that it was for a low balance but I stated that we had over $500 and that was not the case. The fee states that it's for inactivity. This is crazy as it is our money that we put in for postage that was not used so we should get it all back. I would like the money taken out in fees since we closed the account to be refunded.Business Response

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Pitney Bowes.
I have looked into your account and can see that you have been charged with the inactivity fee and service fee. The details of these charges are as below:
INACTIVITY FEE. If your Account has had no transaction activity for twelve (12) months from the later of the date of your last transaction or date of the last annual account maintenance fee charge. as applicable, you agree to pay an annual account maintenance fee of up to $180.
ACCOUNT SERVICE FEE. To service and provide your Account, we impose a fee of $5 per Statement Period. If at the end of each day in a Statement Period your Available Balance is equal to or exceeds $500, we will waive this account service fee for the applicable Statement Period.
When you contacted us your request was escalated and you were advised that these charges are non refundable.
I have further escalated this and can confirm these fee cannot be credited for the following reasons.
You would have been sent notification of the changes to your reserve account. I can see you had access to our online portal to view the balance of this account and the statements.
The equipment contract that was terminated is separate and distinct from
the Reserve Account which is a PB Bank product.
I can now see that you have requested a refund of the remaining balance and will receive a refund check.
Thank you

I was a customer of Pitney Bowes. I paid $13.77 monthly for meter and monies to a "Purchase Power" account when I ordered additional postage. This summer they attempted to severly hike rates and truthfully with email/pdfs we do not use postage that often and with poor economy this was expense that could be eliminated since they were going to near triple it. I cancelled all my accounts and mailed back by meter with their box and they received and confirmed receipt of meter 1st week of August 2024. You cannot call and speak to a human. All must be done with chat bots and service complaint tickets. I was told I owed nothing via these means and that I was all set. I then got bill for $23.08 and I had no equipment at that point so clearly not purchasing postage and hadn't in months and I was previously told everything was canceled and I owed nothing. They continue to e-mail me multiple times a month to which I respond I'm not a client please stop harassing me and I owe nothing. There is no human I can speak to. I get mail each month and they keep tacking on late fees and I put back in mail "return to sender - not a client - stop harassing me" Today I got email saying that I now owe $116.94 from the original $23.8 because of late fees and that they are turning me over to legal. Again I sent probably the 50th e-mail back explaining I have nothing of theirs and haven't in over 6 months I was told then I owed nothing. Go check records about this error and that it is harassment to continue to reach out to me when I have asked them repeatedly to stop. I do not have their equipment. I did not purchase postage in probably 9+ months. I was told I owed nothing last summer when I cancelled accounts and I would like them to zero this out and stop contacting me rather then continuing to harass me and add late fees. Please help. I have health issues, business is off from economy and I want them to leave me alone! I am wasting too much time and energy on these fraudulent fees.Thank yoBusiness Response

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Pitney Bowes.
There was an outstanding invoice of $11.99 which was due to a partial credit on your monthly rental, fees have then accumulated as payment was not received for this invoice.
I can confirm I have process relevant fee waivers and partial credits meaning you now have a zero balance on account **************** with nothing owed.
Thank you

I am satisfied with the response by Pitney Bowes "IF" they have truly and finally after 7 months zeroed my balance. However, I am concerned as I have been told this via chat conversations, Internat Pitney Bowes internal complaint tickets, etc. So, it's hard for me to believe. I am afraid in another 2 weeks I will get another invoice so I'm a little hesitant to fully close out this matter. I tried to login to their website to see if I could see this zero balance, but my credentials are no longer working that were working when I filed my BBB complaint. So, I am hopeful they have taken down my access because they have truly zeroed out my balance for meter rental and something they called Purchase Power which is how one would buy postage. I owed nothing and have not had their equipment since August and cancelled all accounts in July. So, when I get a paper invoice stating zero or no further communications from them continuing to harass me for monies I did not owe I will be happy with the resolution. Until a month has gone by without multiple forms of harassment from them I remain skeptical. If you have finally fixed the situation my utmost gratitude as it has been ridiculous and egregious the fraudulent fees they have attempted to charge and usurious interest/late fees for something I never owed are unfathomable. Thank you!Initial Complaint

Hello,
My name is ******* ******* and I am filing this complaint against Pitney Bowes Inc. I live in ** and contacted the *** in ** and they recommended that I file the complaint in *********** because that is where Pitney Bowes Inc is based. My husband ******* ******* passed away in October of 2024 and was using a postage machine in his office from Pitney Bowes. In cleaning out my husband’s office my son found the machine and contacted the company to end the lease and return the machine. Even though my husband had passed they said that to end the lease someone would have to pay 4 plus years of remaining lease payments which amounted to $3,400.The postage meter is currently at my house, it is not being used, and I would like for Pitney Bowes to take back their machine and end the lease. I’ve included a copy of the lease; which was clearly not filled out by my husband. The name of the business listed on the lease was ******* ******* **** but my husband was not a **** he was an ******** *****. There is no business named ******* ******* ***. The signature is a e-signature of his name written as ******* ******* ***, my husband always signed with his middle initial ******* * ******* ***. During the last years of his life he was undergoing aggressive treatment for late stage cancer the idea that he would knowingly and willingly sign a six year lease in 2023 that is unbreakable even after he passed away doesn’t make any sense. Both my son and I have tried to resolve this issue ourselves but have not been able to make any progress with Pitney Bowes. When I try to contact the company I cannot get someone on the phone. The automated system directs me to an online messaging service then hangs up the call. Any help the *** can offer in resolving this situation would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

I sold my business and no longer needed by Pitney Bowes Leased postal meter. I called their 800 number in early November 2024 and they sent me a box and shipping label to return the equipment. I asked about the postage we had loaded on the machine and they said when it was returned, they would put the money back on my business credit card. I shipped the equipment back and got confirmation, but the postage was not put back on my business credit card. I waited until early December when I got a Pitney Bowes Statement showing my ending Balance of $333.96, but still no refund on my business credit card. I thought the problem might be that the postage was put on the meter with an additional sub card to my business credit card under one of my employee's name, that was cancelled when she quit working for me. I tried to call the 800 number I used a month earlier, but now there is a computerized answering service that directs you to do all transactions on the website and you cannot get to a person. My problem was I cancelled all my business emails and now I cannot get on the website even though I have a login and password, because the multifactor verification is going to a cancelled email. Ater working several hours and calling every phone number Pitney Bowes has on the web, I wrote a letter in early December and sent it along with the attached statement to the *********** Home office Address. I asked that the send a refund check for the $333.96 made out to * * ******** ********* ****** and send it to the ** *** address on record. I have still not received the refund and still am unable to talk to a person at the company. I just want the refund to close my books. I know we are in an online world, but I can't be the only person that every cancelled an email. If I could talk to a CSR I probably would have settled all this back in early December. Thanks, *****Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: I can not open the link Pitney Bowes sent to secure the refund. It is not blue and clickable like a direct link should be. I know the money was put in my account but I need a direct link to fill out the refund information because I can no longer login to my account because the email associated with it has been cancelled and I cannot the complete the 2 factor verification. I could have had this done if there was a way to talk to a person, but the new computerized phone system just sends you to the website. Please send my a direct link to fill out the needed information and we should be good.
Sincerely,

We found two different accounts created using your name and address, but they have different phone numbers and email addresses associated with them. Both accounts were created in October 2023 but were never used after adding funds to the available postage balance. Those accounts are now closed, and we will advise the collections agency that those invoices are no longer valid.Customer Answer

I have a credit balance from my postage contract with Pitney Bowes (Purchase Power) of $139.66.
They have not sent me a refund check. They have no customer service phone number to call that gives you access to a human. Their chat line doesn't provide a solution. They don't recognize my email for me to possibly log into their system any longer. I sent them a letter weeks ago asking for a refund and haven't received any response.Business Response

Pitney Bowes has had a package for over 2 weeks with no update of shipping. I have tried to reach out via virtual assist on their site. It is no help robotic and never answers questions or connects you to where you need to be. I have tried Pitney Bowes "file a claim" on their site, again dead ends. I have tried reaching via telephone over 50 times. The phone number ***** *** ****, ************** are a complete easte of time. No customer service, no responses, dead end calls. is this even a real company, and if so how are they still in business.
The automated response always says contact the seller. I contacted the seller several times and they said the same thing the package is sent. when the tracking number is run it clearly states that they are the partner that has the package.Business Response
