My experience with Marriott Vacation Club (MVC) in Orlando, FL, has greatly disappointed me. The sales pitch I attended was, I found out years later, filled with false promises and a lack of transparency that has left me feeling scammed. I was led to believe that MVC ownership was a wise investment backed by the Marriott brand. However, over time I realized that this so-called investment had no value.
The sales executive, Dawn VonGraff, omitted crucial details, such as the fact that the MVC points expire unless actively managed EARLY in the year. I almost lost $10K due to this hidden expiration policy. It took me 2 years of accumulating mortgage points to be able to go on a single cruise, highlighting the lack of value in my supposed investment.
When I sought to alleviate the financial burden by selling my MVC ownership, I had to retire 2 years early to care for ailing, aged parents after my wife’s death; I discovered that Marriott was no longer buying back mortgages, despite their sales-pitch assurances I was investing in the future. I thought, okay, I’ll sell it to someone else. Instead, I found the market was flooded with MVC properties selling for next to nothing, reinforcing my sense of being scammed. There is literally NO VALUE to my investment.
The ever-escalating maintenance fees and my newly understood potential for burdening my children with this financial obligation in the event of my death were never disclosed during the sales presentation. These undisclosed costs and risks and the need for more financial transparency during the sales pitch made it clear that MVC knowingly operates deceptively. I have been a Marriott champion for decades and have never felt so betrayed by a brand.
MVC is no more than a glorified PONZI SCHEME. The promises of a worthwhile investment and luxurious vacations are merely illusions. You can do FAR better online shopping for travel and cruise deals. Learn from my costly mistake, and don’t buy into the hoopla.Marriott Vacations Worldwide

I'm sorry to hear of the challenges Matthew ******* is having with his ownership. At the point-of-sale Mr. ******* signed and initialed that the purchase was not for investment purposes and only for personal use, as well as the understanding that we have a buyback program, but it is not guaranteed and depends on business needs. The purchase documents also indicate that the points have an expiration date.Review fromCJ

5 starsOur family have been enjoying being a part of the Marriott Vacation Club family since 1996.
Grand Vista was the first timeshare we purchased ni 1996. Since then, we have purchased three more-time shares. Hilton Head and two in Singer Island at Ocean Point. We remember when there was only one building in Singer.
We enjoy planning our yearly family vacations at our favorite destinations
Thank you, Ethan ******, for being the smile at Grand Vista as it shines through every one of the employees on the resort. We love being a part of the Marriott Vacation Club family.Review fromChris P

Marriott, oh Marriott, where do I start? Let’s see, your sales staff told us we’d have a “personal assistant” to help book and schedule trips, yet they’re never available and they ignore our calls/texts. Aside from that, we’ve tried booking on our own and there’s never anything available. We were also pitched, that we’d have free car rental, and a $75 Resort Voucher, but when we tried to utilize this benefit, we were told it was one or the other and not both (so many lies to keep track of). The salespeople also told us that we’d be able to use this for rental income to help offset costs, and it wouldn’t be an issue doing this because Marriott partners with ******. All around this was the worst experience of my life, and I wish we’d never formed this relationship with Marriott. This is like making a deal with the devil. Keep your soul, do not let Marriott take it.Marriott Vacations Worldwide

According to our records, Mr. and Mrs. ********** purchased 1,250 club points in the Marriott Vacation Club ABOUND program on November 17, 2022 with first year occupancy in 2023. In order to make reservations, or for assistance with maximizing the use of their club points, Mr. and Mrs. ********** should contact our Owner Services office at 800-845-4226. All reservations must be arranged through Owner Services as our sales executives are a dedicated resource for hosting previews for guests who are at the resort. Owner Services has hundreds of associates whose sole purpose is to help our owners plan memorable vacation experiences. Reservations can be arranged up to 13 months in advance and requests are honored on a first come, first served basis, subject to availability. In appreciation for their time of participating in a sales preview Mr. and Mrs. ********** received an AVIS car rental voucher and $75 in resort credit.
Our sales executives do not make any representations as to the rental, resale or investment potential of vacation ownership interests. Mr. and Mrs. ********** received a thorough Quality Assurance Checklist wherein they agreed in writing that the sole purpose for purchasing club points was for their own personal vacation enjoyment.
A manager from our corporate Customer Advocacy office has received a letter from Mr. and Mrs. ********** and will be in touch to address any remaining concerns.Review fromLynne S

1 starDo not buy a timeshare with Marriott. They are a huge scam. If you come across a salesman, Chad P******, RUN! He will ask questions about your personal life and "relate" to you on so many levels just to get you comfortable enough to trust him. He feeds you lie after lie until you agree to buy a timeshare. Then, he's nowhere to be found. Yes, he'll text you, and once you ask questions, he'll give you three-worded answers and say he will call to explain but never does once he realizes you know the truth about how the timeshare works. This company & its employees are deceitful and are only out for the money to be made. They do not care about their customers.Review fromChristopher B

Owning a timeshare was supposed to be an effortless, enjoyable experience, but it's been the exact opposite. Since becoming an owner in 1993, we have only been able to use our timeshare 3 times. After 5-6 hours in the presentation, we finally caved and purchased a timeshare, we were told exactly where to sign and not given enough time to read the contract. The salesman told us this was only a formality and that everything had already been explained to us, and once we got home, we could go over it again. We've never been able to book a trip that works with our schedule, we always had to work around whatever Marriott had available at the time, which was not the deal we agreed to. We also live on a fixed income and cannot afford the maintenance fees which go up 4% every year (this was also not told to us). Marriott is a deceitful company who's main focus is money, I do not recommend them to anyone. If you want to actually take vacations, stay away from a timeshare. Marriott claims to not be in the timeshare business; yet on the Vacation Club website, it is possible to book rooms using Vacation Club Points. Obviously, Marriott is afraid to be identified with its own creation and, when I originally purchased the timeshare was told how great an investment it was due to the fact that it was backed by Marriott.Marriott Vacations Worldwide

1 starDon’t waste your hard earned money by purchasing a Marriott timeshare. The sales people will make false promises to get your money. We bought into the points system ten years ago & were finding that we were unable to book barely any of the resorts 13 months out. We went to a presentation in April 2023 & were told that we were unable to find any availability for bookings because we were at the executive level. Keep in mind that we had 7500 points at that time. We were told that if we bought more points then there would be more inventory available to us. The representative said, “You have to pay more to get more. That’s how the world works.” We went ahead & bought more points for a total of 11,500 points which moved us to the presidential level. After signing the contract, we knew that we only had ten days to cancel. So we logged onto the MVC site and were still finding that we were unable to book anything. Our representative said this was because we were in a reconciliation period and to trust him that everything would be okay. Of course, this supposed reconciliation period lasted way past the cancellation period. It is now about three months after our purchase and we are still in the same situation despite spending thousands of dollars later. For example, I went on the site at the 13 month mark & plugged in 26 resorts for May 2024 and only 2 were available and those were two of their least desirable properties. I did this for June 2024 & July 2024 & had the same results. Contacted our representative, who said this shouldn’t be happening & he’ll look into it. No calls back despite us reaching out to him multiple times. Upon further research we found out that week owners get first priority & points owners do not. When you include maintenance fees & money we put in, we could stay at a 5 star resort every year until I die. Save your money & don’t fall prey to this scam.Review fromChristopher B

Marriotts process is very unclear and will leave you with an unsettling feeling in the pit of your stomach. We were pitched all these great things to do, benefits, and outlined what being an owner looks like. It wasn’t until after signing the contract, and doing some research on our own, that we’ve found every benefit they claimed came with ownership to be false.
We were told our maintenance fees were fixed and would not increase. Yet they’ve gone up about 5% every year, which is an absurd amount for something you can’t ever use. We were told it’d be a QUICK meeting yet were there for over 3 hours. We declined their offers numerous times, but they would not let us leave until we signed. The signing was only 30 minutes long if that. That’s how badly they pressure you, and once they know you’re going to sign, they want you out of there as quickly as possible.
I would NOT recommend Marriott to anyone!Marriott Vacations Worldwide

I'm sorry to hear of Christopher ******* concerns during his sales tour. The Maintenace Fees are not decided by Marriott Vacation Club, they are agreed upon the Owner's Associations. In the purchase documents, Mr. ***** signed and initialed that he understood the Maintenace Fees do have the potential to increase. I understand the sales tours can be lengthy due to the information we would like to provide to potential owners and questions that can be asked during the tour.Review fromTerrance B.

1 starI stayed at the Crystal city Marriott at Reagan national airport, and received the most disrespect from staff, after confronting
them multiple times and filling a complain with the 1800 number, they proceed to tell me that I have been banned from staying there due to supposed issues with payments in the past, and also being rude to staff when in reality I was told misinformation about extending my stay and could have sworn I am the paying customer so of course I would be upset with staff when they are being rude and I’m paying to stay here. Spoke with the “operations manager” Derrick who basically told me he’s siding with his staff, even after telling him I have had issues with his staff being rude. I would never advise anyone to stay here after I spent so much money at this hotel, this exact location actually.Review fromJoseph A

I cannot believe Marriott, a company with such a big, trusted name, turned out to be such a big scam! We are in utter disbelief that they’d take advantage of us in such a dishonest manner! We still have about $72,800 left to pay and this is after already paying them more than $55,000. With all the money spent and all the money still owed, we are relegated to taking vacations off-season and to low-demand destinations. Our last upgrade, we complained about the cost versus the benefit and the salespeople promised with this upgrade, we will be able to access high demand locations year-round and it will qualify us for their rental program. This is the only reason we upgraded, and we still haven’t had a quality vacation and you guessed it, NO RENTAL INCOME.Marriott Vacations Worldwide

I'm sorry to hear of the experience that Mr. ***** is having with his ownership. Mr. ***** owns 2-Destination Points contracts with us, the first purchase was made in March of 2018 and the second in July of 2022. Destination Points do allow owners a more flexible booking options which includes 80+ resorts. Also, as an Executive owner, Mr. ***** also has the ability to book 13-months in advance.Review fromGary and Nancy B

Marriott is NO LONGER A TRUSTED NAME! We’re both retired, and on a fixed income. They sold us a timeshare and said it was a real estate investment, but when you own a property, you can refinance it, and build equity over time. We found out that that wasn't true with the Marriott contract. In just under 2 years of being ‘owners’ we’ve only been able to use our timeshare 1 time! Our contract is 92 PAGES LONG, and it took less than 1 hour to go through it! Their Loan Officer wouldn’t ever give us a straight answer, it’s ALWAYS VAGUE, but that’s how they hook you into a perpetual contract. I cannot believe how corrupt Marriott is for targeting the elderly! I WOULD NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, DON’T EVEN ENTERTAIN THE IDEA OF GOING TO ONE OF THEIR MEETINGS! I PROMISE YOU WILL REGRET IT!Marriott Vacations Worldwide

I apologize about Mr. and Mrs. ******* concerns. At the points of sale, owners must acknowledge and sign that they are not purchasing for investment, that availability is not guaranteed, and they are aware of the 10-day recission period. Owners have 10-days to review the purchase documents and exercise their right to cancel if they are not satisfied with what they purchased.
