On January 23rd I placed an online pick up order at Jewel in *************, ** Order #*********. The items included were food and drinks. Nothing that would require more than an EBT payment. My total was $53.95, it would ONLY accept $53.94 from *** and charged my **** $0.01 as sales tax. This is not the first or even the second time that I have encountered this issue with Jewel. Ive contacted their ************************ explained the issue, and have been refunded my $0.01, with them saying they will speak to someone and contact me, but that has not happened and the charging of tax continues to happen. Yesterday after placing my order I left a voicemail on their online customer service number and received a call back. He looked through my account, after telling me that it was because of substitutions; which I did not receive, and as we read together the charge was sales tax, he said the same thing about having to speak with someone to figure this out. I know how many times Ive been charged $0.01 while using EBT without substituting items, or even receiving substitutions that are the exact same price. I have had to ask for my refund each time, which shows that it really is sales tax. *** does not get charged state or local taxes. So far this year its happened twice in the ************* store. Last year it was at the ************, Il location. It does not occur on every order, as I often shop online for groceries. But the fact that its happened already twice this year, 2025, it seems that Jewel/********** needs to figure this out sooner rather than later. Imagine how many $0.01 they have collected and others havent said anything. Ive included photos from both issues this year.Initial Complaint

I purchased 3 packs of diapers. 2 larger boxes and 1 small bag. I normally buy Huggies or pampers but decided to try the jewel brand diapers. They were terrible compared to name brand, I was fine with calling it a loss on my end.Then jewel emailed me asking me to review the product. I gave it an honest 1 star and mentioned how poor of diapers they are, etc. I wrote my review for future customers, not expecting anything from **********************. I was pleasantly surprised when jewel emailed me shortly after and stated I would get a refund of $29.41 within 5-7 business days. (See email). Immediately I saw a refund of just over $6 dollars and assumed they must have decided to refund the small bag of diapers as well. I waited 5 days for the rest of the money and never saw it. I emailed again asking and was told 5-7 days. After waiting a week almost I emailed again and got a message saying that they are denying the refund. (See email). This I found so upsetting because I had never even asked for a refund- they emailed me saying they would refund me!I am filing this complaint because it is NOT ok to tell a customer they will get a refund for a certain amount and then go back on your word. I have spent a lot of money at jewel over the years and will no longer shop there because of this dishonest practice. I would have preferred never having received an email at all to my review. On 1//6/2025 I went to my local Jewel-Osco that I regularly shop at, and spend thousands of dollars at every year. On 1/6/2025 I went to Jewel-Osco to purchase bread and a thermometer and found one at the flu season end cap which had a couple of units of the thermometer on the shelf for *****. I went to self check out and the thermometer rang up *****. I caught the attention of the self checkout cashier and informed them it was *****. The cashier communicated with someone for a price check, and I informed the cashier I would go take a picture of the price tag and the other unit on the shelf. After taking the picture and returning to self checkout to show the cashier, I was informed the manager would meet me in aisle 14. I went to aisle 14 and as I approached the aisle a lady was waiting there, and I asked If I was meeting her? The lady responded yes, its ***** and pointed to the shelf. I asked her to follow me to the end cap and I showed her the price tag, the other thermometer unit on the shelf for sale and the price tag. She replied its ***** thats wrong its on the wrong shelf. She was very aggressive in her tone and voice was sharp and *****. I asked her to allow me to explain why I assumed the price was ***** and showed her the evidence of such. The lady (********) only allowed to say my peace after I asked her to please let me speak as her was very aggressive as I stated. I was confused as to why she mad with me? Im shopping and I assumed the price was reflected on the label of where I found it. As to why she was acting upset, and speaking as if I was trying to get away with paying the labeled price of *****. After she allowed me to explain that Im a customer just like she is a customer and I was going with the price it was labeled on the shelf she agreed it was reasonable to think it was ***** however ******** immediately got very rude and said Im not going to give it to you for *****. ******** grabbed the thermometer of the shelf and walked away.Initial Complaint

11/14/2024. Ordered groceries. awaiting delivery and tracking it on site. Saw driver getting close and looking out window of my home. No car stopped in front of my home. Saw DELIVERED note on Jewel site. No car or groceries present. Looked down to end of my block and saw car with brake lights pulling away from corner of my street. Tracking site showed a picture of where my groceries were delivered. This photo was NOT my home. My home is third house from the corner on opposite end o street. Put coat on (November) and walked to house pictured on Jewel site. No groceries on porch. Texted to chat line on Jewel app and made report. Advised 7-10 days till return of 140.28$ returned. I went to Jewel Osco on 12/07/24 to purchase a container of chlorine bleach. At the check-out stand, I discovered that the container cap and seal had been tampered with. As a result when handling the container, bleach splashed/spilled and covered my hands/body and damaged my clothes. The store was negligent in having damaged/tampered toxic bottle of product open. I did not purchase the damaged bleach container. I filed a complaint at the store, which redirected me to their insurance, ************. The insurer denied my claim to recover losses of my damaged clothing and impact of skin contact with bleach. The file number is File Number: L2005936-0001. The insurer claimed that the product was third-party and refused to take responsibility for negligence. This is a health hazard and could have resulted in much more life-threatening injuries.Initial Complaint

Today I entered the self checkout and noticed 2 employee cashiers that watch over self checkout talking totally ignoring customers. One was on her knee by a trash can. I walked up to the self checkout register next to her and started scanning my items. She yelled YOU CANT USE THIS!!!!! Totally appalle, embarrassed and shocked by her chose of words, tone and delivery I said excuse me? She yelled again DONT YOU SEE ME USING THIS and jumped off the floor with singles on her hand. I said no the register was available for use. She became extremely combative. Yelling that I AM STANDING IN FRONT OF THE REGISTER. It would be impossible for her to be standing in front of the register if I walked up to the register and started scanning my items. She is a total liar. I looked at the other tall cashier which stood silent with a smirk on her face. I then asked the lady for her name and she yelled ******. I asked if she was the store manager and she said NO! I walked over to a different register where another customer saw that I was shaking up and she tried consoling me saying that she heard the entire thing and apologized for her rude aggressive behavior. ****** does not need to work in customer service especially being a manager. Her behavior was completely unacceptable. The cashiers that watches self checkout are the most unprofessional people. They never smile say hello or thank you for your business. With ****** being a manager and setting the tone for the others I see why.Initial Complaint

I won a free grocery giveaway at jewel from stimilt apple farms. I got sick from eating there food. Ive never got as sixk before from even eating bad food. I suspect the *** who handled the food to have had a virus. The cost in treatment is outweighing the cost of the groceries. I would like to be reinbersed the $150 to cover the cost of medical treatment, and for them to discontinue the claim of there service.Initial Complaint

Sadly, it seems as though there is a lack of competent employees in the ************* on ******************************************************** as well as poor pharmacy procedures in place. Things have gotten really bad over the past year.1). They do not automatically fill prescriptions that are sent over electronically. Therefore, you have to wait a very long time once arriving to the pharmacy to receive the prescription. I have started calling ahead to ask them to pull my prescriptions from the queue and put them in line to be filled. Half the time that is not done, consequently resulting in very long wait times. If a prescription is sent to the pharmacy electronically by an urgent care or especially an ER, that prescription needs to be filled and not just left sitting in the ******** one should have to wait over 2 hours to get their prescription filled.2) There have been a couple times when they did not have enough of a drug, which is fine. Those things happen. But, then telling us a date that they will have the drug in, but then they don't. 3). I keep hearing that they are short staffed or really busy. If that is an ongoing problem, it seems as though that could be remediated with additional staff. Or, it seems that maybe they shouldn't have reduced their hours of operation. The one perk of using this Pharmacy is that they were a 24-hour pharmacy.I am just really tired of dealing with the same issues over and over. I, and my family, have used this specific Pharmacy for over 49 years! And it's a shame that I'm having to move on to a new pharmacy.Initial Complaint

I contacted Jewel Osco about an issue I was having at a store in the ******** neighborhood of ******* I spoke with **** *** ****** about my issue and said she would look into it and get back to me. After a week went by I did not receive a call back so I reached out and left her another message. another week went by no response. I then reached out to her supervisor and left her a message again no response from anyone. I don't understand why I can't receive a call back or get a hold of anyone??? I guess they just like to sweep customer complaints under the rug??
