They offered a $1 trial then when I called to cancel a few days later they said they removed my card information and my subscription when I asked. I was then charged $29 for 3 months when i explicitly asked to have the my card information removed which i can still see on the account and the subscription to be cancelled.Business Response

Searching for an apartment online and directed to do a background check through checkpeople.ccom. Used a debit card to pay the $1.00 advertised fee for the service which was posted and debited to my bank account. A subsequent check of my bank statement revealed that two additional unauthorized charges were posted to my account and paid by my bank. The charges referred to are $6.95 on 1/30/25 and $29.17 on 2/4/25. Once they obtain my card number they continued posting unauthorized charges. As a result my bank suggested that I cancel my debit card to prevent additional unauthorized charges. This business engages in deceptive billing practices and should be held accountable. I have an issue with check **************************. I signed up for a free trial and access to a couple of background check reports. I was notinformed that I would be charged $30 by this organization. It was not indicated when I signed up that it was a free trial. I that this is false advertisement. If you were going to charge people for a free trial, let them know. Its a free trial I dont want to see ghost charges on my card that I didnt know about a week or two later. Paid $1 trial fee, and cancelled my subscription less than an hr after doing a check on 1 person. Found out recently they have been charging me $29 for 3 months, and another fee for pdfs/reverse search subscription unsure of that charge because I won't get that info for 35 days. I had to make an account just to login because I cancelled the subscription 3 months prior. I called their number to get a refund and they claimed I didn't call to cancel my subscription but my call history shows I did call them on 10/12/24. They also claim my account started on 10/18/24 and only authorized purchase wasn't made till 10/18/2024, my account and purchase was made on 10/12/24. I have emails that also back this up, but they did not send me an email verifying I cancelled subscription. I got an email that they cancelled my subscription today, after I told them I was going to call back after I found my emails and call log.Business Response

I had signed up for a 7 day trial for $1. No where in the fine print does it state that they will charge your card the full membership price of $29.17. The site advertises a $1 charge to find information, which is really a ploy to get you to buy their $29 membership, which you then have to jump through hoops to cancel, instead of just being able to do it on their own website, leaving you to need a representative of the company to resolve any issue.Cancel my membership and don't leave extra charges to be found in the fine print. On 6/29/24, I utilized the website site of ************************** of *******, ** and paid a one-time fee of $1.00.Upon review of my credit card statement for the month of June, I was also charged an additional fee on 6/30/24 for $6.95.Also, charged for the month of July of 2024, a $4.00 on 7/4/24 and $6.95 for 7/29/24.For the month of ****** 2024, checkpeople continued to charge my credit card on 8/6/24 for the amount of $29.16 and on 8/29/24 for $6.95. I contacted my credit card company to report ************************** charges as fraudulent. Fees for ****** were fraudulent and reversed. I was issued a new credit card. However, ************************** continued to charge my new card in Septemer 2024. I was charged on 9/5/24 for a fee of $29.16 and 9/29/24 for the amount of $6.95.Checkpeople continued to charge my credit card in the month of October on 10/5/24 for $29.16 and 10/29/24 for $6.95.I contacted my credit card company once again and was issued a new card.However, ************************** continued to charge my new card again for the month of November 2024, on 11/5/24 for $29.16 and on 11/29/24 for $6.95.For the month of December 2024, I was charged on 12/5/24 for $29.16.I contacted my credit card company again to dispute all charges. I was instructed by my credit card company to contact the vendor directly to see if they would reverse all of above-mentioned charges instead of being issued a new ******* credit card company also blocked ************************** to avoid any further charges to my credit card.On 12/27/24, I contacted ************************** customer service line to request a reversal of all of the monthly fees I was charged listed above. I was informed by ************************** they would only reverse only the last two charges for 12/5/24 in the amount of $29.16 and for 11/29/24 in the amount of $6.95 ******* a customer, I utilized this vendor one-time on 6/29/24.
