I picked up a rental car with 3/4 tank of gas and returned the car with a 3/4 tank of gas. Both pick up and drop-off were agent less. However, hours later I received a $98 fuel charge. I went through the process outlined on their Website, including providing a receipt for the gas that included the time and location of gas, 15 minutes before the return 2 miles away.

After waiting a month for response, the customer service agent "Love F" asked for the receipt, which was in the email she responded to. So, I attached it again. She then replied two weeks later and said the receipt was not enough and that I needed to provide proof of a "transaction to fill up the gas tank prior to picking up the vehicle." How can someone put gas in a car they haven't yet taken possession of?

The process was slow and obstructive to reaching any resolution for the customer and Dollar did not refund me the charge. I ultimately had to dispute the charge on my credit card.

I was the victim of a bait and switch when I was ***** miles from home and traveling with my elderly parents. I had pre-paid for my car to avoid having to stand in the long counter lines. My car was "not available" when we arrived so the girl at the counter offered us a different car to avoid having to wait. She completed the paperwork, asking me questions. I DID NOT agree to any of the additional coverages that she offered, and answered no. I was charged $221.77 and I assumed that was the price of the replacement car. When I received my charge card statement, I saw that that was IN ADDITION to the pre-paid price on the original vehicle. Every time I try to get them to understand, they insist that because I signed for the car, I agreed to all their charges and terms. I cannot reach anyone by telephone, and have tried to resolve this several times. VERY unhappy and unsatisfied with dollar car rental and VIP Cars.

My Dollar experience is deplorable! I rented through Priceline for a car at SRQ, receiving a great rate by paying 60% upfront. At the rental counter, the Dollar agent told me that I would need to pay for an extra driver despite this being a perk of being a Dollar member. I said, "OK." Unfortunately, we needed to shorten our trip and return to a different airport (IAD). When I spoke to the phone agent, I was given a final price that included drop-off fees. I asked him three times if what I paid at turn-in would reflect my upfront 60% paid to Priceline. He said, "Yes." ***** times. I'm sure you know the rest of the story. At turn-in, I was again told the amounts would be reconciled in my final bill. They wouldn't give me a receipt on the spot, and I had to race to the airport. The end result is that the money I paid to Priceline has vaporized, and Dollar is taking no responsibility. Unconscionable!

I made a rental in advance at Philadelphia airport and tried to check in on line but that wouldn’t work. That would have been a great option since I was traveling with my wife, daughter and two granddaughters aged six weeks and 18 months. I ended up waiting in line for over an hour while the little ones were tired and fussy. We finally were given a car which wasn’t the one we reserved and after cooling the car down since it was 86 degrees we finally got our luggage loaded and headed to the gate only to discover they had given us the wrong car. The lady at the gate was rude and made us back up along with the others behind us and unload our stuff which made the kids even fussier. Finally got another car and went through the same process and after two hours we got on the road. On the day of the return I went to load our luggage and couldn’t get the key fob to unlock the car. Figured the key fob needed a battery so I replaced it without any luck. Called Dollar and they said they sent a signal to the car and said it had a dead battery and would send someone out to jump it. They told me not to stop the car since it might not start. I asked them about the full tank of gas I needed to return it with and they said not to worry about it because they will take care of it. I arrived at the Dollar facility 5 hours ahead of my return time and explained the situation to an employee and that I was instructed to leave the car running and not worry about the gas but we were running late due to the delays with the jump start. The employee seemed to understand and drove the car with us and dropped us off at the airport. When I returned home I noticed that they charged me $90 for gas and an extra day and one hour for returning the car late even though we returned it 5 hours early. Will try to get my money back for the extra charges that are bogus but not holding much hope. Do yourself a favor and rent anywhere but Dollar.

I wish it was possible to give zero stars. Customer service was awful, with the woman behind the desk repeatedly telling us that she didn't want to be there and no one wanted to work there so why should she care. It gets worse as our Expedia reservation with them suddenly would have cost a huge deposit versus a credit card, and we were told by this woman that we would have to get our money back from Expedia and open a new rental agreement. We opened the new agreement (which we were also told we had to buy their insurance and couldn't use our own car insurance), and got our money back from Expedia. Everything seemed alright in the end... until 6 months later when Dollar tried to charge my credit card randomly and I had to get it replaced due to fraud. Only to start receiving letters from a collection agency regarding the Expedia charge that Dollar told us to get back from Expedia. All of this almost a year after I rented a single car! Why wasn't our original agreement closed properly? Guess she didn't feel like doing it but needless to say I will NEVER rent with Dollar again and implore you to stay away!

My group and I had a terrible time with Dollar/ Thrifty renting companies. We prebooked a vehicle 3 months in advance, and when we went to pick it up they, didn't have the vehicle! Now that is annoying but not the end of the world. They can give us another car for the price we agreed upon right? WRONG SIR! They gave us a vehicle that is $40 extra a day, and had to pay an extra $80 in hidden fees & expenses on top of that even though we already paid online. The vehicle also had a broken headrest in the back that didn't want to stay up and a finicky trunk door sensor that kept saying it was open when in fact it was not. Now here is something that this garbage company will try to pull on you. If you purchased basic coverage online through economy booking, DO NOT purchase coverage at the desk when you pick up the car. They will try to hide it as a basic standard coverage for the vehicle even though you already had coverage through the online purchase. Simply put: paying double the amount. That was an extra $80 a day we had to pay at the desk when we picked it up even though we were already paying it online. In total we had to pay $600 extra on top of our existing $400 purchase!! In short do not work with these sleazy no-good dumb dumb heads. The vehicle you purchased is not 100% guaranteed and they don't do anything for the inconvenience except take more money out of your pocket. Sincerely, A guy that was not happy

I picked up a car at the Newark airport. The bluetooth and Apple car play didn't work. Then I got on the interstate and when I reach 60 mph the entire car started shaking. My daughter helped me call customer services (since hands-free calling and directions were not possible). I was told I could go to the White Plains airport to exchange the car and given a case number. When I got to White Plains the workers were very rude and didn't have a car for me. I called back in to customer service (who had told me that had plenty of cars available at this location) and they couldn't help me. I asked to speak to a manager, and one was not available. I asked to have a manager call me; that was 5 days ago and I have not received a call. I had to drive the car and could not drive over 55 mph on the interstate. I did not feel safe at all. I will be disputing the charges with my credit card company and will never use Dollar, Thrifty, or Herz again.

Hertz and Dollar Car Rental have not helped in the slightest bit locating my son's lost items he stored in the back hatch of an SUV. No one will speak with me on the phone regarding the vehicle's location so I can go get the documents. I can't speak to anyone other than the Tucson Airport desk who told me the vehicle had been put aside so it could be searched. That was on Monday. I'm now told the vehicle has been rented out but no one can tell me where it's headed and when it will be returned. All numbers go to a general call center overseas. 0 stars.

If I could give zero stars I would. Upon receiving the vehicle, I noticed that it was not adequately cleaned. The exterior appeared unwashed, the driver's side rug was dirty and had a noticeable hole, and the interior roof had a significant ***** stain, suggesting it had been subjected to a spill or something spraying.Additionally, as I was on a work trip an hour away, I was unable to return the vehicle the same day. When I reached out to inquire about a replacement, I encountered difficulties in obtaining clear guidance and felt that my concerns were not addressed effectively.I definitely do not suggest renting from them.

We loved our rental process until the return, where we were charged a full tank of gas even though the return employees confirmed with us that there was a malfunction in the gas tank door opening and we couldn't access the tank to fill it up. Three separate employees tried and confirmed the issue and stated that we would not be charged the full amount but only charged the local rate (around $3/gal) for the tank. We were told a manager would contact us within the hour and no one called. I can't find any information to contact this location. We were charged the full amount ($10/gal) to fill it up and I have submitted multiple complaints and have not received anything other than an automated response.
