I set an appointment for a routine cleaning for October 6, 2022 at 3PM at the Coast Dental location in **************, **. On Sept 22 I received a text that my appointment was confirmed for October 6, 2022 at 3PM. On Monday October 3 I received a text that my appointment was for October 5 at 3PM. When I tried to call the office to see what was going on I never got someone on the phone but I didn't have time to wait so I moved on with what I had to do. On Wednesday October 5 I received a text that I cancelled my appointment which I never did. On Thursday October 6, the day I originally scheduled my appointment, they told me that my appointment was for Wednesday. Even after I showed them my texts with the date confirming my appointment they refused to accept any responsibility and continued to tell me that I missed my appointment and there was a no show fee. I fell I shouldn't have to pay because they changed my appointment without my knowledge and now I am forced to pay for their mistake.Business Response

My husband went into Coast Dental for a routine visit, he needed work done and opted to use the 0% interest for a portion of bill with Care Credit. He applied online, it was approved. He had the work performed and we received bills from Care Credit that we started to pay. A couple months later we receive a notice from Coast Dental for an overdue bill. It's for the amount that was financed, $600, for which we have been making payments to Care Credit for. We call Coast Dental, and they say they cannot help us and to call Care Credit. We call Care Credit they say they can't do anything, they paid Coast Dental and it's out of their hands. This song and dance continues for another month. My husband goes into the Coast Dental office and they said they'll take a look and get back to him, and of course we never hear from them. We continue to pay Care Credit and receive another notice from Coast Dental.I go into the office and get the same story, there's nothing they can do, there is no record of the payment and I need to call Care Credit. *********** Credit from the parking lot and they are telling me there is nothing they can do I have to call Coast Dental, so I walk into the office and put Care Credit on speakerphone. As it turns out, Care Credit applied the $600 payment to the wrong Coast Dental. They won't tell us which Coast Dental, just the wrong one. We now start working on a refund from Care Credit. The person at Coast Dental understands the issue, understands this is not our fault, and says she will "make a note in the file" that we are working this out. After four phone calls to Care Credit, they finally credit our account as of 9/29/2022. In the mean time we receive a collection notice from COAST DENTAL. I attempt to go to our local office they are closed with a sign saying please go to our ******************** office. I drive down to that office at 3:45pm and it is closed and nobody answers either number. Somebody needs to contact us to straighten this out.Business Response

Please accept this as Coast's response to **************** complaint. Per your statement "Care Credit, they finally credit our account as of 9/29/2022". Since we did not receive payment for the rendered services on 3/25/22, the balance is still unresolved. To remove the account from collection status, we would need a letter from Care Credit stating that the original payment was misapplied. You can make the payment directly to Coast dental online or by visiting our ******************** office. Our *************** office is currently closed due hurricane *** and is working out of ******************** at ************************************************************************************************. At the time of my initial visit, the dentist took xrays and did charting. At that time a treatment plan was given which included a deep cleaning which I thought was odd since it had only been a year since my last one. I did not have any discomfort or bleeding at the time. I paid my copay at the time. My husband also had an initial visit and the dentist recommended an adjustment on his partials, stating there would be not charge. While adjusting one he broke it and it had to be sent out for repair. I began to get denial letters from my insurance. I called Humana and found out the office was double billing my insurance in addition to billing for "unspecified preventative procedure". In addition, nothing was submitted for preapproval. We paid our copay with each visit. On 7 occasions I have attempted to contact corporate and the local office with no results. I even opened a compaint file with Coast Corporate with promises of return calls within 48 hours with no results.Business Response

Please accept this as Coast's response to ******************* complaint. The claim that was not correctly paid by your insurance has been appealed and we are waiting for an update from your insurance, confirmed the appeal been received but not under review yet. I did also adjust charges for items that are inclusive to the treatment. The current account balance for *************** is $7.00 with a pending claim. Reviewing ****************** account, the office did process an adjustment of $83.80 which was a charge for the adjustments on the upper denture. The account balance is now $0.00 for **************. I went to Coast Dental in *********** ******* on *************. on June 2 to get a crown put on my tooth, which was around $600. About 2 weeks after that I began to feel discomfort. I made an appointment and went in. At this time they shaved some of the crown they put on down. Well about 2-3 weeks after that, I felt discomfort again. They gave me an appointment a month and a half out. The next week my tooth begins to start aching uncontrollably. I call to see if I can get an emergency appointment. I leave my name, number and what the issue is and they told me someone will call me within 24 hours. No call. Within 2 days my gums became inflamed. I call back and ask again about an emergency appointment and tell them the new issue and I'm scared that I may have a gum infection, that I called a few days ago and nobody called me back. I went up there the next week in person, they told me that the dentist wasn't at the office today, they took another message and said someone will call you. Keep in mind I have an appointment on Sept 29 @ 8:30 am. Went back and forth with them all the way up to my appointment. Go to my appointment that morning check in at 8:13 am. The entire staff was in the back when I arrived. Not in view of me and the other lady that was there. But you could hear them from the back talking about their personal business. Then they came to the front, still haven't acknowledged me yet, but they're standing around talking about crabs and crab legs, the hurricane that just hit ******* even pulled it up on the computer. So I called the office from inside the lobby..... They didn't even answer the phone, just continued with their conversation. So 8:32 I finally get called to the window, for them to tell me they cancelled my appointment and they tied to call me. I told them I've been waiting almost 2 months for this appointment and let them know what was going on with my mouth again. Pointed to a telemed dentist I could get meds from and that they could not help me.Business Response

The absolute worst dental experience ever! I scheduled an EMERGENCY appointment for a broken tooth at the beginning of September that I had to wait a month to be seen for. Then when I arrive to the appointment all they do is xrays, prescribe an antibiotic, & tell me they can't do anything until I have a cleaning done. All the antibiotics did was make the pain worse to where I can't hardly open my mouth, so I went back & told them to just pull the broken tooth because it was causing me too much pain. Once again they did nothing but send me off with a referral for an oral surgeon. On top of all this they tried to stick me with a bill for $3600 saying my insurance wouldn't cover it. Upon talking to my insurance company they informed me that they cover all the work I would need done.Business Response

Coast Dental required payment upfront for 2 procedures (a root canal and a crown) for which we paid the entire agreed upon price of $1583.00. The first procedure $705.00 was billed correctly to the insurance company who paid us back because we have a reimbursable plan. After the second procedure, Coast Dental incorrectly charged the insurance company $1409.00 and were paid $1095.00 by the insurance company which represents the balance of our annual reimbursable amount. We now have a large credit balance and after using it to pay for several office visits, we began requesting a refund in June. The office we use referred us to the main office in *****. When we call ************, regardless of the option we choose, we either get a mailbox that is full, get hung up on, or get the call center who supposedly leaves a message for a return call. No call ever comes. It's over 3 months since we began asking for this refund and many calls have been made to Coast Dental, but to no avail. We have involved the insurance company who paid Coast Dental, *****, who attempted to call on our behalf and got the same runaround that we've been getting. On 9/22/22 ******, the ****************** manager for Coast Dental, told us that we would be reimbursed the first week of October. Today, 10/06/22 we called and were again told the refund was in process. We called Aetna again and the rep we spoke to initiated an internal grievance after getting nowhere with Coast Dental. Please assist us in getting our money back.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:A check was received from Coast Dental, however, it was not for the entire amount of our credit balance.
I have tried numerous times to contact the office where the services were performed to discuss the balance discrepancy, however no one answers and the voicemail box is full and will not allow for any new messages. The remaining balance due is $73.50. In order to put this to rest, please have a check issued immediately. Thank you.

I am rejecting this response because:I went personally to get an account statement instead of going through BBB to move things along faster.
The statement shows a debit to my account of $220.00 on 11/15/22 with a note that it was an insurance overpayment.
That is the entire point. They over billed and were over paid. Unless that money is being reimbursed to Aetna, it is due to me.
The office cannot just arbitrarily keep an overpayment.

I am rejecting this response because: We have been in touch with you through our insurance company for many months now. We call Aetna who calls your office. Went to coast dental on gladiolus ct. ************* to have a very painful tooth extracted got the dentist thru my insurance #1 molar to be exact. The next thing I know I get a girl secretary selling me on this plug for my extraction ****** im in pain I want it out I say ok even tho I asked her if I need it she tells me im really gonna need it or want it so i sign. I get the procedure done dentist is pulling and pulling and pulling some more till he gets the molar out. puts plug in everything is great that is un till numbness wears off later that night. started really hurting, I got no sleep I call in the next morning to get a pain prescription secretary says ******** to take extra strength Tylenol like I didn't take some already but found no relief, and I'm calling for something to really help me. i got denied no pain meds for an infected molar extraction. this is day 2 after the appointment I'm still hurting pretty bad and now i wouldn't go back there if you paid me. Right on their website which i found out after the fact they have a big advertisement NEED A PAIN SCRIPT CALL COAST DENTAL WE WILL HELP. I CAN'T TELL!!!! So false advertising on top of bad service and follow-up. id like to know why he wouldn't write me for two or three days' worth of pain meds after extraction like that. didn't he take the Hippocratic oath like most Drs??? Bad business ill be going to a different dentist for follow-up.Business Response
