1 starOn November 18th 2022, I reserved a compact car at Dollar LAX with a quote of $58.78 per day for 2 days. After waiting 65 minutes in line I was so much in a hurry to get out for an important meeting in town that I didn't realize I had been upgraded to a sub-compact at an additional cost of $45 per day. I presumed that by NOT OFFERING THE CAR I REQUESTED AND SHOWING ME A DIFFERENT CAR THAT THIS MUST BE A FREE UPGRADE. Having attained Delta Airlines Million Mile Flyer Status, I should know a filthy auto rental switch when I experience one. I wrote Dollar officially to reverse this charge and the company refused! Two days later on November 20th, 2022, still seething from my Dollar LAX ripoff, as part of the same trip, I walked majestically to the Dollar counter at Oakland International Airport to pick up A PREPAID RESERVATION; Lo and behold there were six or seven of us with prepaid reservations that were asked to wait 2-3 hours for vehicles to become available. No apologies rendered! We were simply asked to make alternative arrangements if we could not wait. One lady told me she had already been waiting for 3 hours....with two more to go!! So you see, Dollar Car Rental reserves the right to slip an unneeded upgrade at almost twice the cost of my initial reservation for a vehicle that ordinarily should not have cost more than $10 more, and on the same trip, due to an unfulfilled prepaid reservation, force me to scramble for another vehicle from another rental company at a much higher cost than my prepaid Dollar reservation. I thought one prepays to essentially guarantee the reservation?? Not at Dollar!!! I am done with Dollar! So too are every member of my family; if I have to make a fool of myself sharing my experience with friends and colleagues and anybody else who cares to listen, so be it!Review fromTony k.

1 starWorst experience with car rental ever, first off I went there cause i live locally just to rent a bigger suv to move my son from Florida so I needed cargo space. This place over books there cars and has no idea what's avaliable so I get in line for over 2 hrs to get to the counter and they say we ran out of cars it will be an extra 4 hour wait. So I wait cause I need the vehicle , then after they call me out to get car they say we'll we don't have any suvs but this small chevy trax with no cruise control. So then I ask will I be refunded for the extra amount I paid for a large suv they said no and refused, also since I ordered from a 3rd party they charged me and the 3rd party charged me. So I got stuck driving a no cruise control subcompact suv to pick up my son tried 3 other thrifty all of them to say they have nothing and the original place that rented you the car would have to resolve it. I will never ever rent from thrifty, dollar or hertz ever again. I'll pay extra to use a different company. And I will spread the word to everyone.Review fromLaura W

1 starThere is a reason that Dollar Rent a Car is at the ********* Airport isn't listed with the better business bureau. I booked my reservation online for less than $400 and was emailed my receipt which showed over $30/day in add on I didn't authorize that resulted in my credit card being charged double the rate I agreed to online. I was never given a receipt that showed my charges when i left the counter and signed pen pad. When I tried to resolve the issues over the phone with customer service, they present no option to speak to a customer service agent to resolve the issue. I believe this is entirely intentional due to agents adding unauthorized add-ons. When I tried to resolve the issue with the returns manage basically denied the practice and heavily insinuated I was lying. Like any rational person would agree to double charges associated with their rental car agreement online. My total bill was over $800 over half the charged we add-on added by the agent that I didn't Knowingly agree to. I would strongly discourage anyone from renting from Dollar Rent a Car in *********.Review fromANTHONY S

1 starThis is the worst place ever to rent from. I made a reservation in Atlanta and when I arrived, they told me I had to wait an hour and a half for a car. I got the car a half hour later and returned the car the next day as scheduled. I received my bill via email a couple days later and was charged for a week rental. This took me two calls and over an hour to resolve. Don't rent from this place and don't rent from Thrifty or Hertz either because they are all the same company. 1 starI showed up for my reservation on time today. I was told that they were 'behind in getting vehicles cleaned' and that it would be ***** minutes.I asked if there were any other class of car that was ready now. She said yes, you could upgrade for $25 more per day. So, Dollar wants me to pay for their ineptness if I want to leave on time. I declined and ended up waiting an hour and a half!Just mind blowing that they didn't upgrade me to the next class available and expected me to wait or pay for their inventory issues.This is how much Dollar/Thrifty values their customers!Review frommohamed a

1 starUnfortunately Dollar Rental should not receive 1 star, however 0 stars was not an option. I do not recommend their service for the following reason:1: VIOLATION OF PRIVACY. Upon completion of my rental, my receipts were sent to an unauthorized party! The party forwarded me the receipts asking why they received them. Although the initial reservations were emailed to the correct email address that I provided, my receipts were emailed to another email that I did not provide. I do know the individual who owns that email but I did not wish for them to be aware of my private information or my travels. 2: OVER SELLING & DECEPTION. When I made the reservation, I declined all additional coverages because I did not require them. However when I went to retrieve the vehicle the representative insisted that I take additional coverage and was a bit aggressive with their selling. I was deceived into selecting the pre gas, that I had declined previously, and it cost me additional $101. 3. WASTE OF TIME. The line was so long, likely do to all the representatives over selling to each customer, that it took about one hour to get to the checkout counter. The pictures posted from previous patrons, showing the long lines outside, was exactly how it was on the day I retrieved the rental. The wait was insanely delayed! My elderly and disabled mother, whom I traveled with, was told to wait outside. I understand, COVID. But this would not have been so bad if it wasnt sweltering outside and she did not have to wait an entire hour outside!4. OVERCHARGED. I paid $800 for a 7day **** rental. Extremely overpriced! Not much more to say about that.5. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I contacted customer service to inform them of the privacy breach and they insisted that I gave them the other parties email addres, which I certainly did not! Why would I do that? 1 starTerrible customer service. I spent 2-3h in advance of our trip trying to sort out a few details to ensure a smooth pickup as we were traveling with an infant. I was sent back and forth and received conflicting information. Then, upon picking up our rental car, we found that it reeked of smoke, to the extent that the adults were nauseated and our infant was exposed to second-hand smoke. We were not able to swap cars and they were booked and we had received the last car of our type. We reported the problem and were assured it would be documented but upon calling the following day, it had not been documented. The representative then passed me on to several others with no resolution and the supervisor never called back as promised. I tried again later in the week with similarly poor customer service. 1 starWorst car rental company I have ever used! I thought I would try them out as their price was cheaper. I arrived to the Dollar counter at the *********** about 15 minutes early. I understand upselling is part of the business but these people were extremely aggressive and DISHONEST! They kept trying to sell me insurance and I told them no. Reputable car rental places usually leave it at that and move one but not Dollar! They lied about what would happen if I didn't have it, implied it was against the law not to have it, told me my credit card wouldn't cover anything, I stuck to my guns and they moved on to the next upsell and the next. I finished at the counter and then waited an HOUR AND A HALF to get my car! There were many people in the same boat and very, very few places to sit down. I ended up with the others, leaning against the wall in a poorly airconditioned room. A Dollar person brought out water bottles and joked that they were $5. We were not amused! When I got the car, there were numerous deep gouges. Reputable rental agencies walk around with you, point out damage, and then you sign off on it. Dollar did not so I made sure to take pictures and let them know I did. After my trip I got an email for a survey and told them all my complaints. A month later I got a response saying they were sorry about the condition of the car but addressed nothing else. I replied that they missed the point of bad, dishonest service and that I would never use them again. No response and I will NEVER. EVER. USE. THEM. AGAIN!!!!
