I posted my resume on CareerBuilder.com and selected the option that prevented recruiters from seeing the resume. ( I only wanted it there to quick add if I wanted to apply for a position posted.) Within a week, my resume had been given to recruiters and I am recieving between 5 and THIRTY phone calls a day. Each call is accompanied by a text and an email. Almost every company is not US based (appear to be in *****?), jobs are not anything related to my resume information besides my general field. The phone numbers the recruiters are calling from sometimes show up as various US numbers, personal phone numbers, or even other businesses. Recruiters claim to be with a company, but one told me he was calling me for the compant but independently, and he could remove me from HIS call list, but its not connected to the company. This is harassment I didnt agree to, and didnt consent to resume (with my personal info on it) essentially being made public.Business Response

Hello ***,
We have verified that your job seeker account for ****************** was created on 3/2/2024 and confirmed the profile is set to private now, however, our back office system shows resume events (activity) as recent as March 19th. Note, your rerume profile seems to have been made private on that date.
Employers can download profile information up until that point, which means employers likely have local copies of your resume.
See attached screenshot for reference of your profile setting.
If your information was retrieved by an employer and saved locally while your profile was active (public), we are?not?able to delete that information from their systems. You will need to contact these companies directly with your request to be removed from their systems and to stop contacting you.

I am rejecting this response because:There was not transparency upon opening a profile that my resume would be shared with recruiters, nor that the option was available tp de-select this. I went "private" with my prifule after having to ****** search why these calls were happening and how to make them stop. I only found the opt out instructions via a ****** search from instructions from an oitside site. It should be an opt in, not an opt out, to have your personal information shared with fly-by-night agencies worldwide and be subhected to harassment from recruiters

Hello ***,
There is no option to 'deselect' the terms because the terms state that users accept the linked Terms & Conditions upon account creation. Our logs show that your profile was moved to private on March 19th which aligns with employer resume view activity ending on March 19th.

I had a zoom meeting with a salesman from CareerBuilder. During the sales pitch he showed me all the candidates for hire in my area, there where over 300 candidates looking for positions on my industry. Once I signed up and started utilizing there4 platform I was finding that there was lest than 3 people looking for jobs in my industry and there where not even qualified individuals. When I called there Senior account Executive ****, he agreed with me and said they would cancel my account and refund me. After weeks of emails back and forth about getting my account canceled they where still billing me. I was informed I would be refunded for that as it was a process that takes time to cancel the contract. Final I got my cancelation email from **** and he said everything was canceled. 1 weeks after the cancelation email I got billed again. I also got a email from CareerBuilder that they changed the email address related to my account. Not sure why they would change my email address for a canceled account. And of course I cannot get anyone on the phone to help me with this issue.Business Response

Starting in March 2024, I created an account on ********************** to bolster my job seeking activities. I uploaded my personal resume (containing personal information such as name, street address, phone number, email, and work history) and used the service to search and apply for jobs. I did "enable" the option to have my account be "public", which, per the company's site, would allow potential employers to contact me using the CareerBuilder platform, with my personal information remaining secure.I immediately started receiving unsolicited communications at my personal email and phone number (via voice calls, SMS and WhatsApp messages), indicating that my information was NOT secure and was, in fact, available to anyone with an account on their platform. Most of these messages referenced CareerBuilder specifically, so I reasonably concluded this contact was initiated directly due to my information being accessed via their platform. On April 4, 2024, I initiated a request for deletion of all personal information via their specified portal after disabling the "public" option on my account, and anonymizing my data to the best of my ability; currently, I can no longer login to my account. However, on the BBB page for the company in question, similar stories are posted that mimic my experience, and I am very concerned my personal information is compromised despite efforts to remove such from their possession. On April 5, 2024, I contacted the company via telephone, but was referred (via automated message) to email their customer service team. I have emailed them requesting further deletion of my information and requesting information related to where I may have consented to the disclosure of my personal contact information. This company obfuscates the true nature of their information security policies and I would like that advertised to potential customers as such. I would like confirmation that my information has been deleted from their possession as well.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because there seems to be no mechanism to advertise and/or limit the information shared with "employers" (legitimate or otherwise) upon sharing a resume. I am still receiving Spam messages that continue to this day. There seems to be no mechanism to report bad actors outside of reporting a specific job listing, nor any punitive actions taken against such. Any and all unsolicited communication I receive are from unknown and/or vendors.CareerBuilder is only interested in harvesting user data, as it appears to people like me. Their BBB information page confirms such. CB can and should do better, but they have no incentive to do so.
I am keenly aware of limitation to any actions that can be taken by myself or anyone in my situation against this entity; this doesn't mean I am satisfied.

I have an ongoing issue with Career Builder, which is described below.Despite me repeatedly reaching out to Career Builder and requesting for them to remove my contact information off their platform, they seem to either refuse to do it or are incapable of doing so. I have had numerous email exchanges with their Legal and Executive Team. Their executive team even confirmed to me in writing on multiple occasions that my contact information was removed from their platform in 2022 and 2023. However, they are once again posting my contact information on their website AGAINST MY WILL.Within the last 2 weeks, I started receiving communication from all sorts of primarily foreign staffing firms that were allegedly interested in "hiring me". The communication came through via email and phone calls. Mind you, I am not looking for any jobs and have not been in the job market for quite a long time. When I pressured VOIP carriers used by said "recruiters" and my phone carrier to investigate the source of such calls, I was informed that my information was obtained on CareerBuilder. I find it completely unacceptable, as it has been an issue with Career Builder for years now. It also appears to be a known issue and a trend with Career Builder, if you research them online. It is really unbearable, because I am receiving a ton of unwanted communication from foreign "staffing firms" now.Business Response

Dmitry,
Thank you for sending over the email information. Two of the companies referenced are not CB clients and the third is no longer a client. Please follow up directly with the companies contacting you since we deleted your information one year ago. Please note that we are only able to delete information from our system. We are unable to delete your information from any 3rd party systems or employers. They would need to delete your information as it would no longer be within our platform, and they have a local record. This includes your information if you applied Careebuilder.com site or through an external application. If your profile was set to public upon registering (this means your Resume was public in the Resume Database) this would include employers that previously viewed your information. Please let these entities that you do not wish to be contacted and that you want your personal information purged from their databases.
It is not uncommon for third parties to attempt to cloak themselves with legitimacy by falsely claiming that they acquired an individuals email address and/or other information from CareerBuilder when the sender in fact acquired the information in some other manner. CareerBuilders email addresses are also sometimes spoofed by scammers to make fraudulent emails appear legitimate. CareerBuilder takes the issue of fraudulent activity very seriously and has implemented several measures to help protect our job seekers and corporate clients. In particular, we have dedicated significant resources to protect our customers from fraud by educating them about common scams found on the internet. I have employer account with ********************** for the last 2 months we have been noticing they were recycling old resumes. Meaning they are making appear people are posting their resumes currently. But we started noticing that when we would pull these resumes some of them were as old as 6 years old. So then we started calling some of these applicants who confirmed they had not posted their resume in several years. I even went in and changed my search criteria to ensure that I was not possibly not putting date in that was older than 30 days. But the issue continued. I tried to file complaint 3 times via phone they kept disconnecting me. Their agents can barely speak english and are really difficult to understand. Which was frustrating on both sides. I tried to file complaints on line and it would not accept my email address which ends in .biz Two agents from careerbuilder both admited on the recorded line that they were aware of the problem and they were working on it. I felt that since it had been on going issue and is costing me more time and money and work on resumes that were not current that they should either refund the last two months or credit me the last two months towards future bill. I am locked in to a contract with them until June. I asked if I could get out of contract since they are not providing the service I am paying for and they said no. I want them to fix the resume issue forward and to reimburse me either thru payment of my billing account for the last two months they have been having this issue. They are trying to now make us basically do the research for them hoping we will just go away. I feel they know they have an issue they have admitted they know and they should do the right thing and make it right.Business Response

Good Afternoon *****,
I apologize for the issue that you have been experiencing. I have looked into your complaint and have found that you currently have a ticket open with our ****** Services team. This ticket is also in relation to a support request noting the error that you have pointed out. Communications with these teams, as they work on investigating the issue, have given me some possibilities for why you would obtain results:
- Saved Searches (it appears that there is a save search active for the last 3 months)
- The use of a Filter (it appears that the searches are not being filtered by last modified. Doing this would bring up resumes that were most recently modified/updated)
- Activity: Just wanted to point out that Activity indicates the candidate was on our site at a certain time and not equal to a candidates last resume
Again, it is my understanding that you are already working with **** in ****** Support and there is a ticket open investigating this with the proper team who is currently working on the issue.

Thank you for your feedback provided via the Better Business Bureau.
I can confirm that there is no longer any account active under the email address that you provided. Did you perhaps register under another email address for an account?
At times it also happens that a company may represent themselves as a customer of ********************** while they are in no way affiliated. They do this because we have millions of users and attempt to use the brand to legitimize their contacts. Do you have any examples of emails received from via CareerBuilder, could you share these via *******************************?
Unfortunately, if you applied off of the Careerbuilder.com site or through an external application (without creating an account) on the client side, your information is accessible to those employers. We are unable to delete any records on employer's systems. If you wish to stop receiving communication from companies stating they found your details on CareerBuilder, you will need to notify these company directly of this so they can address the removal of your details within their systems.
Kindest Regards,

I am rejecting this response because: that is not the email used to contact me and why would i create two accounts for a website that is supposed to help me find a career? I have tried to call you guys to delete my account and someone said that i can do it off the career builder account. I mean this is really annoying that people are contacting me at all hours! i have to lie and say that i am someone else or have to say that they have the wrong number. You cannot say that people might be using your company name or whatever. THEY ARE TAKING AWAY FROM IMPORTANT CALLS THAT I NEED TO ANSWER AND SPAMMING MY INBOX! I have attached an example.excuse my profanity because i am sick of this.
Sincerely,
Soudou BBusiness Response

Good Day Soudou,
The email and information you provided to the BBB is the same information that comes across to us and that is the information/email that we use to pull you up in the system. Please provide me with the email that you used when creating your CareerBuilder account so that I may check the system and see the status on your account and its deletion.
Thank you,

Good Day,
Thank you for providing the updated email address. I have located the account and have put in a request to have it deleted. Account deletion requests are typically done online via the website as that is the quickest way. However, I have asked that a RUSH be placed on your request.

Good Day,
I would like to apologize for your experience being spammed by recruiters.
I have had a look in our system and I can indeed see that there is no longer any account active on ********************** under the email address you have provided as this has been deleted as per your request. Upon deletion of your account your resume is no longer searchable on the database.
Unfortunately, if you have applied on another platform linked from CareerBuilder or your information has been retrieved by an employer and saved locally while your profile was active we are?not?able to delete that information from their systems. You will need to contact these companies directly with your request to be removed from their systems and to stop contacting you.
Kindest regards,
The CareerBuilder Team
