I am a Humana patient and contacted Greenberg Dental in ****** ******* about dental care. I was told that I needed two crowns and that it would cost $1721.00, but that I could use my Humana benefits to help pay for the dental work. On February 16, 2023, I underwent the procedure. That year, Humana had provided me with a Flex card that could be used towards medical issues and that the value of the card was $750.00. Greenberg Dental processed the card and received the $750.00 towards the account and I was told that I was able to finance the balance of the account through a finance company named ******, which I did. While I was making monthly payments through ****** to satisfy the account balance, ********************** received an additional check from Humana for $848.00 that was applied to the account.. This was received and cashed by them on April 11, 2023 at their location at ****************************************************************************. With this check, Humana had satisfied $1598.00 of the original $1721.00, which left an outstanding balance of $123.00.Greenberg Dental did not notify me that they had received the additional payment from Humana and allowed me to continue paying the finance company an additional $643.60, which was satisfied on July 25, 2023. This financed amount resulted in an overpayment to Greenberg Dental of $520.60.I am now seeking your assistance in recovering this overpayment of $520.60 from Greenberg Dental. Please see uploaded attachment.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 02/06/2024

For clarification, the procedure cost outlined in my attachment of $1721 was provided to me by Humana as the allowable contracted cost.

We had the national billing director look over the account. Here are the results: Patient's portion should have been $1056.  If we add $643.60 (******) plus the $750 (patient CC payment) it totals $1393.30.  Subtract that and the $1056 he should have paid; he is left with a $337.30 credit. Billing will mail a check in this amount to the patient. Thank you

My son had to get some work done on his teeth including an extraction we went yesterday for the procedure. I explained to the dentist my son has high anxiety and I will need to be present, he could not wait any longer to get this extraction due to an abscess, the assistant called us back, where she proceeded to place the laughing gas on my son. We were trying to get him relaxed enough but unfortunately once the dentist came in, in an absolute rush did not speak to me or my son or help in calming my son, he then took a Qtip and put ****** on it put it on my sons gums, he did not wait until the Orajel took effect and proceeded to poke my son with the needle to put the Novocain, my son was screaming at this point saying that it hurt! The dentist did not wait at all to then grab his tool to extract the tooth, the novocain has yet to numb the area and my son felt every tug and pull he did to my son! it was as if the dentist enjoyed seeing my son suffer, he yanked the tooth, took his gloves off and just left the room! zero explanation, did not address me or comfort my son. I got zero instructions on what to do for aftercare, not sure if my son's injury because it felt like my son was assaulted at this point, not sure if my son will need antibiotics because he was left with a huge hole. The dentist's assistant was in shock as I was and apologized to me a lot, she said it should not have gone that way and her heat was aching of my son. This dentist should not be practicing with children at all if he does not have the patience for children. it was borderline child abuse and my son was extremely traumatized with this event I don't even know where to take him to be seen for his other teeth because he is terrified.

Greenberg Dental is dishonest and does not take accountability for their actions or mistakes. Greenberg Dental refuses to right their wrongs even after admitting fault. I was told on 1/2/2024 by *** the front desk manager that due to my new insurance I would be paying a total of $833 for the placement of an implant crown. I agreed to that amount and came in for my 8am dental appt on 1/3/2024. When I got there the dentist assistant went over the amount of my treatment plan which I will attach below. I signed off on it and agreed again to pay the $833. She was prepping to do my impression for the implant crown then she left out and came back and told me she had bad news and that the front desk messed up and that I would need to pay $1,716.00 that was quoted to me last year instead of the $833.00 and I asked why is that and she said that I needed to pay $1,100 for unspecified implant procedure instead of the $500 that was quoted to me this year plus the abutment and the crown. I asked what is this unspecified implant procedure for $1100/$500 that the insurance is not paying towards and couldn't get a clear answer other than that's a valid code we can use. I asked to speak to the office manager ****** and she said the front desk made a mistake and that's the cost. I told her then the company should have to eat the additional cost. I shouldn't have to pay for Greenberg Dental billing mistakes. She told me she can't change price. Tho the price for code D6199 has changed before from $1100 to $500 to back to $1100. I want to know exactly what the unspecified implant procedure code consist of and why was I never charge it before. I have 2 implant crowns and never was charged this fee. I only want to pay for what was quoted to me with my new insurance which is $833.00 anything after that Greenberg should show good faith and take care of the rest. I have been a long time and loyal customer to ********************** for over 15 years and this is completely unacceptable and unethical.

After a detailed review into this matter the attached treatment plan is the correct one that the office needs to use. For an implant the D6199 code was the Atlantis abutment upgrade. A better type of custom abutment made specifically by Atlantis.

      Customer Answer

This is reference to the Greenberg Dental & Orthodontics/ ***** West location. My daughter had some services performed and on 9/13/2023 a billing notice was mailed out with a $0.00 amount but asked us to give them a call to verify dental insurance. My daughters mothers made a few phone calls and left a couple voicemails with no returned calls. On 10/13/2023 another notice was mailed requesting us to call them to verify insurance again, which I attempted to call on November 1, 2023 at 3:27pm using the provided phone number ************ and to speak with ********. I left a message and as requested I provided the location, chart number, return phone number and reason for the call. I again called on November 6, 2023 at 11:04am using the office number which is ************, and left a similar voicemail. One 11/16/2023 another notice was received which included a hand written message stating that, "unable to verify your insurance. Call the office with insurance information or the balance will be your responsibility. Thank you." So again, on Dec. 5, 2023 at 2:36 pm I called the office using the ************ and left another voicemail, and then again on Dec. 8th, 2023 at 2:21 pm I called the same number and left a voicemail. This office has not returned any of my calls or my daughters mother's calls so one of us can provide Greenberg with the dental insurance, which I find odd because my daughter has had several appointments there, and there was never an insurance issue before and nothing has changed. I would just like someone from Greenberg to do their job and return my phone calls so I can provide them with the insurance information before I get a collection notice due to no fault of my own.

On 12/28/2023 I went to Greenberg Dental for a check up. After getting X-rays I was informed that I had two serious infections and major gapping in my bridge. The infections were due to the gapping in my bridge that I had gotten 4 years prior. The dentist informed me the dentist that preformed my bridge bonded it incorrectly. When I got my bridge done I was told it can last as long as ***** years with good dental hygiene. I take my teeth very seriously and have had plenty of work and money into making them look perfect and know the $1,000s I have spent being at the time of my bridge I did not have insurance. I was shocked when getting this information especially since it was done by a Greenberg dentist just at a different location. The new dentist informed me that this location had been closed but did not disclose why. He did not fail to say that the dentist most likely did not work for Greenberg anymore. I definitely hope not. The office gave me customer service phone number so I can file a complaint to see if I can get a discount for my new work I need done. Two root canals and new bridge. Without this treatment the infection will rupture and spread to my bones. The new cost estimate with insurance is $2800. Im waiting on a consult to make sure this is the only thing wrong. Im still waiting for a call back from customer service to see what can be done. Ive discussed what to do if there is no compensation from Greenberg and know my rights.

I received letter from Greenberg Dentist of balance 338.50(D4266 for tooth #4) on 11/2.On 12/5 I was advised this is the *** which was not covered under my policy even though when verified by Greenberg it was notated covered. I reached out via email to ******************* due to this *** & disputing it based on verification from the office as well as insufficient justification not being provided to Delta Dental. DD denied it due to how it was bundled. When submitted with D7953 & a clinical treatment narrative & D4266 it would be found as a standard of treatment, where as the **************** procedure for ridge preservation is deemed dentally/medically necessary. I requested an itemized billing for D6199 Unspecified Implant ******** ********************* Unspecified Implant ******** B/R for services rendered on 8/8. Neither of these were submitted. DD states when providers bill D6199 & are denied based on 564 or 9WA-they require a clinical treatment narrative. I am disputing both D6199 based on the *************** of Endodontists CDT guidelines state the procedure codes include materials & are not subject to a separate payment.D7953 for services provided on 3/7 was never submitted to DD. On 12/5 I was advised by Greenberg that I will now work with their Dentist to complete the implant process in which this is a separate treatment plan & cost. When questioned by myself what they mean 'a separate cost' they were unable to locate the treatment plan that was supposed to be created prior to the start of my initial procedure. I'm in the middle of this implant process & have no choice but to continue to finish. This is a lack of transparency in providing the cost of the procedure before I agreed upon initiation. This raises concerns about ethical & professional standards within this practice per ******* Bill of Rights. I find it ethically & professionally inappropriate to be held responsible for payment referring to Treatment Plan for services to be provided 1/2/2024.

I started an implant process with Greenberg Dental that took 8 months to complete and wanted to wait until all claims to my Dental Insurance provider were sent to find out what is actually owed. Every visit that I had during this process, I was told that I had to pay before they would send claims to the insurance or they wouldn't provide service to me. I asked if I could pay after receiving my explanation of bennifits and was declined. I told Greenberg, if there's a difference when I receive my final explanation of bennifits that I want my money back on my card as fast as they steal it from me and they happily said that's fine. I now have all my bills, receipts and explanation of bennifits with a difference of $1585. I tried asking a billing rep at the office to explain it and was told that I have to call a phone number about it. I called the phone number, but the message states that this number is for people that receive their bill by mail or an insurance company. I've never revived a bill by mail, they hand it to me when they make me over pay every visit. I left 3 voicemails with full contact info and the final voicemail with a threat to file a complaint with BBB and still nothing. I reached out to my Dental Insurance company since the automated system said that they can call. They had me file a grievance form and tried to reach them for a month with no response. There were a few times that Greenberg told me that they're going to bill me instead of my insurance because it's cheaper. I never agreed to this, this is why I have insurance, so they pay some of it. They're scamming the system because they know the charges that they are billing me for are not valid and would be declined from my insurance company. They're very shady! Greenberg never made a single appointment on time for 20 yrs and still can't book an appointment out past 3 months. They also recommended many services not needed several times and should be punished!

On 8/1/2022, I contracted Greenburg Dental Orthodontics to provide services for Invisalign for my 14-year-old daughter. I paid the contracted amount of 1,908.08 in full, with the expectation of services being rendered (24 months) at the contracted rate. However, on May 4, 2023, upon my daughter's visit to the office, we were informed that a rate increase must be paid immediately with a balance difference of 1,373.92 by the front desk representative. I then conveyed that I had paid the full contracted balance and would like a return of funds or mitigation of the requested amount. I was told that I would not receive a refund and my daughter did not get services per the contract.

Additionally, on multiple occasions, when attempting to schedule appointments with the office, no appointments were available. In which, we were told that the office has changed hours to only 2 business days per week.

Please contact the company to request a refund of the monies paid.

Thank you for your assistance with this matter

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

      Thank you for your response!
However, additional funds were demanded to satisfy the new terms of the
contract. The office would not even allow my daughter to proceed with treatment
until a new contract was signed with the balance (witnessed were present). As you
suggested, the error was your office mistake, not mine or my daughter’s.
However, her treatment was being penalized due to the office error.

      Furthermore, thank you for acknowledging
my insurance policies. However, I have always had the same insurance companies
(***** *** ***** ******** Therefore, there was no new development. Both
insurances were on file with Greenburg Dental as the office was billing both
policies (as evidenced by insurance payments, please see the attached
document). Please note that I have spoken with the Insurance company as they
have been initiating scheduled payments to Greenburg Dental.

      Thank you for “throwing your
hat into the ring for a resolution”, as you stated in your synopsis. I am
requesting a refund as the treatment period was only 8 months as stated and
acknowledged in your answer above. I have initiated treatment with another
office due to the delays in treatment, Therefore, I request the remaining funds
to be refunded back to my ******** ******* card or be sent via U.S Mail to the
      address on file **** ******** ******** ********* ** ****** as I paid in full upfront
for 24 months of service for my daughter totaling $1,908.08.

      Furthermore, this situation has
caused my daughter's treatment to revert backward. It was very frustrating that
Greenberg Dental could not remediate this matter. In which, I made 6 attempts
to remediate the issue before contacting the BBB for additional support.

As a business, at this point,
Greenburg Dental is billing my insurance and has been paid in full totaling
$1,908.08 from me ***** *********, and is not providing any services. Again, I ask
that the monies owed to me are refunded to remediate this matter.

Thanks for your response, as I do appreciate it. I apologize if I misinterpreted what I was told regarding your insurance policies. In any event, my supervisor informed me that the Greenberg billing dept. had essentially resolved the financial situation, but I honestly, I do not know (or understand...) the details of that. In any event, since you have decided to seek treatment elsewhere, I guess this really doesn't matter. Please understand that I do not have the authority to authorize a refund and as I mentioned previously, I have been informed this is not going to be an option. So, unfortunately, I don't see how the situation can be resolved. My supervisor's position is that the funds paid are equivalent to the services provided during the 7-8 months your daughter was being seen in our office, particularly in light of the setup/lab fee involved with constructing her initial series of aligners. I wish I could offer a more optimistic response.

      Sincerely,

Over the last 1+ year, I have been receiving Invisalign treatment from Greenberg Orthondinics. I moved recently and the website states that you may switch Greenberg offices at any time and at no charge. I have some treatment left and the doctor refuses to send the the rest of the retainers to the new location. I now live hours away and cannot go back to the original office to finish treatment. I have called many times to resolve this issue and have gotten different answers. I have heard that they “can and it’s no problem”, then “the doctor doesn’t want to”, and then “it’s not their policy”. They have never provided me with a copy of this policy and the website says differently. They have been nothing but rude and make me wait 30+ minutes for every appointment.

In the message the patient was told that the doctor wanted to see him one last time and deliver the remaining trays that are in that office.  Once that was done the shipping would be changed on all future trays so they would be delivered to the new office.  The patient had a scheduled appointment in July that he reschedules to the beginning of August.

I was informed that I needed a bridge. The total amount would be approx $1756.00, which I did not have at the time to pay for all of it. I this was February 2023. I paid $1250.00 ($450 on one card, and $800 on my debit card) and would pay the remaining when we started working on the tooth. This past May they did the temporary, I was charged $300. Thinking this was part of the $1756, I paid it. It was not, this was an additional charge I was not told about when they discussed the total treatment plan in February. "I don't know why it was not included", is the response from the front desk I received. "You can call the billing department and have the money refunded". That would be great if someone would answer or return my call. Since my May appointment, I have been calling to get my $1250, refunded. No one picks up or returns calls.
