I purchased auto insurance from State Farm in 07/26/2022. A few days later I received a letter stating that I lied on my application regarding a ticket and that the policy would be canceled which didn’t make any sense because I gave my ** * *** *** *, as well as stated I had a ticket from 2 1/2 years ago. I called representative, Alexus, and she told me I would receive my refund of $141.58 after notifying another department. I had to call back to request the refund and was told it would be processed on 08/22/2022. I left a review stating my uneasiness and the shady practice of them taking their time to refund my money and the owner responded as if they were working on refunding my money to save face. I have not received any correspondence, a phone call not a text regarding my refund.

I received a call from ****** ******* on Sept., 1, trying to explain why I would not be receiving a refund because the date ran past 08/02/2022.  That is unacceptable.  I did not ask to be covered for August.  They intentionally withheld my payment.  I purchased the the auto insurance on 07/26/2022.  I received the letter before August stating I lied on my application and that it would be canceled.  When I spoke with ******* she stated she made an error.  I don’t know what that error was because as I said before, I provided the necessary information such as vin # and DL #, and that I had a speeding ticket from 2019.  I requested a refund. My focus was getting my money back and to look elsewhere immediately.  She said she would contact the department to have my refund issued when I called her back after getting auto insurance elsewhere and that it would not be processed until 08/22/2022.

As you can see on the review page, Yvonne Kendall responded to my displeasure of waiting so long and apologized saying they would be working on getting it out to me.  When I put in the complaint with the BBB, Yvonne called me and said I should have received it by the 24th and that she would call me back after speaking with the department that issues the check.   Then she came with a made up reason for why I wasn’t getting a refund.

To me it looks like they intentionally held my money to say I was covered for August when that was not what I asked for.

I am not satisfied with any response from ***** **** other than that they will release my refund in full as soon as possible.

I was called my my State Farm agent on 8/19/2022 and informed that State Farm has decided to drop me and my partner as clients due to us being “too risky to insure”. She stated that the corporate team cited 3 claims within 3 years as being the reason for dropping us, though 2 of the 3 claims resulted after being involved in hit and run/uninsured accidents. 1 of those 2 accidents occurred in April of 2022 and was just sent to subrogation in July 2022, but still counts against us. We were told that essentially in the eyes of State Farm underwriters that we appeared to just be in the wrong place at that wrong time. She said that the underwriters were only dropping our auto policies and that our homeowners and life insurance policies would remain secure….but why would we keep those policies with a company that couldn’t care less about its customers?!
Even the agent was unsure why the corporate office chose to drop us, considering we had zero fault in 2 of the 3 reviewed claims. Even more, this is the same company/underwriters that took over 8 weeks to process a new vehicle that we vehicle we had purchased and added to our policy because they were “backlogged”. State Farm is quick to drop you but drag their feet with getting any work for loyal customers done.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 09/13/2022

I am rejecting this response because:

There was no opportunity to discuss the issue with State Farm via telephone or email. The letter stated that “regardless of claim type, fault, or history all claims are reviewed as equal.”: AKA if you are hit by an uninsured driver, if you are involved in a hit-and-run, and if you have a blow out and request roadside assistance to change a tire, it serves as high loss history and grounds to be dropped. What is the point of having insurance when they can cancel you at any moment without discussion for being in the wrong place at the wrong time?

April 13th my car was in an accident and statefarm gave me a shop to take my car too., After The car been at shop over a month, I finally get my car back and their
damages inside and on my vehicle., the shop took my exhaust pipes out of my car without my consent, they changed a tire of mine and put an old and different brand name tire on my car, I had scratches all over my car, they broke my ceiling light clip inside, my interior designs wiring inside was ripped, the inside of my car had sand in the back seat, they use cheap marker paint on my car, the gps/radio system wasn’t working, my oil light was on and before my car was hit I had an oil change a week prior, the shop lefted junk in my trunk, My wheel alignment was bent due to the accident as well and I called Statefarm the same day and told them all this and they told me to take my car and everything will be taken care of. I
took my car to another dealership and they told me things wasn’t fixed but statefarm claim it was. Statefarm is basically not helping me fix the damages done to my car that happen while at that shop.,I opened a claim with statefarm and they immediately closed it.

I made a claim to have my car repaired with State Farm in June 16th after I was involved in an accident which was not my fault. The car had to have mechanical repairs which took over a month and the earliest I could bring it into the body shop was July 18th. I told State Farm numerous times that I was moving out of state on August 26th and needed my car back before that date. It took their claims department 4 weeks to approve the supplements to my claim and the body shop was not able to start working on the car until 8/8. The auto body shop finished repairs and sent out the final supplement request on 8/17. Now State Farm refuses to send anyone out to finalize the repair until 8/25. I called numerous times and was told there was nothing that could be done for me. So I will have to move out of state without my car and fly back to Florida to get my car once they finally approve everything. I am very disappointed with State Farm that they could not help me get my car back before I move. Especially considering the fact that the car is done and just sitting there waiting.

On 6/27/2022 my daughter (who just came home from deployment in Quatar for United States Air Force) was involved in an incident where another vehicle struck her car while parked in Fort Worth. We called the police and the other vehicle that hit her provided all infor. for his insurance company and my daughter's car was towed by the police. I was advised by SF to wait until the other insurance company reached out to me & after not hearing anything SF opened a claim for us (***********) after they told me the other person did not have active insurance. I have called SF numerous times after being told one lie after another. I kept asking why my deductible has not changed (uninsured motorist coverage) and was told that I needed the incident # from the police which was provided. On 8/19/22 I called SF because my car repairs are now comp. and they advised me they cant add uninsured motorist due to other person having active ins. This was not verified until TODAY!!! (8/19/22). No one from SF called to verify coverage with the other person and said I have to pay the $500 deductible and if I keep the rental until this is resolved I have to now pay for rental. I called the OIC and was advised the person filed a claim on 7/27 (*******) with adjuster ******* ****** and no one from SF called and they want me to pay $500 until they correct this. I am livid as each time I call and trusting that I am getting correct information and I am not. Why did I have to call the OIC today and why didn't SF do this weeks ago and filed the claim through them so I may not even have to pay anything?? I am now going to look for another insurance company and will put this on social media, and all other avenues I can. Had I not questioned any of this SF would never have called to verify if the other person had insurance. I need HELP on this matter as I don't have money to pay for additional days on rental or $500 for something that my Ins. company dropped the ball on. Is this we treat VETERANS!!!!!

On 8/19/2022 received a letter from State Farm that they will not be renewing my auto insurance policy due to not providing requested information regarding an individual.

      Back history:

I paid under insured on my policy. I was in an automobile accident, in an individuals vehicle as a passenger. I sustained injuries and had a lawsuit for damages. The drivers insurance only covered a portion of my medical expenses, and my attorney reached out to my insurance to cover through my under insured policy.

All required information was submitted by my attorney that was requested by my insurance company regarding the accident.

Several months later, my insurance company reaches out to the driver and requested he provide them his drivers license information to add him to my policy. ( We have the same last name and happen to also be in a relationship now) I explained that we are not married, he has his own insurance, and does not drive my vehicle. The agent ****, said the underwriters are saying since he is a high risk driver due to the accident and he lives in my household, he has to be put on my policy or they will not renew it. Again, I explained that my adult son lives in my home and is not required to be on my policy, that they only want him on it to raise my rates to retaliate due to having to pay out on my under insured policy. **** stated she would let the underwriter know that we are not married and that I am correct, he does not have to be added to my policy.

      Reason for complaint:
Today, roughly a month after discussing the issue with an Agent and paying my premium, I receive a letter that my insurance will not be renewed and will cancel in 3 months.

Complaint is that after being a client for several years, and paying for a policy-the company State Farm is retaliating against me for having to payout on a policy I held for no fault of mine.

I rely on my vehicle and must have insurance for work. this is not only unfair, but unethical treatment on their part.

I was a loyal State Farm customer involved in a non at fault accident on 6/19/2022. The driver who hit me was uninsured and my car was deemed a total loss on 8/5/2022. This process was a nightmare as I did not have a designated claims person since it was an uninsured motorist claim. However, my grievance is regarding actions taken afterwards. I bought a new vehicle 8/6/2022 and received a replacement policy (received an email with policy number and insurance card) for the new car. I did not make a payment on the new policy as there was a credit from the previous policy. I called my agents office Monday 8/8/2022 to ensure the new policy was active since the changes were made on a Saturday. I was told “you’re all set it just takes a few days to crossover.” On Tuesday 8/16/2022 I check the online portal and there are no current policies. I immediately call my agent who is unaware but confirms there is no policy. I gave him the new policy number and forwarded the email with updated insurance card. My agent was unable to fix the issue immediately and he said he would call me back. At this point I shop for new insurance as I’m not sure if I’m truly insured and I could no longer trust State Farm. While shopping for new insurance I discovered that State Farm changed my policy cancellation date to 6/20/2022 for the total loss vehicle. The date was 8/16/2022 so it looks as if I have been uninsured for more than 30 days. I ended up paying an outrageous premium with another company because I need car insurance; however, State Farm’s mistakes has cost me a lot of money. There has been no accountability m, just a bunch of that’s weird, not sure how that happened, and the changes was done after hours. Also, I still have yet to receive the refund from my previous policy.

I sold my house on 6/30/2022. I canceled my mortgage insurance premium on 7/8/2022 (this was predated). I have yet to receive my refund. State Farm says that they sent this refund to PNC bank since they are the party that paid my escrow (with my money). PNC says that they have received nothing from PNC. State Farm will not issue the refund directly to me after I advised them that PNC requested that they do so since my mortgage account is closed. This is totally unacceptable that State Farm will not release my funds to me. I should not have to battle between PNC Bank and State Farm to gain access to funds rightfully due to me. This is a complete lack of service to paying customers. This has nothing to do with my direct agency. They are not responsible for sending the check to me. I have been having discussions since July about receiving my refund but have had no success. This is frustrating and someone needs to issue this to me!

However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.

BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.

As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
